Jack’s Cabin

Went there with the kids for an early dinner around 5pm. Place wasn’t busy at all. In fact I counted about 10 employees and 10 customers including us (I had lots of time to do this). We ordered the typical kids menu eg chicken fingers and fries and specified to bring the kids food out first. 20 – 25 minutes later we got 2 adult appetizers. During our wait we asked about the kids food at least 3 times and were told its coming out in a few. Kids food came out 40 – 45 minutes after we ordered basically brought out with our entrees. By that time I lost my appetite and had my turkey burger wrapped up. They didn’t even acknowledge our wait time or their own incompetence. Chicken fingers and fries shouldn’t take longer than 10 – 15 max to make, especially when the kitchen isn’t busy. They only put in the order 30 minutes after we ordered while insisting that it was coming right out. Food was unmemorable!
Will not repeat.

An absolutely terrible experience. This has to do with the quality of the food. Chicken and waffles were bland and dry. Almost choked.
The wings were mehh… Nothing that pops out at you. I had heard good things about the place but my friend said they recently changed the menu.
Idk if i would try it again.

Event: My wife and I ate here on our first night in Hoboken (moved Memorial Day weekend). Given Jack’s is right around the corner from our place, we decided to celebrate to move and stumble home. We think the experience was a mixed bag
Food: I had the short rib grilled cheese. it was fine as was the accompanying fries. My wife had a steak and had a similar reaction. There are a lot of other things that looked interesting, but we were not hungry enough to gorge.
Service: Not the best effort. On a Friday night when the place was half empty, service was really slow. took at least 20 min just to get drinks. they made it up to us by giving us a round on the house (a positive) but charged $ 2 because my bourbon was «on the rocks». I had never heard of that before and was flabbergasted. Server explained that because of the ice, they actually pour more alcohol in. Sounds shady, but if they told me that upfront (instead of when i got the bill), i would have been OK with it. All about how you present it
Bottom line: A mixed bag of great location, ok food and not so good service. We’ll try it again, but will be wary

Jacks Cabin is the perfect combination of upscale cuisine without the prevention or high prices. I have been going here since it opened, and can say, I have never had a bad meal. The aesthetics and architecture inside and out is great. They are very kid friendly, and most of all, it feels cozy and comfortable. People who complain about slow service during the peak times (a la Friday nights), need to relax themselves, as everything is fresh and made to order. The only thing frozen, is the ice cubes in their creative cocktails.

Update: the new manager is a drag and kind of bitchy. I’m here only like four times a week y know.
Wonderful spot that I eat lunch at at least three times a week.
The French onion soup is amazing.
Also the chopped house salad is great and my current go to. I ask for no cheese though and add crispy chicken.
Not a huge fan of the short rib grilled cheese but the salmon burger is totally worth it if you’re in the mood for something lighter than a burger but as flavorful.
Beer section is also better than most places around here. Constantly changing the taps and even have my favorite, little sumthig, in the bottle all the time.
My one complaint is that aside from the friendly, polite and well trained bar tenders who serve me, the other restaurant employs looks like they’re about to bludgeon a screaming toddler. My advice would be to smiles more :)

Jack’s has always been a solid pick for American cuisine close to my house, but when I stopped in on a quiet Sunday night– May 1^st– I felt like I was an annoyance to the young bartender who didn’t know what a hot toddy was (not cared to) and was far more interested in her phone than in her job. I got the distinct sense that she wanted to do anything but be there and my 18% tip was probably too generous. You don’t ask someone if they want their empty plates cleared– you just do it. Especially when there’s only 4 other people at the bar.
Plus the veal meatballs were extremely salty.

5 stars for the service. Just had brunch. Best service I’ve had in Hoboken, a town I’ve come to note for poor service and worse management. Our server had glasses and a ponytail, great skin and nice smile. Very attentive. Food is standard fare. Space is beautiful. Live 5 min away, can’t believe I haven’t been before, will be back.

We were referred here by a friend… very good blood bloody mary… other then that…3 stars… service was just ok… menu very limited… our burgers were good… but I can get a burger anywhere… just ok… top to bottom.

The food was… meh. I’ve been here twice — once a few months ago and again last week. The first time, I ordered the chicken and waffle sliders appetizer as my meal since I wasn’t too hungry. I wasn’t impressed at all. It was my first time eating chicken and waffles and I wasn’t a fan (I probably just earned myself som haters with that statement lol). But I hate maple syrup so I like my waffles a certain way, and apparently not with chicken. But I also feel like the chicken and waffles specifically HERE weren’t particularly good. It just wasn’t seasoned as well as it could’ve been. The second time I came here, we started with the cheesesteak egg rolls and for entrees had the chicken pesto sandwich and Jack’s classic burger. I liked my chicken sandwich — the pesto sauce was on point and it came on focaccia bread, which I liked. The sweet potato fries that I got with my sandwich were also very good, crispy just the way I like them. One note on my sandwich, though, the bread on my sandwich was toasted so that the crust was very hard, and it actually kept scratching the roof of my mouth painfully with every bite. Our waitress was friendly and attentive enough. What was strange to me was that there was another girl following our server around. I assume that she was in training and still learning the ropes on being on the wait staff, but she literally STUCK by her, following closely behind her everywhere she went, every step and turn… I’m sure it was what she was told to do, but the hovering sort of made me feel awkward and uncomfortable and I did not enjoy that, especially since the space was already cramped to begin with (see below).

I think I’m biased because I love being outdoors and so I enjoy most places with outdoor seating on a nice day. The first time I went here, I was on a double date and it was a nice spot, despite its somewhat strange location. Jack’s Cabin lies on a sharp corner between two streets on an intersection, so you’d think the cars passing by might bother you. But it wasn’t bad, it was still nice. The table was for four and had an umbrella to give us some shade. Note: don’t wear short shorts or you’ll get an imprint from the metal chairs. The second time coming here, we were seated inside. I liked the décor and the lighting — it was a little different/​quaint and «cabin”-like. It’s a small place so I really liked that their door was folding so it opened up to the outside a bit, letting some natural light and air inside and opened up the space (although we were seated in the back so it didn’t really make a difference for us). The place has a couple of long high tables closer to the door, as well as the bar. We chose to sit in the back for some more privacy though. Generally, the place was a bit cramped in terms of restaurant seating (not bar area). My boyfriend and I couldn’t back up our chairs too comfortably at the table, so that was pretty annoying.
Tldr; food meh, pricey, like the décor and feel, felt a bit cramped, felt kind of uncomfortable with the wait staff

I’ve wanted to come here for a while it always looked so cute and cozy on the outside. I love the dining area décor– with the floating wood trunk pieces above. Super cool! But after having a meal here, can’t say I’m dying to come back. The food was okay, there were some really nice points (salmon skin was crispy! And the squash paired really nicely with the salmon), some average ones (Meatballs), and some not so good (french onion soup was not flavorful at all). Service was amazingly slow and I don’t think our server did a good job checking up on us at all — in fact, many of the server helpers (bus boys?) were more attentive that our actual server was. The dining area is pretty tiny and being that we were in the middle row, we had people bushing up on us on both sides all night.
I have to say, though, that I smelled the wings all night and they smelled amazing. I might need to come back at a less crowded time, sit in the bar area, and have wings and drinks. The people in the bar area looked like they were all having a great time.

Food made with no love.
The ambiance has a pseudo cyber punk décor to it. Industrial — Sharp and sleek but uninviting and uncomfortable.
The food was fresh — all the ingredients were there but somehow something was missing.
I ordered the Cheesesteak Springrolls Plate, which at $ 11, had only 2 rolls cut into halves. Too little! Furthermore, the springrolls were too thick to be appetizingly flaky,
My wife and I also ordered the Spinach Dip Bread Bowl Plate, which albeit was creamy, lacked cheesiness and substance. The bowl also was extremely small and not hallowed out enough. The pieces of the bread on the side that were supposed to be crisply toasted had an unpleasant black streak on them. The bread has to be toasted to be golden NOT black.
If it weren’t for food that lacked love from the chef, Jack’s cabin could have been a slam dunk instead it was an air ball.

Heard a lot of good things about this place and was not disappointed. Came here yesterday for a Valentine’s Day brunch and had a terrific experience.
First and foremost, the service was incredible. Our waiter was very attentive, friendly and helpful. We never had an empty water glass, and he seemed genuinely interested in making sure we were doing all right. I didn’t catch his name, but we were both very happy with his service.
The food was terrific as well. I had an omelet with cheddar, onion and bacon, and it was one of the best omelets I’ve had in a while. There was a ton of very flavorful cheddar and the bacon was crisp. The potatoes were a little limp, but still very good, and the toast that came along with it, despite not having butter, was also pretty damn tasty. My girlfriend got the Eggs Benedict and, other than the same issue with the potatoes, she had an equally good experience with her food.
On the cocktail side, I got a bacon-​infused bourbon Bloody Mary, which other than being a tad heavy on the spice was delicious (and this is coming from someone who doesn’t like Bloody Marys). The lady got a Bite the Bulleit (bourbon, apple brandy and a cinnamon stick), which was just the right amount of sweet .
Definitely coming back here for brunch, and very excited for them to open up their new outpost at the old Clinton Social.

Finally got to try the food. We came here on a Monday night and opted out of the Restaurant Week menu (yes, Hudson County is participating in RW, but the list is quite short). We first ordered a bottle of Malbec and took our time going through the menu — it’s not extensive and I yearned for a bit more variety, but for now, this will do. Our waiter, John was a doll. He was warm, friendly, and super attentive.
We ordered a chicken parm and the Cabin’s Cobb (with no bacon, and added grilled chicken). The chicken parm was pretty on point. The cheese on top could’ve been melted a bit more — it was gummy and I was a bit turned off by how I had to slice through cheese like it was a piece of steak. Bit odd, but the taste was fine. The chicken parm came with kale salad on the side. The kale was fresh but the dressing was a bit tooooo sour for my taste — we joked that neither of us would have any enamel left by dinner’s end. The cobb was good — salad was fresh and the dressing tasted homemade. I’m obsessed with avocado, and there was a generous amount of that. The grilled chicken was a bit dry, but that was expected, so no complaints here.
The cute décor and the warm atmosphere makes it a pretty good spot for casual dining and drinks. We sat at a high-​top table which was a bit small for my liking. This place gets pretty packed during the weekends though, so I’d probably avoid it unless I’m there early.

Came here for brunch on a Saturday that wasn’t so busy and had to wait about 40 minutes to get our food. Judging from the temperature, I could tell it’s been sitting there for a little while.
The chicken & waffle sliders were decent, though nothing spectacular, and I’ve had better elsewhere. The whole «slider» concept doesn’t work at all. A slider is meant to be picked up with your hands. If, like me, you want to eat these with your hands, then I sincerely wish you the best of luck. The short rib grilled cheese sandwich was delicious and a great idea, but unfortunately it was lukewarm and shamefully soggy by the time it go to our table.
The table where they sat us was in an extremely uncomfortable section of the restaurant. It was in this tight corner next to the kitchen, with a lot of waiter and customer traffic. A couple of times, I had to get up and move my chair over so that people with their kid strollers could get through.
There were several other items on the menu which I would’ve loved to try, but sadly, after this brunch experience, I probably won’t be back.

Finally visited this place since I moved close by. It was a Saturday around 2PM. The restaurant was not very crowded and people were finishing up their food. We ordered chicken and waffle sliders, short rib grilled cheese sandwich and side of market vegetables. It took about 40 minutes for us to get the food. I saw the chicken and waffles was ready and sitting on the pickup counter for a while until the waiter brought it out to our table. I am not sure why the host sat us at a table, where had the most traffic since there were so many other available tables. And there was another family right behind us, which was very hard to have people to pass through.
The food tasted not bad overall. However, I do have a few complaints. Chicken and waffle sliders were above the average but the waffles weren’t crispy and chicken strips were too crispy. Short rib grilled cheese tasted great but it was too soggy. I was expecting the bread was more crispy. Not sure I will ever go back again.

Such a cute spot in Hoboken. I loved the ambience and its location, away from all the crazy bars. As someone in another review described it as «cozy», it really is the perfect description for Jack’s. Cozy and laid back.
They have creative menu items. The chicken and waffles was a must for me. (I got it as my main, and it was very filling.) The meatballs app was tasty but small. I’d skip that. They were out of the cheesesteak egg rolls :(Next time.
The cocktails were on the pricey side at $ 12 each. I opted for a beer instead. Tried the pumpkin ale and I loved the presentation. Served in a mason jar with a cinnamon sugar rim. Yum! I’ll be back for sure!

Nice place in the back of Hoboken. I watched the old bar get renovated for over three years and it finally became Jacks.
Small cozy locale with a nice menu. Sandwiches are good and do are the burgers. Unlimited mussels during the week. Worth it.
No other places back there but hopefully Jacks sets the bar. No pun intended. Great placement for the Heights crew. Right off the 100 Steps.

Vibe: a bit dim with lots of unfinished wood and hanging light bulbs — we really liked it. There’s a loft and stairs to a second floor but not sure what’s there.
Service: hostess was a bit indecisive, but our waiter was solid — checking in, keeping our glasses filled, and making some good suggestions.
Food: I got the turkey burger with caramelized onions and avocado and it was delicious! Juicy, which is key, and very filling. I saved half for lunch the next day. Sweet potato fries were slightly overdone, but I still ate them all.
The cheesesteak was okay, nothing special.
The blistered peppers with sea salt were a fun way to mix up the appetizer game.
Drinks: they had about 8 cocktails, beers, and wine. The Bite The Boulleit is my recco!
Overall, we’ll be back! I’m dying to try the Bacon Bloody Mary for brunch!

I’ve only been once, but once was enough to make me a fan.
This place is pretty small, but I dig that. But don’t expect to come during a busy time with a large party and get seated immediately. I’d recommend not coming with large parties at all unless you check in with them first, that’s how small we are talking.
The place is nicely designed. Similar to new restaurants, they are rocking Edison bulbs, rustic wood, etc… Service was great, although my party and one other person were there, so that’s not saying much. Kale salad with shrimp for me, turkey burger for her, meatballs to share. No booze for us, but their cocktail menu was solid with 7 – 8 great drinks including a few bloody mary options, including one with bacon (snap!).
The meatballs ($ 9) were 3 delicious tender veal & ricotta meatballs in a really subtle tomato sauce that I really enjoyed. Not the cheapest app, but really tasty and easy to share. My kale salad ($ 9) with shrimp ($ 6) was delicious. I feel like at this point in life I’m a good judge of a kale salad and this one was definitely a good one. Nicely cut up strips of fresh kale in a delicious homemade caesar/​lemon/​pecorino dressing. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and nicely sized. I would definitely recommend. My friend’s turkey burger looked bangin’. Nicely sized topped with cheese, avocado and a ton of other goodies nicely priced at about $ 11. She was able to sub in a side salad to forgo those fries, and that salad was large!
The menu overall is similar to a gastropub. Burgers, salads, I spied a lobster roll and a chicken and waffles sandwich. Not sure if this was only their lunch menu and if a dinner menu with more entrée like options is available, but I gotta say, lunch was pretty great.
An added bonus for this Jersey City girl: Jack’s Cabin is not located in the heart of Hoboken, but rather on the cusp of JC. As the bartender added, oh Jersey City, it’s right across the street. Yes! Limited parking to boot! Done.
