History
Established in 1996.
Sunrise Academy was inaugurated as the first full-time chartered Islamic school in central Ohio in 1996. The school is located in Hilliard, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. Sunrise Academy provides academic programs for students in Pre-K through 8th grade.
Sunrise Academy currently has over 400 students from over thirty different countries enrolled for the current academic school year. We believe our diversity is one of our greatest strengths.
Our highly qualified and talented staff comes from a variety of rich cultural backgrounds. Their commitment to the Sunrise Academy mission gives them the role of active agents in the process of academic excellence. All of our teachers are licensed or certified to teach in Ohio with many holding masters degrees.
Meet the Manager
Eugene G.
Manager
Br. Eugene Greenfield has been the Head of School and Principal since July 2013. A native of Columbus, Ohio, he graduated from Northland High School. He attended Miami University in Oxford, Ohio and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and African-American studies. He later went on to complete a Master of Education degree from Antioch University as well as a Master of Business Administration from Ohio Dominican University.
Before coming to Sunrise Academy, Br. Eugene served as a history and special education teacher, curriculum coordinator, assistant principal and principal for Focus on Collective Integrity Academy and principal for Focus Learning Academy of Northern Columbus.
Br. Eugene embraced Islam as a way of life when he was 22 years old, shortly after leaving Miami University. It was because of the example of the Prophet (saw) as a teacher and educator that he decided to dedicate his life to the education of youth.
