Larson Eye Center

I am very near-​sighted and have a major astigmatism since childhood, so I was very sure I wanted to have LASIK surgery as an adult. My friend is a neural ophthalmologist, so I asked him for a recommendation. He said that if he needed eye surgery, he would choose Dr Bruce Larson, due to what a fine doctor and person Dr Larson is. I could not agree more.
I visited Dr Larson three times over 18 months to determine whether I was a good candidate for LASIK or any corrective surgery. On the first visit, he could tell that my corneas are quite thin (making surgery iffy), so he wanted to see how stable they were over time. So he told me to come back in 6 months later. Then, again, in another 6 months. He still felt that the risks of the surgery were too high for someone like me, since my extreme vision problems puts me at greater risk for things like detached retina, etc. So he ultimately recommended against surgery. He never charged me a dime for any of the consultations and he spent a lot of time with me during each visit, educating me about my eyes, their vision issues, and the things that I should be looking out for to preserve my vision. I live in the city of Chicago, but I never regretted spending the time to travel to Hinsdale to see him, even though I did not proceed with the surgery. It was so worth it.
Dr Larson set a new standard for me about the kind of doctors that I look for in all my healthcare.

We used Larson Eye Center in the past and since have move out of state. Larson’s Eye Center in Hinsdale has been fantastic in helping us as we are having difficulty with the office that we are now ordering our new glasses with. They have definitely gone the extra mile! Wish we could go back to Larson — the opticians there understand glasses!

Dr. Bruce Larson performed my Lasik surgery. He is a consummate professional, with a fantastic bedside manner. When you run into a professional with such confidence, that confidence in their abilities transfers quite seamlessly.
After a couple of consultations, I opted for the PRK Lasik, even though it meant that my vision wouldn’t return for a few days. I weighed the options and the professional advice of Dr. Larson and just felt it was a better option for me.
The procedure went perfectly, the recovery wasn’t without discomfort, though I was fully aware that it might not be, and the eye drops provided by Dr. Larson did the trick. About three days later, my vision was better than I could ever remember it being, the whiteboard in my economics class popped into focus and driving was a awesome. The conclusion of my recovery marked the end of squinting and not being able to leave the house without my specs!
Following the procedure, although it’s a very busy office, and wait times vary based on emergencies and such, the subsequent follow ups were fantastic, Dr. Larson genuinely cared about my welfare and making sure my vision was as perfect as possible, though he did reject my binocular vision request.

I have gone to the Larsons Hinsdale office for the last 2 years after getting EyeMed insurance through my work. I have to say I will not be going back next year due to the problems I encountered.
Last year I tried progressive lenses for the first time. After spending a huge amount of $$ for these they did not work for me. I ended up just getting single vision readers that should have been a $ 25 copay. Even though Larsons would not refund the rest of the $$, I went back this year and I alas made the same mistake again.
I asked the DR what would be best for me since I am tired of trying to find readers. She recommended the progressive lenses. We discussed the problems I had the year before and she still recommended them. After giving the new lenses the 2 week trial period I could not take the feeling of being in a fish bowl. Once more they refused to refund any $$ even though the tech said the eye glass vendor would get a credit for the lenses. And by the way I am again getting single vision lenses.
Recap of the past 2 years at Larsons. $ 500 for 2 pairs of single vision lenses that should have cost me $ 50. A $ 10 copay for the DR exam in addition to the annual EyeMed payroll deductions of $ 60 per year. Not only did I loose money but I also had to put up with the visual problems for two years.
In addition every single time I was at the office waiting to speak to the tech other patients were complaining they had problems with their progressive lenses. I spoke to several of my colleagues and friends who have also decided to find another eye clinic. The experience was very unpleasant.

I did not get a refund. Larsons is sticking with their story. BTW the non return policy is the small print on the bottom of your very expensive receipt… if you can read it after you have your eyes dilated.

The staff here really make the difference. Every time I’ve come in for an appointment, they go out of their way to be as friendly and helpful as possible. I recently came into their office in search of new glasses, and left, new glasses in hand, feeling very confident and happy in my decision thanks to the delightful women who work there. I must say, I’m very picky about my glasses– if they’re going to be on my face all the time, I want them to be perfect, and the staff were patient with me while I flip flopped my decision over and over again.
In terms of customer service and eye care, it really doesn’t get much better than Larson Eye Center. Thank you so much ladies for your patience with me!

Expensive. I really hope they’re right about the diagnosis, or else it’s another small fortune for another opinion.
Nevertheless, they seem more competent in comparison to my optometrist… so until I find someone better, I’m switching to LEC.
