We did the zip line tour last Tuesday and had an absolute wonderful and thrilling experience. The entire staff from the minute we walked into the shop was very professional and courteous. Kudos to our 3 guides led by Ari. They took great care of us from putting on heavy equipment to keeping us connected to each line. We felt very safe. Thanks! Will definitely recommend.

We had a fabulous time! Alison and Rudy were amazing tour guides and our driver Kanoe was AWESOME.

We did the Heli/Zippin’/Volcano tour. Glenn was our guide. He was an awesome dude! He was extremely knowledgeable about Hawaiian history, culture, and life on the island. We learned a lot from him. He also made our experience flexible, ensuring that I could visit a music shop in Hilo.
We loved ziplining and exploring the interesting plant life and the wild pigs that hang out around the zipline course. One of our guides, Jess, was super cool. I am afraid of heights, but she made me feel really comfortable. Glenn met us halfway with a modest bag lunch– I suggest getting the Italian sandwich.
We also did a helicopter tour over the volcano which was cool except it wasn’t what I was expecting. We expected to see lots of bright orange lava flows. Mostly it was charred black with spots of orange, but I suppose that is a good thing– the volcano wasn’t erupting. The pilot was great and pointed out some whales that surfaced, which was pretty exciting, and his dogs in his backyard, which was pretty humorous.
Finally, due to a helicopter flight delay, we were running a little late to dinner but we didn’t feel rushed as we got to explore the lava tube and we made a special stop to look out over the volcano from a different angle and see a huge basin that had filled up with lava in 1983.
The dinner at Volcano House was okay. The drinks and dessert cost extra but were not worth it! Drink the beer if you need to have an alcoholic drink. The mixed drinks were awful.
Our last scheduled stop was at the Jagger Museum which was really cool. There is a lot of mythology side by side with the science of the volcano and that is right up my alley!
Finally, Glenn pulled over at a naturally occurring steam vent which, even though we were tired we all got really excited about it! He also pointed out some fine strands of Pele’s hair lava which was pretty cool.
Glenn was a highlight of this already exciting and action packed trip. I highly recommend it.

We did the Zip Line Through Paradise trip and had a fantastic time! Great scenery and an amazing experience for novice and experiences zip liners! We had grandparents, parents and small children in our group (6 and 8 maybe) and they were totally eased into the experience by the amazing guides (Anthony, Dishman, and fantastic guy from South Africa (sorry can’t recall your name :-/​) these guys were so fantastic! They were funny and informative and made everyone feel safe and comfortable.
The equipment is top notch, double zip cables and locked in while on platforms so everyone was very safe while having a blast!
We have amazing GoPro footage from this trip and great stills as well! We brought our own GoPro but they have them to rent and they guides are awesome about helping you turn them on and off at each of the 8 lines!
I’d give this place 10 stars if I could!!! :-)

THIS is the tour to book people! Kona coffee farm, black sands beach, bomb diggity bakery, volcano tour, and SO MUCH MORE. well worth the price for an all day adventure and knowledge sesh with great staff and organization from the company. *tour hack* If you want extra intel on the tour filled with humor and supreme knowledge, ask for PHIL RIZKALLA. The dude is super knowledgeable and goes the extra mile to ensure the best tour possible. I guarantee you will not regret your decision and you’ll enjoy the extra perks of being on his tour! I won’t leak the surprises but… it’s delicious. Hit up this tour and ask for Phil. Aloha!

This was honestly the best tour I’ve ever been on! Emma is an awesome tour guide! I can’t recommend them more!

I booked two tours (zipline and volcano) with KapohoKine Adventures tour through them and Expedia at my resort. Of course, I did end up getting a discount since I attended a presentation at my resort, so I cannot comment on price (You know the deal at these resorts right? yea, I thought so…)
Anyway, my zipline adventure tour was AWESOME. Okay, I was nervous and gonna piss my pants at any moment terrified the entire drive over *you need to drive yourself*. But rest assured, if I can do it, then you can to. The ziplines have two attachments, an automatic break *don’t need to do it yourself! yay!* and the longest zip on the island. Eight line, all dual, so you’ll never really need to zip alone. Our tour guides were awesome (forgot their names, but they were cool!).
At the store, you have the option to purchase/​rent a GoPro, do it! Seriously, and buy it if you don’t already own it, it became useful. After a rocky ass drive up to the start of the course, they give you a rundown/​how to, safety instructions,. etc. Then they get you into the gear, and after a climb on your first of many suspensions, you get on with your first zip. The first zip, is the appetizer. This will prepare you for the adrenaline to come. If you can do the first two, you’re golden. I will say, the exit to zip 4 can only be described as evil fun. Zip 4 gives you a mini break, and a bathroom. Use it. Cause after that, you got nothing but God’s green earth and it’s from a large height. There are 4 more zips after this, and the last one is downright breathtaking. I mean. Yes!
The evening volcano tour was an all day event. You get picked up on this tour, you go to a coffee farm where you will stop for lunch and get a coffee farm tour. This was enjoyable, and if you like coffee (especially Kona!) you’ll really have a good time here. Lunch comes with an amazing view, naturally. After coffee, you’re on to the next sight. You get to go Punalu’u Bake Shop which is the Southern most bakery in the Southern most town in the USA (if I need to explain that, it’s called 3^rd grade geography). The malasadas there are different from Leonard’s on Oahu, but no less delicious. After a quick stop and purchase of wonderful baked goods, you get to see SEA TURTLES! A black sand beach (get the coconut from uncle in the parking lot) and enjoy the black sand between your toes while you gaze at the ocean and turtles. I might have gotten a little excited to see the turtles…
After that, you get a view of the crater, a volcano tunnel, dinner, and then, the main show, the one you came all the way out to Hawaii for, Kilauea in all her wondrous glory. The Jagger Museum is the final stop and viewpoint for one of the most active volcanoes in Hawaii and the world. Don’t expect a huge and warm welcome though, but don’t expect her to just sit there and not do anything either. You will see her glowing, but not necessarily flowing. And please, don’t complain to the company about that either. This is Mother Nature and a freaking volcano Goddess we’re talking about. No one can control that. After a good while there, take advantage of the restroom, cause after this, it’s the long journey back to Kona. Our tourguide was John and he was great, keeping us entertained, and telling us stories and legends about Kilauea.
Shout out to all our drivers for also keeping us safe!
I definitely would book another tour when I find myself back on the Big Island.

Zipline adventure review:
Kudos to the entire staff!!! Warm and friendly welcome staff at the downtown Hilo store. They get everyone organized with multiple tours leaving around the same time.
The staff did an awesome job accommodating my last minute request to «walk along» while my husband zipped.
Safety first is evident in their paperwork, announcements, and redundant equipment checks. The platforms and gear all appeared to be in excellent condition.
The staff also accommodated my husband’s request to end his adventure after the fourth track. They couldn’t have been nicer about the special arrangements.
Back at the store at the end, the staff was downright sweet about writing up refunds for me when I didn’t even ask. AND they make sure that no guest leaves without the assurance that they know where they are going next, with good directions. When they found out where we were planning to eat dinner in Hilo, they saved us the trip by pointing out that the restaurant was closed for remodeling. Not only did they give us suggestions for other places, they printed out maps AND how to return to Kona afterward.
I just loved their personal interest in each guest. They take time to visit and learn just a little about you. Not too busy to be hospitable and genuine.
So why only four stars? The van ride to the Zipline platforms and back to Hilo is nasty! The road is not just a rural unpaved road — might be better that way. The road is one deep pothole after another in a 20 – 25 minute spread of rocks, with many high humps of dirt. And the driver barely slows down.
The drive didn’t bother me; I considered it to be part of the adventure, the van itself had comfortable seats and was well air conditioned. I was never concerned about safety during the drive. But I don’t believe that the rough ride is predictable for guests that would take this seriously. My husband can’t stand riding in my old suv and I knew he was seething with every bump. I’m not sure if the road should be leveled out or if the advance information should be very clear about the severe rockiness of the drive. It’s a farm road on which access is granted for the vans. I’m surprised that those vans aren’t 4WD. And that the tires don’t get replaced daily.
Great staff! Great Zipline adventure!

We booked this tour in conjunction with a helicopter tour through NCL. Our first tour guide was Emma. She was sweet, very informative, and we thoroughly enjoyed her. She, unfortunately, had a personal emergency and was replaced by Mark as our tour guide. This guy was obnoxious to say the very least. He shared her personal information with us; which is unprofessional. Not to mention he was loud, talked over us, and when I would mention that Emma had told us about some things, he would respond very rudely, Well, I don’t know WHAT Emma told you. We felt rushed with him and it was only 4 of us on the tour (myself, my husband, and an elderly couple). When we visited the rainforest & waterfall that we could «swim» up to, it was down a steep hill, The other lady in our group couldn’t make it down. When going back to the truck, he walked in front of us, never mind the fact that the older couple was having difficulty walking on the rocky path. By the way, this tour should not encourage people to wear a swimsuit. You have a ton of large rocks to cross before you can get to the part where the waterfall is to swim. None of us swam. Had we had him initially, I would have given this tour one star. Note to the owner: If your people lack customer service and basic people skills, these tours will be rated low.

We went on the «Volcano By Night» adventure with Grant, our awesome guide. Don’t let the title fool you, it’s more than a «night» adventure. Grant picked us up at the King Kemehameha Marriott in Kona at 10:00 AM. We made several fun stops, including lunch, on our way to Kilauea. When we got to Kilauea, Grant took us on several adventures at the volcano before dinner at 5:00. Then more exploring including watching the volcano erupt at night. Grant was fantastic! His knowledge was exceptional about Kilauea and all the volcanic activity of Hawaii plus Hawaiian culture and even coffee making when he took us on a tour of the Kona Joe Coffee Farm. The adventure took about 11 – 12 hours and does involve some mild hiking.

We got to see many things on this tour. Our tour guide, Jessica, was very friendly, personable, and knowledgable. Throughout the trip she was very engaging and would point out things along our drive to each destination. First she took us to the Pahoa black sand beach. It’s amazing to see black sand and the deep, rich blue water. Next we stopped briefly at the Green Painted Church before heading to the Volcanoes National Park. We got to see the huge crater and Thurston lava tube. We had dinner at the Volcano House; the food was mediocre, but the view from the restaurant was great. There were glass windows overlooking the large crater. We got to see some steam vents and then finished the tour by the Jaggar Museum. We waited until after the sunset and got to see the glowing lava from a distance. Jessica was patient and nice about letting us take our time.
Overall it was a great tour. I learned a lot and had a good time.

This is honest opinion for bus seats. We were very disappointed in seats of their new red vans. I am 6 ft. tall and 195 lb. I could no seat without hitting my knees to front seats. We were picked up at last stop so we were in back rows. Airlines have more room. After paying $ 176 for 11 hour day trip to volcano tour, we were miserable. I was hoping for much better wider seats. One star for this reason.

Booked with Kapohokine via the resort we were staying at while in Kona. For a first time visitor to the Big Island, this was the one big activity worth doing/​taking. I mean to be able to explore the Kona coffee belt, to the southern most town and bakery in the United States, to the black sand beach, the volcanos lava flow and path of destruction from years past, everything in between, to being on top of an active volcano called Kilauea… c’mon now that is COOL!!!
Our guide Marcus was excellent, provided tons of information, easy going, professional, safety minded, etc. and the list goes on. At the end of our tour, he even provided front door drop off at the condo we were staying at!!!
The travel van was clean, only carried 13 plus our guide, so it was very comfortable to ride and take in all the scenery without being limited by a bunch of other tour passengers. Snacks, refreshments, lunch and dinner all provided in the cost. Dinner at the Volcano House in the park we thought was awesome… get the Mahi Mahi dish. Cocktails and dessert are on your own as it was not part of the dinner, but that was no big deal.
The grand finale was at the Jagger Museum where you get a closer look at Kilauea and get to watch as the sun drops and the glow begins to show itself. A lot of other tourist there viewing as well, but all you have to do is inch your way in and hold your cameras high and you’ll take some great pics.
I can say like many others last night that we all stood on top of an active volcano!!! Since this island is so BIG, there will be a return trip and when it comes around, I’m thinking Helicopter tour (doors off of course), and Zip line with who else… Kapohokine Adventures!!!

We just visited the Big Island for the 1^st time.
Only wanted to do one tour for our 5-​day stay.
Chose the Kona Evening Volcano Explorer tour with KapohoKine & we chose well.
Rich, our guide, was awesome!
So funny & personable. We had a great group & he was the reason we all got along so well.
It’s a long day, but you see & do so much.
From visiting the Kona coffee farm to the black sand beach with sea turtles (so cute!) to the hike & educational walk through the rainforest to seeing Kilauea volcano at night (very cool)
Highly recommend for anyone who wants a great 1-​day lesson on what’s worth seeing/​knowing about the Big Island.

Carl is an awesome tour guide, he is full of knowledge and loves what he does! I wish we had him as our personal tour guide for our whole Hawaii trip, so this review is no reflection on him! I wish we had a way to have a redo with him on the active volcano tour.
We did the volcano by night tour, but really wanted to do the active volcano tour, but were told we weren’t guaranteed to go if we booked it because it barely fills up, so we figured the volcano by night would still be worth it and we knew we would go
After I got home though I feel like I wasted a day in paradise stuck in a van with no control of what we wanted to do. It was nice seeing Kona Joes, but we spent more time here then doing any single volcano activity it seems like. I feel cheated out of my money because we barely hiked or did anything volcano related. We saw the lava tube, but that hike wasn’t even a half mile long. The steam vents were also cool, but again this wasn’t even a rocks throw from where we parked. We finished at the Jäger Museum which was cool too.
The reason why I’m frustrated with my experience was all this stuff is FREE, and the reason why we took a tour was to have a guide to hike with and show us a true adventure. Carl was restricted on what he could do with my wife and I, which I feel is a shame because he knows so much cool stuff about the island that he could only talk about, not show us. Again this is no reflection on Carl, but how this tour is marketed. I loved the knowledge he provided as he narrated, but I wanted an adventure more than a history lesson.
I should have just driven there and did all the FREE tours myself and found my own adventure. They should label the volcano by night tour for those who are with children, elderly or lazy. For $ 180 per person this trip was a rip off and if you are looking for an adventure this tour is NOT for you.
Carl if you read this I hope you find a way to make your own company and do it right instead of going by a cookie cutter tour that you have to do. Your love for nature really shows and I believe you should buy that farm down here and make your own adventure company. I think it would be a huge success!

Did a volcano tour with tour guide Grant. It was a spectacular experience and amazing views. Our tour guide is fantastic, he is funny, friendly, and knowledge. We went to Joe’s coffee farm where we had sqndwich lunch. Then we went to a bakery, black sand beach, and then to volcano national park where we hike trails, enter lava tube, feel steam vent air, dinner at a fabulous hotel there, museum, and then view the volcano crater at night glowing bright red.
