Bonny & Read’s is owned by Jamie Hawkes III from Marlton New Jersey and John Franke from Runnemede New Jersey. John moved to Florida in late 2003 and Jamie in early 2004. They purchased Toucans after changing their interest from purchasing and flipping houses to the business of owning and running a bar and grill. Bonny & Read’s were purchased July 26th 2004. We just celebrated our 10th anniversary this past July.

Bonny & Read’s is referred to by many as «The home of the Hollywood Beach locals». We serve a wide variety of American cuisine from hotdogs to Alaskan king crab. Our entire inventory is purchased from local vendors.

We take pride on our menu utilizing fresh in house seasonal creations. From hand cut fries and onion rings to homemade soups and sauces. We strive to serve our customers a great dish at a reasonable price.

Our burgers are made to order from Angus chuck.

We serve prime hand cut rib eye for our 10oz steak dinners as well as our cheese steak meat. Daily specials include such items as local fish sandwiched, gourmet burgers and home soups.

Great seafood dishes such as linguini with clam sauce, drunken clams, Mahi Mahi fish and chips and multiple salads topped your way. Our raw bar includes Atlantic Blue Point Oysters and top neck clams are always fresh and pink Gulf shrimp to round out your choices. We also offer a children’s menu so as you see, there is something here for everyone.

James is New Jersey native who moved to Florida in 2004 looking for a business opportunity. James brings a 20 + year business background in project management, network engineering and customer service to his new venture. Using this background and love for the culinary world purchased Bonny & Read’s Toucan Hideout in July of 2004. Now, Bonny & Read’s Toucan Hideout is tagged «The home of the Hollywood Beach locals».

The food was horrible and overpriced. The Mac and cheese was greasy and clumpy and had no flavor at all. The cheese sticks were microwaved. My husband’s fish was so greasy he had to sop it up with several napkins before attempting to eat it. The staff was friendly so that’s why I gave 2 stars.

Food was great, beer was cold, and the outside view is unbeatable! I would definitely say I’m a fan of the restaurant! The servers and server assistant were really friendly and super cool, the manager even swung by to make sure we were enjoying ourselves and more importantly, enjoying the food! For being a restaurant located right on the beach it was also very reasonably priced.

My son and I went to go banana-​biking but my son was hungry, I was also hungry. We looked at many places along the beach and we settled on this place. The food was pretty good but it took a little bit longer to come than we were hoping. Still this place is pretty good and I recommend it.

This bar was redone on Bar Rescue. Therefore, it looks unusually swanky and cool for Hollywood beach. However, don’t be fooled because it is probably just like any other Hollywood beach hangout… sufferable. I had Chardonnay wine in a plastic cup and could look out over the beach. There was way too much noise inside.

Disappointed is an understatement. Passed by this place because it is near my hotel and thought I’d give it a shot since their menu looks better than most.
As we were seated I noticed a group of people sitting on the deck, smoking cigarettes and drinking but the patio doors are wide open so ALL of their smoke was coming directly to our table. I mentioned it to the waitress who very simply said «they can smoke anywhere outside.» That’s fine but how about closing the doors so the rest of us aren’t forced to smell smoke while we eat?
I ordered the «fresh» shrimp basket and would have sent it back if I wasn’t in such a hurry to get out of there. The fries were cold, the shrimp was NOT fresh (very tough) and it was just all around bad. My boyfriend ordered the chicken sandwich and said it was ok.
The employees do not seem to realize they are working. Our waitress joined the group of people sitting on the deck smoking (two of them also had work uniforms on) and the kitchen help had to bring us our food. We were never offered refills, we were only checked on when she was ready to give us our bill.
Bar Rescue was obviously a huge failure with this place.

The breeze coming in from the ocean is great. The blonde bartender between 5 – 630, sucked. She was more interested in her regulars than us. 5 minutes to acknowledge out presence. Eventually we did get drinks but again completely ignored for over an hour. We were acknowledged after our empty cups were being tossed around the bar because of the breeze. At this point it is too late and we just want to GTFO… Sad

This place is great! I met up with my man there after a massage and Renee right away welcomed me and asked me if I was nice and relaxed and got me some ice cool water. We met a couple locals that were friendly as all get out as well.
We came back the next evening for some cocktails. The mojitos were on special and super fresh and tasty! Our server was so sweet and nice.
We came back once more the watch football and the owners were nice enough to put the Browns game on for us and treated us to a shot of Jäger. The server from the previous night was there again and welcoming. She remembered us :)
Would definitely recommend stopping in this awesome local spot. The food is great, cocktails delicious and all staff was amazing! Thank you so much!

Came in and right away Renee greeted me and was so happy. Love coming into a place like that. I’m from Cleveland and was gonna go to the Browns Backers bar. Yet Renee said if I come back Sunday, the boss would put the game on for me. The clams were awesome and service is top notch. I’ll be coming here for the Browns game on Sunday. Thanks Renee, now my favorite bar on the boardwalk. Also country music was on, which was a plus.
Came back for the game, they had every team on and allot of locals were there. Had a great time and people make you feel right at home. Best wings in Florida BTW. Owner, managers, staff, all great people. See you next year!

Found out about this place through the TV show «Bar Rescue». We ordered the calamari as appetizer — fresh and yummy! We then ordered the fish Mahi tacos and the Pirate Burger. OMGGG the fish tacos? AMAZING! I will say that, if it wasn’t for the appetizer, 2 tacos would’ve seemed not enough. The fish was delicious, flaky, and tasteful! The pirate burger was also delightful. I am very picky when it comes to fries, their fries passed the test. I will say though, we had the fishbowl drink — it was tasty but it seemed like pure juice without any hint of alcohol. That was my only complaint, I didn’t sing my rating because we didn’t try any other drink. The customer service was great as well, everyone very attentive and friendly! Loved it! Oh, and great location and view!!!

I don’t know about anything else at this place but the Fish N Chips is one of the best I have had! Crispy, flaky and delicious — throw some malt vinegar and tarter sauce and you got one hell of a catch for a meal. On top of that they were playing Metal in the bar (extra points from me!)

This place has a great location overlooking the beach. The bar was redone in some type of bar rescue, and it looks OK. I liked the big map, and the TVs were nice if you are coming to watch a game. Our server was very nice and attentive.
The food was not very appealing. The fish dip was the best choice-​large scoop with crackers and celery. The drunken clams were only OK. Mahi bites OK. They were out of some items-​including the mac and cheese on the kids menu.
The bathroom was filthy.

For what you get, this place is a bang for your buck! Their portions are great, and their service was on point. We grabbed lunch while in town before our fishing trip, and I’m glad we stopped by.
I wish their dining area was more open, and updated a bit.

Decided to get out of the house for dinner and stumbled on Bonny and Reads, what an incredible decision!
The girls were pleased with the chicken fingers and fries as well chicken salad sandwich. I had the Buffalo chicken philly. We enjoyed the service and the atmosphere was great.
I would most definitely recommend Bonny and Reads… ask for Chesley.

My husband and I saw this restaurant on bar rescue and I was hesitant to try the food after the show aired. I was concerned about the conditions of the kitchen and the Unilocal reviews about the poor service. However, my husband convinced me, and I was extremely pleased with the experience.
First of all, the restaurant is directly on the beach and the views are unparalleled. As soon as we were seated (which was immediately), the hostess explained both the specials and the happy hour drinks. Our server then instantly appeared and was constantly at our table and available to answer our questions and also take our order. I ordered the BBQ wings and my husband got the mahi dinner. For drinks, we both got a cream-​cycle flavored cocktail in one of the pirate coconut cups as seen on bar rescue. To my surprise, it was perfect!
We were prepared to wait after reading the prior Unilocal reviews. As such, we sat back in the brand new adirondack seating on the deck and took in the ocean views. Before we knew it, our food and cocktails had arrived (perhaps too quickly as we were enjoying the ocean… But I’m not complaining whatsoever).
This was only our first time there, but I am excited to bring my family with us for our next visit!

Not sure why this place got 3 stars. Staff is great, fast and knowledgable.
I always use a little precaution when ordering fried fish at bars like these. But Mahi Bites at Bonny and Read’s were crispy, fresh and succulent.
Fish dip had more crackers than necessary.
The drinks were refreshing. I love finding places on Hollywood Boardwalk that are not what I call «Sysco menu»…
Take a chance on these guys.

What a waste of the sponsor’s money! My friends and I went to check out the bar after the renovations but it was like putting lipstick on a pig, looks nicer but the service and drinks were terrible. I ordered a simple Capt Morgan and gingerale and it was so flat and weak, I had to ask for some limes to squeeze in to make it drinkable. Apparently the bartender’s friends were in the bar and this warranted blasting the music to ear shattering volume when their favorite song and ignoring us at the other end of the bar.
The cake topper was when one of the overly inebriated friends came by and tried to talk to us, proceeded to lick my friend’s arm and then dish me a racist «welcome to america» comment. The cake topper was she grabbed a celery stick from the garnishes for bloody Mary’s, took a bite and then put it back in the cup. Ruining my mood I tried for 30 minutes to get the bartender’s attention so we can pay and leave. I wanted to just leave and not pay my tab and I should have after seeing the prices. $ 7 for a shitty mix drink when the specialty drinks were only 25 cents more? That makes no sense at all!
Moral of the story, don’t go there. Shitty service, shitty drinks, and shitty people

John Taffer needs to Re-​Rescue this place! My wife and I sat outside on a fairly busy night. First thing I noticed was the specials were written on a board near the entrance. The server never even mentioned them, like she could care less they even had specials. We had no silverware, but she took our drink orders quickly.
Anyway the food: Lobster Mac N cheese was one of the specials, sounded good this is a dish I normally love. First the waitress never explained this was an appetizer — sized portion and to my disappointment it was just a TINY bowl! Not only that but it looked like Kraft Mac N Cheese (Not even done right), that had a few chunks of lobster that tasted old, thrown in, with some sort of salt n pepper bread crumb mix thrown on top… YUK! MY wife had the chicken fingers she said were just OK, the fries tasted old or like they were cooked in the same oil as everything else.
Service: Getting the check took WAY too long, and the service pretty much sucked from the beginning with the waitress never explaining the specials, or even mentioning them to the end when she took 20 minutes to bring the check. My food was nothing to come back for, or made me want to try anything else. Look else ware! Nice try John Taffer, but this one ended up being a fail after all!

Popped in here with friends after having seen this place on Bar Rescue. What a disappointment.
We were a party of 4 adults, eyeing an outdoor table. We asked a server if a specific table was available as the bill from the previous customer was still on the table, and it wasn’t obvious if the table was still occupied since there was still a lot of food left at the table. She said she was checking to see if she could seat us there. While she was checking, two people helped themselves to that table even though we were next to be seated. The server didn’t bat an eye, or ask them to leave or apologize to us, or anything. Not a good start.
She ended up seating us inside at a spot that was still very dirty, so we just waited for it to be cleaned up. The menu itself did look pretty good, but I think we were so turned off by the poor service at the get-​go, so we just opted for beers.
While sipping our beers, we noticed how dirty, messy, and worn the place was. The floors were completely worn, and the tables were just dirty. It’s a bar. I get it. No one expects white table cloths and a pristine environment, but I think we all expect to at least feel like dirty tables are cleaned quickly and tables, chairs, the bar, and the flooring isn’t worn out and dirty looking, especially after being featured on Bar Rescue.
It just appears the place is not well maintained. We won’t be back. There are too many other good options on Hollywood’s Broadwalk.
