Don’t let the location of this place fool you! The food here is superb! Portions are large. The service is great! The prices can’t be beat! The servers are quiet, but attentive and helpful. This is a must try for all Mexican food lovers!

I was so encouraged when I saw an average 4-star review for this spot. I guess I didn’t order the right thing. But if a place rates 4 or 5 stars, I shouldn’t have to order the«right» thing, should I? Shouldn’t pretty much everything BE the right thing? In one word, bland. The pre-meal chips and salsa were tasty, the salsa flavorful if a little spicy… and that’s where it ended. I don’t even like spicy food, really, and I was adding hot sauce to my lunch. The chicken flautas had no seasoning, though the chicken itself was juicy white meat cuts. The beef soft taco didn’t really resemble beef visually or in flavor. I’m still not sure what that was, actually. No flavor to the rice, no flavor to the beans. It was just something to fill me, that’s about it. Good service, a bit timid but attentive… but I don’t think I’ll be back.

Had a Burrito for lunch here. The shredded beef burrito was good, not great. A little spicy. Price was good. $ 6 with beans & rice. But they wanted $ 2 for sour crème. My friend got the Wet Chicken Burrito & was not at all impressed. It was $ 6.99. It was all white meat but he thought it was very bland.

Unfortunately, I did not get to eat here. I wanted to. Although, the prices seemed a bit high. My boyfriend and I walked in after walking through the trashy parking lot that boasted the most outrageous drunk dancing Mexican man in some weird costume. Upon entering, we were ignored and no one was around. However, we could hear people chatting and laughing in the kitchen. Tolerated a few minutes of that and then left. Went to La Guanaquita instead.

EDIT: They are now closed. :( Best flautas I’ve been able to find in the metro Portland area. I have been desperate to find a Mexican place like this since moving away from Texas, and now every time we get the craving, we’re willing to make the 40 minute drive from the southeast to go get great food. On my first visit, I admit I got giddily excited when I saw their rice had peas in it. This is the first rice I’ve had anywhere that tasted similar to the kind of rice my Mexican mother would make at home. The service is great, too. They are very good with special requests. It’s a real pain hating cilantro but loving Mexican food, but they accommodate.

There are a number of Mexican restaurants in Hillsboro, so there’s no excuse to open one unless you’re able to face the competition. California transplant here; I grew up on Mexican food. I loved this place — Everything tastes homemade. I really enjoyed the chicken gorditas. The prices are reasonable, the service is warm — In my view, it’s worth the drive from Portland to come here.

love this place and come here a lot! Their chicken fajitas are great with the sweet sauce and they have some of the best home made salsa and corn tortillas I’ve had!

At the suggestions from the other Unilocalers, I came here after work to get my mole on!(mole– chicken smothered with a Mexican chile chocolate). Boyyyy was I disappointed. $ 10.99 for mole didn’t look terribly expensive on the menu, but once I got my dish, I knew it was a rip off. Usually I never finish half of what I order at Mexican restaurants because they give you a ridiculous amount… but this time it was different. I finished my mole, beans &rice with room in my stomach to spare. And it’s wasn’t even that good. the chicken was overcooked and the sauce was too oily & thick. The only thing they did get right was adding the right amount of spice to the Abuelita chocolate so it wasn’t sweet. Oddly, the best mole I’ve had in Oregon so far is in McMinnville(and the best mole I ever had came from San Diego of course ;]). I don’t want to brave another 1.5 hr drive for a good chicken mole fix, so Hillsboro, I haven’t given up on you yet!

Delicious food, great atmosphere, and good mole equal one happy girl! We needed a new place to go on Cinco De Mayo so we decided to try this little spot. The place was DEAD, but the service was great. I had the chicken with brown mole and it was pretty tasty, though a little oily. My margarita on the rocks was super and went down real nice. The beans weren’t too shabby either. I’ve recommended this place to friends and some went to check it out. The only complaint I’ve heard from them is that the lady kept speaking to my friend in Spanish when she doesn’t understand a word of it. *shrug* PS. They have a coupon in the Entertainment book. Woot!

This is one of the best Mexican restaurants in all of Oregon. They do a nice job of keeping true to authentic ingredients without trying to go gourmet on you. The one thing that really sticks out to me in my memories of this places are the cheeses… like queso fresco and just staying true to the food of Michoacan. It’s well worth the trip… and prices are reasonable.

I went to this restaurant for lunch. The service was great and the server was friendly. They serve you chips like your typical mexican restaurant and have wait staff. This place is a step up from the taquerias in the area. The food was very authentic and good. They even make their own corn tortillas. The prices were typical for a mexican restaurant with some dishes over $ 10. I ordered the chicken fajitas for $ 7.99. They gave me a ton of food. The place was somewhat clean and basic inside. Nothing fancy. There is plenty of parking available in the lot. Their last health inspection on sept ’08 had a score of 75 out of 100. Not a good score since i understand under 70 percent is failing. I will probably go back, but i’ll check their latest health inspection first to see if they’ve improved.

For a California transplant who is continually frustrated by the lack of good, simple Mexican food in the Portland area, La Flor is a godsend. Albeit, a godsend that takes 25 minutes to drive to, but still, a few bites of the shredded lettuce-covered enchiladas suizas(cheese) and I’ve already forgotten the four dollars of gas it cost to get here. Don’t go expecting anything fancy. This is not Tacqueria Nueve, DF or Autentica and the prices and menu are refreshingly free of pretension. The restaurant is next to a laundromat in a strip mall that feels, well, stripped. On the plus side, where else in Oregon can you eat Mexican food while genuine Mexican street vendors walk by selling balloons, watches and whatever else they fancy? The interior is pretty blah, with tile floors, potted plants and an assortment of Mexican signs. I’ve never been at night but by the funky ceiling disco lights I’m guessing they host some crazy parties. On the food side, all the enchiladas are can’t miss. The chile relleno is relleno of goodness and the various plates are simple but tasty. The service can bog down but the women who work here are as nice as they can be and do a good job making a city gringo feel at home.
