History

Established in 2003.

The original Lex Brodie’s Tire Co. was started by Alexander Brodie on Oahu in 1961. Lex was famous for his great customer service & integrity. In 2003, Hawaii Tire Company saw the need for a reputable tire & auto service facility on the Big Island and bought a licensing agreement to use the Lex Brodie’s Tire name.

Hawaii Tire Co. dba Lex Brodie’s Tire & Service Center applies the same high standard of customer care to our customers that Alexander Brodie expected from his employees. We follow a Customer Bill of Rights that was instilled by the company and is practiced everyday.

Lex Brodie’s Tire & Service Center of the Big Island is a locally owned small business with four locations. We are located in Hilo, Pahoa, Waimea & Kona and are able to take care of you & your vehicle as your drive across our island.

Lex Brodies Hilo operates with integrity and service. I’ve had numerous days that have brought me to their doors. ‘Louis’ is an fastidious service rep that handles all questions simply and quickly. The whole wait time is reduced by techs that know their job and either fresh front porch, or hosted coffee waiting room and T.V.

After reading reviews on tire repair places in Hilo, Lex Brodie’s was the only shop I wanted to make an appointment with. I called right at 7am to schedule their next appointment, and I did not get through until 7:20am. I had a nail in my tire and was told no appointment was necessary. After inspection, the technician told me the nail was too close to the sidewall, and I would need to purchase a new tire. I trusted their evaluation and was told the cheapest tire for my car would be $ 200 after balancing. Again, I trusted their service and told them to go ahead. I talked to local friends later that day and was told Lex Brodie’s has a reputation to tell almost everyone they need a new tire. I guess I will never truly know whether or not I got taken advantage of. I still try to give Lex Brodie’s the benefit of the doubt on that.
Before I checked out, I mentioned my car was under lease and did not want to add on the lifetime tire protection plan. I paid and left. Later in the day, I reviewed the invoice only to find out that I had been charged for the lifetime tire protection plan. Although it was a minimal charge, at this point, I felt that Lex Brodie’s was only in it for making a few extra dollars off me. It was very disappointing.
Just a warning to future customers who may be told they need a new tire — it is worth the time and energy to get a second look and to price different shops. Looking back on it, I wish I would not have been so eager to fix my tire problem. Valuable lesson learned. Lex Brodie’s did have me come back for a refund on the protection plan, but again, it was wasted time for me to go back the next day for something I had originally declined.
With all the great reviews on Unilocal,I am sorry to have to say I would not recommend Lex Brodie’s to anyone in the future. Maybe you will have better luck than I did.

Outstanding service and amazingly fast work!
I had a screw in my tire. I first stopped at Sears where they said it would take 4 – 5 hours to plug! I called Lex Brodie’s and Anita said to come on over. In no time my car was in their shop. They were even nice enough to show me how badly I had ruined my tire by driving on it flat, lol. I decided that since my tires were in dire need of replacement anyhow, I would see if they could change them out. They went over my options and took care of it in record time. I was out of there in less than 2 hours!

I brought my car in for what I thought might be semi-​major suspension work. The crew at Lex Brodie’s figured-​out the issue, made an adjustment and an annoying suspension noise/​issue went away. I also got my oil & filter changed and came away with a total bill for about $ 43. Great, honest service, professional place. I had my brakes done from them on the past too and they did a great job. They even fixed a tire puncture I had once for free and I didn’t even buy my tires from them. If you need your car serviced drop by, you can trust them to do it right and not rip you off.

Excellent customer service. Would definitely go again and also recommend this place to family and friends. Tried to call firestone first and was put on hold for over 20 minutes regarding an oil change. After hanging up I checked Unilocal for good reviews on an oil change service. Found Lex brodies to have good reviews, went with it, and was not let down.

Took a tire with a nail in it. Didn’t charge me because there was no puncture in the tire, the nail was just stuck on the surface. They pulled it out and made sure tire wasn’t leaking. Original quote to fix was $ 28 and employee tells me, «we don’t charge you for work we didn’t do.» Wow! For someone who wouldn’t have known any different, I sincerely appreciate the honesty and wonderful customer service. It’s so refreshing! Will return for ALL of my car service needs because I really trust these guys!

my family relied on lex brodie in honolulu and hilo through the 60, 70’s, and forward. was very surprised to discover that in the modern day… both the pahoa and hilo lex brodie service centers are failing to keep the tradition of good service going. upon my last visit, i found lex brodie’s did not communicate to me clearly, did not keep appointments, did work that was less than satisfactory, and did not appear to show much interest in making me a satisfied customer. i base this on 2 consecutive experiences, i cannot afford to have them mishandle a 3rd. i’d suggest big island consumers look elsewhere for their automotive service needs.

I am a field technician by day and an awesome Dad by night… My work vehicle is my life and I drive all over the Big Island so I am very dependent on this vehicle. Mahalo to Lex Brodies for helping me to keep it running fine. I believe any work they suggest is needed and they respect and understand the need to keep a vehicle running while not breaking your wallet. I appreciate that they look at the brakes while it is on the lift for routine service and they will advise you if work is needed. The brake pads were nearing the end of life and catching this when we did potentially saved hundreds of dollars since the rotors were still in good shape. I know there are some who believe the brake checking is just a scam for more business but, after 3 years of bringing the vehicle here, that is not the case with Lex Brodies.
I came to Lex Brodies after another repair shop tried to sell me an alignment that was not needed. 50 000 miles and 3 years later, I have never been approached for alignment and the tires wear normally.
I am confident my car will go when it needs to go and stop when it needs to stop…
