Disclaimer – I’m very particular about my manicures and pedicures so much so that 99% of the time I do them myself.
I got a pedicure and the pedicurist cut my toenails uneven– some way too short and left other nails too long or cut them crooked! Looks like a blind person cut my toenails. Otherwise, she did an average job. She was fast (maybe a little too fast) but it was a busy Saturday so understandable.
The polish selection was pretty good but not impressive. They had a lot of Essie and OPI polishes, some CND Vinylux, but very few China Glaze or Color Club.
The staff was not friendly, but they were not rude either.

I love this place, it seems to be the best salon in town especially for gel manicures — just make sure you make an appointment, I’ve found that they usually set you up with a better technician when you do.

If you’re in the search for an upscale, clean, high quality, reliable nail salon Modern Nails is the place to go. I’ve been living in Hoboken for 7 years now and have tried many different nail salons in the area and Modern Nails is by far the best one. As soon you walk in you’re always happily greeted by Ken who is eager to get you helped. Although, he sees hundreds of customers a week he still somehow finds a way to remember everyone’s names! I’ve been personally getting my nails done by Julie for years now and have never been disappointed; go see her, she’s great! No matter what you get done here you’ll be happy!

I’m always so torn about this place. I wish I could rate them 3.5 stars — not the best, but pretty good.
Most of the girls are very nice, patient and accommodating. I always get my pedicure done by Blanca. Blanca takes her time, makes you feel relaxed and does an exceptional polish job! I’ve usually get my gel mani with Catya and I love it every time. It lasts for 3 weeks.

Red flags:
One of the girls cut me on my finger and I started bleeding (a lot). Instead of owning up to her carelessness, she said «oh you must be one of those people that bleed easily.» She was very unapologetic. In fact, she never did apologize.
I made an appointment for 2:00pm. I arrived sharply at 2:00pm. I was finally seated for my appt at 2:45pm. What’s the point of making an appt if it’s not going to be honored? I was very annoyed. However, I got a gel mani with Ana and loved it! She was kind and apologized for the wait even though it certainly wasn’t her fault.

Alas, I’ll keep coming here because this place is one of the better ones in the area and they have a good color selection.

Ahh I love this nail salon. The owners Ken and Julie treat everyone as if they are the most important customer and do the very best to get all customers in before the end of the night. I have tried 10 000 other places and I am extremely picky, they are hands down the best. Their manicurists know what they are doing and do it very well. If you dont know where to go. This is a good pick.
You can always get the newest colors. The colors do not sit on the shelf long because the place is super busy so they dont go bad like most other salons.
There prices are incredible. You can come Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday and get an amazing manicure and pedicure for $ 25. Seriously, its a steal. This place is my favorite. If you need to have your nails done that night. Make an appointment.

My favorite nail salon in hoboken! I’ve been to many but they stand apart with consistent service, nice people, great customer service and comparable prices. And the salon is clean and we’ll taken care of.

I got my nails done here for a wedding and my nail chipped hours later which was upsetting but despite that I think the service was great. I loved the hot stone massage and wax on the heels. For the price it was such a nice additive! I would come again but maybe go for a gel manicure to make sure it stays. I found the color wall to have a lot of the same colors so it was hard for me to find something I really wanted but again, there are certainly a lot of bottles to pick from. Nice staff, short wait, and clean facility.

Outraged and ripped off! I went here yesterday as I am looking for a new nail place as I recently moved to Nj. The salon was clean and filled so I took a chance and went in and asked if I could have a gel fill in with gel uv polish. I wasn’t expecting it to be cheap considering it was Hoboken. When I sat down she began filing right away and took off all the gel I had on including the tips I had just had done. She said she didn’t realize I had tips on… She then said it will be $ 80 instead of $ 60 because she would have to do fresh tips… I immediately was very upset as it was not my mistake but at the point I just had very filed nails so I said well u should have told me I advance before u filed that I would need a whole new set… But had no choice … I said it’s a shame because my nails grow so fast I come once a week for a fill and every 2 weeks for a pedicure and I was a good customer… She just snarked at me. Fine she finishes in decent time and actually did a beautiful job but here comes the kicker … She then says because u had uv gel polish which I asked for upfront it was actually going to be $ 110 for just my nails!!! I was outraged and I said that’s fine I will pay it and even give u a nice tip ($ 20 which made it $ 130 just for nails!!) cause u did a beautiful job but I would never be back again… She looked at me like I was a trouble maker… and thats it… For that kind of money I could have gotten my nails dipped in gold! They 100% should have told me that kind of pricing up front. I am no newbie to nails getting them done every which way for 20 years… Yes a beautiful job but totally got ripped off as a shop owner myself I was completely offended at that kind of stick me up business practice!

I use to really like this place but recently had 2 bad experiences with the same manicurist. I left feeling I could have done a better job myself. Each time I went I made an appointment (which is a must). I was given the same tech both times. She was so messy that she had to clean polish off my skin for each nail. Also laid the polish on so thick and uneven. They do offer a large selection of colors which is nice. I am not sure if I will be going back.

I just had a mani/​pedi here and it was such a terrible experience that I felt inclined to come right home and write this review. I got there at around 3:00 on a friday. It must have been a busy time because it was very crowded and hectic inside. I could tell they were rushing though everyone. My manicurist certainly rushed through me at least. She made me bleed while cutting my cuticles most likely because she was moving too fast and not being careful. Not to mention she cut my nails WAY too short and uneven for that matter.
It also does not seem to be very sanitary there. I did not see them clean the pedicure chair after I was finished with mine and I am almost positive another women sat down immediately after I got up. They also use the same used/​old nail files and tools on everyone.
I usually go to Bloom Spa and the service there is a thousand times better. They use fresh nail file on every customer… their tools come right out of a sanitary pouch as if you are at a doctors office. And the price for mani/​pedi is exactly the same but you get SO MUCH more at Bloom Spa (including a back massage while you are drying). The atmosphere is also much more relaxing and clean looking.
Will definitely continue to go to Bloom Spa and will not be returning to Modern ever again.

Went here for the first time and the service was amazing! I got a regular mani-​pedi and had an amazing experience. Gloria did a great job and I’m def going back.

My go to nail place in Hoboken! They are friendly, very clean and do a fantastic job. Incredible wall of nail polishes and huge selection of gel colors, mainly Essie & OPI. A gel mani and basic pedi will cost about $ 50 if you pay in cash. A basic pedi also gets you a scrub and hot stone massage, can’t beat that! I think they have a promotion that runs from Mon-​Wed for $ 25 mani/​pedis.

Got a wax & pedicure from Ana. She did a great job, especially with the pedi. I agree with another reviewer, this place is hit or miss depending on who you get. Will look for Ana again next time.

This place is a joke! My technician rushed through my pedicure and was extremely rough. They are short and look like they hate their job! If you aren’t passionate about your job get a new one. Very disappointed!

I would give 4 ½ stars but it’s wrong to rate them 4 stars just because their prices are a little high. This place is great, clean, and I’ve never seen so many gels in my life. The treatment is amazing, even give complementary back massages while you’re waiting for your last round of gels to dry. $ 32 for gel, but they take credit cards and in my opinion it is so worth it. It’s usually busy though so watch out, call ahead.

I am nothing but thrilled about my manicure/​pedicure. I had never been into this salon and I will definitely be going back. Monday-​Wednesday they have $ 25 manicure/​pedicures and Rebecca did an amazing job. The only thing that was irritating was that the owner tried to switch Rebecca mid manicure to do someone else’s nails. I said no. She did nothing but a thorough job and my nails look fantastic! Highly recommend Modern Nails and Rebecca (she does gel too).

Quick and consistently good service for manicures and pedicures. They’re always packed no matter what time you go so it definitely helps to make an appointment. Would recommend!

My go to in Hoboken. They do a good job on my gel nails and I love the hot stones they use during the pedicures. They’re always really busy, make an appointment or else you’ll wait.

I’ve gotten my nails done here a handful of times. Even got a membership card because I thought this place would be my go-​to place. But, the last two times I’ve come to this place, I’ve noticed inconsistent work.
I came here today and I’m overall happy with their nail color selection and generally the girls are great at cleaning up your nails. But, I’m very particular about my nails. The last few times, the women who did my nails did a very poor job on putting on the last top coat before sending me off to the dryer machines. They do not cover your entire nail and it ends up looking unsmooth in the light. It really bothers me and I have to reapply at home.
I’m not going to drop this place entirely, but it would be nice not having to tell the manicurist how they should do something. Each time, I’ve had to tell my lady to file more or make my nail straighter or paint more thoroughly. This place is always packed and it isn’t a terrible place, but I think I’m going to have to search more on a better spot.

I come here every week for a manicure and every two weeks for a pedicure. (Maybe once in a while I cheat, but always end up disappointed else where). I have been coming here since high school, however, today’s experience really has pushed me to write a review. (I’m currently getting my toes painted BTW, by Gilma, who is AMAZING)
Gilma gave me the worlds best pedicure today. She was not afraid to dig deep to clean my toes. That’s the best. I hate when pedicurists are so gentle. Her massage was out of this world. She really took her time. The staff is friendly. It’s very busy during the week. On the weekends I suggest you get here when it opens. The best is, they don’t open until 9:30, but never turn down a client that comes in before they officially open.
The nail polish selection is what keeps me coming back more than the service. I’ve never been to another nail salon that has as much variety as modern does. I never repeat a color due to lack of selection, only if I absolutely love it. If you’re into gel nail polish, again, they have a huge selection. I’ve been to other nail salons that lack in the gel department.
I’m also a pain in the ass when it comes to manicures. I get more than one color on my nails and always smudge a nail before I leave. No one gives me a hard time about any of it.
