We come every year to a timeshare owned by a family member. It’s a gated community with a variety of condos/homes/villas/townhomes/hotel. Most of the places have pools just for their area. Tennis and golf is also available as well as beach access. They have lifeguards at the beach with chair and other rentals. It’s so lush in here. Beautiful place. Lots of lagoons and gators. And BIRDS! Love to get photos of it all. Also has bike paths everywhere alongside the roads. Wonderful place to vacation. Close to all the fun shopping and restaurants nearby. Highly recommend.

Hilton Head has a plantation system, where a lot of the homes/condos/villas are in gated communities called plantations. Each has a bit of its own feel, but they are more-or-less pretty similar. Shipyard has some neighborhood streets with houses on them and some mini communities of condos with vacation-themed name(think The Greens on the golf course, Harbormaster, Beach Walk, etc.). The condos are pretty similar(I’ve been in condos in about five of the twenty or so developments over the past twenty years) – most two or three bedrooms, but some are four. But each little development inside has its own tennis court, pool, and slightly different layouts/floor plans. There are bike paths throughout, and 27 holes of golf weave their way through the plantation. Shipyard is one of the older plantations on the island – and you can tell. That’s a good thing, in my eyes though. Because it was developed in the late 1970s and early 1980s, there is SOMUCHGREENERY! There are huge trees that were never cut down that line the bike paths around the beach, spanish moss hanging about the paths. Even within each condo development, there is ample room for parking and trees – some even have lagoons of their own with a friendly(as long as you don’t touch it, feed it or try to play with it) alligator or two. I think that the natural aspects of having a lot fewer condos per area makes up for the slightly older construction!

Absolutely the only way to go on vacation. It really is one of the most beautiful areas I’ve had the privilege to experience. The landscaping alone is perfect, tall pines, wide palms trees, and other tropical vegetation. Covering approximately 800 acres, Shipyard is located on the south end of Hilton Head Island. It’s a private residential community but also has villas and a world class hotel. They have recreational facilities include pools, golf, and tennis. Paths winding around the plantation provide trails for bikers and joggers. It is so nice to bike without worrying about being hit by a car. Lagoons, alligators(yep and I got pretty close… like 20 ft away… I know I’m a thrill seeker) and island foliage are just a few of the scenic backgrounds. Also only a 20 min. walk to the beach and Atlantic Ocean. Going in June was hot but from what I hear it is the best month to visit for summer. I was fortunate enough to be with a group who’s family member owns a home in this area and I can not thank them enough for inviting me. I tell you I felt like royalty staying in this magnificent 4 bedroom home. Thanks again!!!
