We have had really good results from HHoP for the several times we tried it that I thought it was time to give them a review. This place is primarily a delivery and take-out restaurant so that is how I look to review it. Their Tuesday at 5:00PM $ 5 pizzas is really a great deal. We order them and get in the car and when we get there ten minutes later we are met with a nice family run place that are happy to have our business with a really good cross between a traditional Greek pizza and a regular Boston/New York style thin crust pizza. Give them a try as the best of its kind in the Hingham orbit.

They are consistently good, always timely and great about checking on your orders if they need more detail about an option you’re chosen. The Super Pollo pizza is effing great! Plus my kids won’t eat cheese pizza from any other place.

The pizza is good but takes forever for a delivery. When you tip the rude delivery driver who could not communicate in English, he raises the money and looks at both sides rubbing them together as if to say«where’s the rest». My response naturally would be if you got here, or even called me you might have gotten more. Ingrates, hate that. Be happy for what you have.

Staff is very friendly and the prices are ok but I was underwhelmed by the food quality. I am willing to try again soon, though. Undecided!

I’m so torn as to how to rate these guys. The first time I ordered from them, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven: a chicken stir-fry calzone, with peppers and broccoli and other delicious things: yum! I named them my go-to pizza place for delivery to my new home. But then everything went downhill. Few things in this world are as frustrating and disappointing as having a delivery order screwed up(maaaaybe finding out you’re adopted and your parents have decided to return you to your third-world country homeland, even though you are already 15 years old and are pretty sure that Chad, the handsome but painfully shy guy from the film club, is about to ask you to prom). If I’m having such a day where I can justify ordering a pizza, it’s REALLY important that the order is correct, as the food is most likely intended to be the one saving grace of an otherwise-failed 24 hours. After a particularly comfort-food craving inducing day, I placed an order through Foodler. Instead of receiving a pineapple pizza for my vegetarian boyfriend, I was given the full barnyard animal carnivore special. Neither of us could eat it, mostly because it was walking around the kitchen bleeding and mooing. Of course the store was closed when I called them back, so he ate toast for dinner and fell asleep unsatisfied and with resentment in his heart. The next day, when Foodler called HHOP to tell them about their mistake, they didn’t understand the problem. A meatlovers pizza costs more than a pineapple pizza, so we were essentially getting a bunch of toppings for free. Where was the issue? We should be thanking them! To their credit, they refunded the cost of the pizza, although that was small comfort after the night of guilt and shame I endured for not being able to provide a decent meal for my bf, despite using a computer and a credit card. So to give them a second chance, a few months later(again, after a particularly trying day that made me want to smother my emotions with cheese) I called and ordered buffalo wings and another fabulous chicken stir fry calzone. Fail. Instead of delicious, spicy, blue-cheese transporters, I got dry, breaded plain wings with sweet and sour sauce on the side. NOT what I was wishing for. Luckily the calzone was my safety net, but I forgot to say«light on cheese», so any kind of chicken piece, vegetable, or sauce molecule was enveloped in the gelatinous white cheese that they use, and therefore virtually undetectable. After two out of three orders just not going as planned, I have decided to give up on them, at least for delivering. If I could go in person and make sure that they actually understand my order, and make it correctly, I ‘m sure they would be great. Bottom line: Take out only. Don’t attempt to use them for delivery, unless you are OK playing pizza roulette.

A bit dirty and very very average. But overall our sandwiches were ok and comparable to any other small town pizzeria. This place isn’t meant to be top notch and overall they provide a good service. I will say though, it’s a bit weird that I was in here in August and there were still Christmas decorations on the wall. Oh well, maybe it’s just a festive bunch that runs this place.

Hingham House of Pizza(HOP) is a hole in the wall joint on North Street between Main St. and the Harbor that serves decent Greek style pizza(Greek pizza is cooked in an oiled pan, whereas with Italian style pizza the crust contacts the oven directly). If that’s all you want, you’re good to go. The service is friendly, and the prices are a little high. If I could have, I would have given it two and a half stars. We originally went to try two more interesting items on their wrap menu: the falafel and the kofta. Neither we were told was available. So we settled on a Greek wrap, a gyro and baked ravioli’s for my daughter. The Greek wrap came in a tortilla. The chicken was fine and the vegetables fresh. The ravioli’s weren’t very good. They were under cooked, under sauced and the garlic bread was over done. The best item was the gyro – that’s pronounced YEAR-OH, FYI.(A gyro– pronounced JIGH-RO– is one of the moving parts in the brains of people who can’t pronounce the sandwich correctly.) It was actually very good, and is served on an authentic pita which is a thick, round flatbread. Some places make their versions on «pita bread» which is not the same thing at all. Pita bread, sometimes called ‘pocket bread” is really more Middle Eastern than Greek. In fact, when I was a kid, it was called«Syrian» bread. Hingham HOP’s gyro also came with genuine tzatziki which is a yogurt cucumber sauce which all real gyros(mind the pronunciation) should have. So, if you are having a craving for an authentic gyro and are in the neighborhood, stop in.
