Our wellness program utilizes acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine as well as tools, techniques and products from all corners of the world to help you succeed in achieving your health and wellness goals, from pain relief to more ambitious lifestyle changes. I have personally investigated many of these, always on the lookout for the best quality available on the market. I have used many of them with patients and customers as well as myself and my family over thirty years that I have been in practice.

Patients come mainly for pain relief, stress, anxiety, depression, allergies & smoking, but also for digestive, respiratory, immune and OBGYN problems like fertility, breech & induction

Acupuncture — with or without electrical stimulation

Far-​infrared heat therapy — promotes healing and ‘normalizes biological processes’.

Magnetic devices — relieve pain & promote healing, in office & for home use

Chi Machine — for relaxation, energy circulation, raising blood oxygen & pain relief, among other things

Gua sha — is a friction technique often providing dramatic and immediate relief of pain

Cupping– application of plastic or glass cups to relieve pain, improve flexibility and heal injuries

Shiatsu massage — on stiff, painful areas like neck, and hands, feet & face for relaxation.

Reiki — used sometimes during acupuncture treatment .

Liniments, creams & essential oils — applied on skin for healing & stress relief

History

Established in 1994.

After graduating from the New England School of Acupuncture, America’s oldest, in 1983, and prior to returning home to Oregon, I worked in private practice as well as a hospital pain and stress clinic and two drug detox clinics in Boston.

Columbia Acupuncture was founded in 1994 with offices in Hillsboro and Scappoose, Oregon. We were the first practice of Oriental Medicine in Columbia County and we are the longest running practice in western Washington County, serving clients from the Greater Portland area to the coast, as well as supplying herbs, supplements and therapeutic devices to customers across the US and Canada, for over twenty years.

We have witnessed the growth of acupuncture from my one room school in Boston in 1981, with only one book in English, to a rapidly growing profession with schools across the country, thousands of practitioners nationwide, insurance coverage, hospital privileges and a growing population of satisfied patients living better lives naturally.

Jim M.

Business Owner

Jim Martin, licensed acupuncturist, offers Chinese Medicine and a variety of related natural healing services and products. He studied in Japan and at the New England School of Acupuncture, with specialized training at the Pain and Stress Clinic of the Shattuck Hospital and the Fenway Clinic drug detox program in Boston. He taught Shiatsu massage and Chinese medicine at Interface Foundation, the Massage School of New England, and Tufts University and Portland Community College. He earned National Acupuncture certification in 1985 and his Oregon license in 1988. His unique perspective on healing combines education in engineering, years of international travel and study including time with Native American and Asian healers and teachers, and study in Reiki and Therapeutic Touch in addition to acupuncture and herbal training. He lives with his wife Bevi and daughter Tara Joy in Hillsboro, Oregon.
