Zazu Salon & Day Spa

I have been coming to Zazu for years. I love getting pedicures. I recommend coming here to get a spa service.

Had a deep massage with Sabina. Understood I’d be sore in the morning but didn’t expect the 3 by 1 inch deep bruise I’d find in the morning. Receptionist said she’d pass my number on to the manager when I called to discuss the matter. No response from management. Love Andrew (hair) and Summer (skin) but never will have a massage there. Not a great way to treat customers.

I have used Zazu for my teenage daughters many times, and it has not been pleasant. My oldest daughter has adult hair, and the last two times she has been there, they had the wrong information in the computer for her services. The reception desk was rude to her, and after an overall dissatisfying experience, they charge a lot of money. I am done.

One of my friends recommended Zazu to get my hair cut. I normally go to Mario Tricoci but my hair stylist left the state and I have yet to find a stylist who I am in love with to do my hair so I was open to trying out Zazu.
I called the morning of to place an appointment. The receptionist put me on hold for 5 minutes. When she placed me off of hold, she did not say anything for a few minutes so I was able to hear everything that was being said in the salon. A bit unprofessional for such a highly respectable salon but I still made an appointment. When I came in for my appointment, I was waiting for the receptionist for 10 minutes while she was on the phone. She later pointed me to another area where there were two receptionist who made me wait another 5 minutes. By this time, I was a little annoyed by the unprofessionalism that I had experienced. i waited for my hairstylist and was not offered any beverages while I was waiting. My hair stylist came to get me and immediately took me to the washing station. She offered me a conditioning treatment for an additional charge. I must admit the scalp massage was nice. I have heard that there is a complimentary neck massage as well but I was not given one. My hair stylist talked to me about my hair and listened to my needs. She gave me a nice trimming without taking much length off which is what I asked for. When it came time for her to blow dry my hair, she burned me a few times. I like my hair to have a little volume in it so I asked her to blow dry it with a bit of a curl on the bottoms. She told me she was going to go over it with a curler. Reluctantly I stayed quiet and let her do her thing. After all she is a hair stylist so she must know what she’s talking about, right? Wrong. She took a hair straightener and went over my ends with it. Some of my ends had a nice curl while the other ends had a wave. My hair looked like a mess. I went to the front desk to pay. I’m used to going to expensive salons to get my hair done and don’t have a problem paying a little more than average but for my experience, I knew I was being overcharged. I walked out of Zazu regretting giving it a chance. I should have just stuck with Mario. The only reason why I’m adding an extra star in this review is for the conditioning treatment. My hair is a bit shinier and manageable due to it but everything else was horrible. If you’re looking for an unprofessional salon that won’t do the basics for you and will rip you off, Zazu is definitely the place to go.

I have been coming to Zazu for many years due to their products. Previously went to Aveda Salon that only used their product and it is awful on curly, grey hair. Switched salons and went to Stylist Tiffany P but then changed to Amber and just love her! She listens to the customer and has great suggestions. The Salon receptionist are very rude and not very friendly need to remember Customer Service is key especially the older Ladies. Answering the phone almost immediately is great, but to turn around and then
put you on hold for awhile is not good.
Their prices are a bit steep, be aware.

Made a hair cut appt. with my daughter with a particular stylist who had done her hair for prom the week before. We come in and they gave her a totally different stylist. What? When I showed them our appt. card with the name on it, they just said we would have o wait because she was busy and just took someone else. Why should we have to wait for the person we had an appt. for when we had an appt. at that time in the first place. I left this place 10 years because they got too big and so did the attitude. I used to go here when they were on the second floor studio in Hinsdale. Guess it is time to leave again. Oh well. Manager was cooly arrogant, not nice.

I used to go to Zazu on a regular basis, but switched salons to find something less expensive when my wonderful stylist moved. On a whim, I decided I needed a haircut and called Zazu for an appointment. I spoke with the receptionist who was pleasant, but I was taken by surprise when she asked what «price range» I would like to be in for my cut. Different stylists have different prices? Good to know! I told her I just wanted a simple cut so I wasn’t looking for anything extravagant and she set up an appointment with Glen for the following day. I go in for my appointment and all is well until I have the «pleasure» of meeting Glen. He was so arrogant and insulting that I almost walked out as soon as I sat down in the chair, but I decided to stick it out. I didn’t speak to him much during the appointment because it was unpleasant to hear all of his rude comments about my hair (saying I don’t take care of it because it is dry even though I’m just currently on medication that dries me out, calling it frumpy, etc) and towards the end of the cut, he told me he didn’t enjoy talking to me because I wasn’t «fun». As a style for my hair, Glen decided to make it curly. I wish I had taken a picture of my hair leaving that salon because it was just hilarious. A frizzy, poofy mess that was sticky with all the product dumped on it. After paying a ridiculous $ 90 (not including tip) for the haircut, which I will admit was decent, I washed the gunk out of my hair and decided I will not be returning.

The interior is cool and has a fun vibe. The receptionists were decent although I wasn’t greeted or even acknowledged when I walked in. My stylist was friendly and did an average job. She wasn’t helpful with ideas or input, which I asked for several times. No complaints on her work but I wasn’t wowed.
I was a little irritated when I checked out and realized that a conditioning treatment she gave me cost around $ 60. I have no problem paying for a treatment but she failed to be clear with me. She said my hair looked like it needed this conditioner and I said ok. Knowing I was a first time client, I would expect (and appreciate) her being more forthright with the info .like that she was doing a «treatment» and not just putting in a conditioner that my hair «needed».
I planned to go back and try another stylist due to lack of many better options in the area. After two rude conversations with reception I’ve changed my mind.

Don’t Buy Zazu Gift Cards!
Yesterday I had a mani-​pedi at Zazu. The service itself was fine; the problem came when I went to check out.
I had a $ 50 gift card that I removed from the original Zazu envelope just before the appointment. In other words, it was never used. It was a couple of years old (it was given to me when my husband passed away and frankly I had so much on my mind that I put it in a drawer and forgot about it.) The card showed no expiration date and nowhere was there a warning saying that it would lose value over time. In addition there is no way to check the balance of a gift card on their web site.
When I went to pay, I was told it had a zero balance. The manager checked it too and said it had a zero balance. They kept saying that it must have been used before, but I know the giver had purchased it and given it right to me. I took it out of the Zazu envelope, which was taped to a spa menu, right before the appointment. I asked more than once if their gift cards lose value over time and never got a straight answer.
So, either the person who sold it to my friend took their $ 50 and gave them a worthless card in return, or the card’s value went from $ 50 to $ 0 with no warning of an expiration and no one admitting that is their practice.
I don’t like the fact that they wouldn’t honor a gift card, but the part that really gets me is that they kept implying that it had been used before, as if I was the one trying to rip them off instead of the other way around.

I got my hair colored and blown out and I have never left a salon feeling more awesome about my hair. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating — it felt like I was at a resort. The colorist nailed my description and the blowout turned out incredibly well. It’s a little pricey but if you want something done well with excellent service, go here!

I absolutely love going to Zazu. I popped in without an appointment and had one of my best ever haircuts with Robin, one of their senior stylists. My color and cut were just beautiful. The only thing that could have made it better would be a nice, long scalp massage with the hair wash (one of my favorite aspects of going to the salon). The results are what matter though, and my hair looked and felt great.
I have also used Zazu for makeup and an updo for a special Black tie event, and the result was fabulous! They use the most beautiful makeup brand — La Bella Donna — and both of the stylists managed to make me look quite fabulous (a nice change). Zazu is certainly pricey, but they do a great job.

I have strangers stop me on the street to comment on my haircut (it’s not fancy, shoulder length brown hair with layers). I love it and strangers love it. Melisa consistently does an amazing job. I refuse to go anywhere else.
I also had the best facial of my life there from Nika. I’ve gone to cheaper places and gotten what I paid for. Nika is worth every penny!

I’ve been going to Zazu for two years, so I’ve had about eight very good hair cuts at this location. I can’t complain at all about the hair cut services. They do a good job!
But every time I go into this place it’s as if another, «target to sell things to» just walked in and from the time I walk in until the time I leave it’s all about the up-​sell.
Shampoo, conditioner, products, deep conditioning. Every time I go in I get almost suckered into buying additional products that I really don’t need. And by suckered in I mean I might ask what the latest and greatest product is for thick/​long hair and within minutes the person tells me the shampoo and conditioner is up at the register waiting for me when I check out. Ha? So when I check out I’m having yet ANOTHER uncomfortable conversation with the lady at the register explaining that I really didn’t ask to buy anything and that I simply asked a question. No questions apparently unless you are ready to buy, buy, buy!
And I cannot figure out why the lady that cuts my hair is always up at the register when I check out. No, she’s not checking me out, nor are we talking. She’s just standing there and once again I’m left uncomfortable. What if I didn’t want to leave 20%, what if I can’t afford to tip today, what if, what if. What if you walked away so I can feel relaxed and comfortable enough to leave a nice tip and walk out without the harassment to buy products and tip.
Bottom line: I sign up for an $ 80 hair cut and I usually walk out spending no less than $ 150 and I have the cabinet of products to show for it. Most are still sealed.
Management: Leave your technicians alone to perform the services they are there to perform and quit asking them to, «hard sell.» I imagine this is coming from the top down.
And ask them to stop standing over their clients when they check out!
Sakes, we are at a salon to unwind and breath not to have to explain why we don’t want this or that every five times.

I had the most expensive and worst hair cut at this salon with Tiffany P. l paid $ 85. My layers are very choppy and not blended and my bangs are awful. Wanted side swept bangs and ended up with really short hideous looking choppy bangs. I now have to wear a bobby pin or headband until they grow out, which is going to take awhile. I have been to many high end salons in downtown Chicago and have never had a haircut this bad. She seems like a very nice girl, but she can not cut hair. The scary part is, she is supposedly one of their trainers. Ykes!

I’ve been coming to Zazu for longer than I can remember and it’s always been a pleasant experience. It’s just what you would expect for a day spa — you feel pampered and relaxed throughout! Stylists typically don’t rush through your appointment, despite being booked back to back. They’re also great on making sure you’re happy before you leave. If you’re unhappy, let them know and they’ll take care of it. Great place for various services, highly recommend it!

Horrible front desk staff and that was just over the phone while trying to book an appt! I decided to stick with Zazu in downtown Naperville. This is a delayed review from my experience about 6 wks back so hopefully there’s been some changes since then.

I brought my friend here for a «spa day» in May right before her wedding. We both received deep-​tissue massages and both did no-​chip manicures. I’m really mixed on this place, the massages (we both had Sabina) were amazing and I left feeling refreshed and much less tense and would definitely go back again for one. However, the gel manicure was terrible. For $ 52 I expected a little more… They didn’t soak our hands at all, barely even attempted to cut our cuticles and the woman I had was very surly and unfriendly. We both left extremely disappointed with our manicures and decided we will stick with our usual nail place instead.
Overall, the staff (other than the manicurist I had) were very friendly, and helpful. I felt very relaxed before and during my massage and Sabina was great. I have also gotten my hair cut at the Zazu in Naperville, which is very nice and everyone is always friendly.

Deep tissue massage from a lady that’s not afraid to actually give you a deep tissue massage? Yes, please :)
I was able to make my appt. same day and reschedule, and the receptionists were super accommodating.
Sabina, was my massage tech, and was incredibly friendly, and customized the massage to my concerns.
My only complaint was that the dressing room leaves a little to be desired. The prices are pretty much in line with Mario T. so I’d expect a little more cush for the cost.
All in all, the location is convenient, right next to work, staff was friendly, and Sabina won me over. I’ll be back for her.

I scheduled my first beauty treatment at Zazu with a little trepidation. I don’t trust my brows to just anyone! However, I decided that the the great reviews would surely mean I would be in great hands. Right? RIGHT! From the moment I called to schedule my appointment, I knew that I would have a great experience. The girls at the desk were friendly not only over the phone but when I arrived for my appointment as well. I was graciously shown to the waiting room upstairs since I had never been to this location before. My appointment also started on time. The aesthetician, Rodica, was professional, meticulous and friendly. She really took her time on my brows and ensured that not a single hair was out of place before I departed.
The price of a brow wax is a bit more pricey ($ 23 vs. $ 20) than what I would pay in the city, but Zazu is a great Plan B to have!

I have been coming here for years and never fails I always walk out with a smile and a new do!
I have to admit on occasion I have been unfaithful due to coupons or not being in the area but I can never compare any experience to Zazu and I think it’s a sign!
I have been going to the same girl, Kim for almost 6 years now. She was only a junior stylist when I started going and since they have expanded to a second location in downtown Hinsdale and Oak Brook. She is a senior stylist and business is booming. The host and the front desk is always polite and friendly. The shampoo girls are curtious and clean and the prices are reasonable to all other salons.
I think no matter how far i stray I always come back because no one knows my hair better than Kim.
