Solid work at good prices. Great communication, work was quoted accurately and if an issue arose, I was notified right away before any change to the original work was done. Friendly front office too. Will use D & R in the future.

I always feel like I am in good hands when my car is in for service at D & R. I appreciate their care and attention to detail, and they are quite good at explaining the reasons for various repairs and services.

Been going here for service for years, as my kids are now! Thorough problem evaluation followed by old school craftsman quality work at fair pricing.

I had a great experience here. I was on my way to see panda when I had a tire blowout while driving through Chicago. I called about a dozen repair shops, but D&R the only one that had the tire I needed. They stayed after close and rushed to make sure I was able to get back on the road in time to make the wedding.
The staff was friendly and even remembered my name months later when I called in to ask a question.

After hours I dropped my car off due to a problem that developed as I was driving. I called the next morning, explained my problem to Caleb and asked him to try to get the car fixed and out the door before days end. The car was ready before 5PM that day — repaired — at a much lower cost than I anticipated. I’ve been bringing our cars to D & R for years and have never been disappointed.

I’ve been bringing my cars here for years. They have found issues that my dealer has missed. Always impressed with their versatility in being able to repair Asian, Domestic and European vehicles. The staff is very professional, knowledgeable and helpful in deciding what repair are needed and what can be budgeted for future repais. Their prices are very competitive compared to dealerships. Loaners and free car washes are complimentary.

I trust D&R. They have always been honest, direct, friendly and prompt. The work is done on time and the prices are fair. Dan and the crew are 5-​star! Yay for local businesses like D&R!

Had my son’s (in college) 1996 «sled» towed to D&R for evaluation, and in this case its last rights.

I believe I’ve left a review before. D&R is the most professional, knowledgeable, and with very fair pricing on stunningly comprehensive analysis and repairs.
Customer service is likely the best in the broad consumer: business category. Rarely do I encounter the savvy, courteous, and patient experience I do with D&R. What they fix stays fixed, outstanding mechanical ability, and they provide «courtesy»: vehicles until your car is repaired.
Caleb fought tooth & nail with MaxCare to be certain everything which should be covered, was covered. Try and find a car service organization that will run block for you on warranty/​repairs? Remarkable.
All class. HIGHLY recommended: Dan, Caleb, or Gabe. Great people.

Living further away, I had stopped going to D&R. Since I can’t find anyone local that is as good, I called D&R again. As always, they delivered! Such great service, from the ease of setting the appointment, to the phone call outlining what steps they were taking. It’s so refreshing to have an auto repair facility that you know you can trust and is actually looking out for your best interest. I love that I can go in for an oil change/​tire rotation, and not be called with hundreds of dollars in «extras»!!

I used this repair shop to remediate my emission system after it failed the state mandated test. They were recommended in the booklet I was provided at the testing station. I was initially told it would probably be a few hundred dollars. The final price was over $ 600 which I would been fine with if it would have passed inspection. They said that it would not pass inspection unless an additional $ 1500 of work was done to the car. I did not believe that to be the case so I took it to a Mercedes-​Benz authorized repair shop and they ran their diagnostics and said that the car would pass inspection. I got the car tested again and it passed without the additional work that this shop recommended. I would not recommend them to anyone. Trust is paramount when dealing with a mechanic because of the asymmetry of information present. I have no trust in this group. Buyer be warned!!!

We’ve done quick job places and dealerships in the past but the best service, quality and price hands down is D & R Autoworks. The customer service is always top notch and if it’s going to take a day or more they always have a courtesy car ready for me. Wouldn’t trust my vehicles to any other place on the North Shore.

Came in with my car shaking when I applied the brakes. Had an early morning meeting three hours away. Gabe test drove my car, diagnosed and fixed within 1.5 hrs. Great overall experience.

OIl change and tire rotation for my 2011 Bmw was fantastic. They have a few BMW techs that apparantly love the marque and are attentive to detail. Ask for Jeff he will do you right and wash your car by hand!

I brought my car to D&R Auto to have a lot of work done. They fixed my shakey brakes and some worn down hardware. The total seemed a little steep, costing me nearly $ 700, which at the time seemed reasonable considering all the work that needed to be done. Also, they drove me to work and let me drive a loaner car while they worked on my car. At the time, I was very pleased with the services they offered.
A few months later, my brakes began to shake again. I remembered that D&R offered a warranty on their services so I brought my car in. They claimed that my brakes were bad due to wear and they would not be covered under the warranty. Seeing as how I have never needed my brakes to be repaired that frequently, their claim seemed shady. They stated that i needed front and back brake pads and rotors, new hardware, and they suggested replacing my wiper blades. All of this was estimated to cost me another $ 700

Thankfully, I got another opinion from a different auto shop, Javier’s Garage; a place that was recommended to me by a good friend. Javier said my brake pads were brand new and the only problem was the front rotors. Also, there was loose hardware that needed replacement. He threw in an oil change and rotated my tires for a grand total of $ 240! That’s $ 460 that Javier’s Garage saved me! $ 460! Now, my car runs beautifully!
The moral of my story: if you don’t mind throwing away money, go to D&R. They get one star, simply because they offer transportation while they have your car. If you are looking for quality, HONEST service, do yourselves a favor and check out Javier’s Garage in Highwood!

Extremely disappointed… They gave us an estimate of $ 1000. We ended up with 2 separate bills totaling 1700.00. They knew the car had to be available for our son going back to school at Loyola in New Orleans and specifically told them the AC had to be fixed and we took advantage of a special they were offering for a oil change and alignment fluids etc. Plus we asked if they could they please check out the Sun Roof… they found other issues and we gladly said yes to some major issues wrong with the Nissan Sentra. picked up the car the next day. They had 18 hours. We paid the first bill for 1100 and change… my husband asked «Did you get a chance to look at the sun roof». Response was «No…it needs a motor». My husbands response was «You just told me you didn’t look at it». Drove the car home… Blowing hot air! We went back and for another $ 500.we drove home with cold air… No Sun Roof… our Son googled Sun Roofs on the Nissan Sentra… went out hit a restart switch and VOILA… Sun Roof works! 8÷27÷2014. Do not use these guys

D&R Autoworks have been the preferred repair and maintenance shop for my car, and those of my family, for years. They’re fast, courteous, and have always done an exceptional job when it comes to working on our cars. I’ve had numerous fair-​to-​poor experiences with local dealerships, and have had D&R fix what they goofed. With rare exception, I only trust taking my car to D&R for service. Their prices are very reasonable for the caliber of service they provide. Their new location is far more accessible, and seems to allow them to complete service quicker. I heartily recommend D&R Autoworks to all of my peers.

I’ve been taking my Mini Cooper S (and be for that, my Honda Accord) for several years now and they have always done me right. They’ve worked well with my extended warranty program during my post dealer warranty days– even when my engine died and needed to be replaced! I go there for everything since they keep all the records in one place so when I go to sell (which will be hopefully soon… for another Mini), I’ll be able to hand the records over to the next owner.
Frankly, if I can make the trip to Highland Park from Lincoln Park for their service, so can you. They may not be the cheapest, but they won’t let you down either. Oh yeah, and the only reason why I can leave my car up there is cause of the free loaners.

On my way to work one day, I heard the loud squealing of a belt, and then a poof of smoke rise up from my car. RATS! This was not good. I pulled over to the side of the road, and lifted the hood to find that my AC compressor belt was broken, and curled up in a pretty little swirl. In the case that I may somehow do further damage to my little lemon, I called in a tow and took her to D&R.
AAA had told me that these guys would give me an estimate in an hour. When I got there, I was told it *might* be later that afternoon, or possibly the next morning… What? But the lovely gentleman (I don’t know his name) did look at it, surmising that my AC compressor had blown… Google Queen that I am, I found a quick-​fix that would allow me to utilize my power steering without replacing that super-​expensive AC compressor; so I showed it to the lovely gentleman (L.G.). He said, «hey, I’ll make a note of that — it could be an option.» He was open to suggestion! This is not like any mechanic’s I’VE ever been to…
Fast-​forward to later that afternoon… They still haven’t had a chance to look at my car, and so I picked it up to bring it to a less-​busy establishment. The L.G. apologized again, and said, «but, hey! You can still drive it, you just won’t have power steering. AND you don’t have to use that fix you found — since the AC pulley is free-​spinning, you can just get a new belt (disconnect the AC power), drive with power steering again, and fix the AC compressor later.» What a life-​saver!
So, I went over to a Car-​X, fought with the mechanic there to explain this was NOT a crazy suggestion, and he did it — new belt and all. He was incredulous that it worked, but I am now driving with power steering again, and I can fix that über-​pricey AC compressor when I’m good and ready.
So, even though I didn’t give D&R a red cent, they still gave me a great solution, and were awesomely helpful! Thanks, L.G. (No wonder you’re so damn busy!)

I just moved to the Highland Park area and am so glad I found D&R straight away! The facility has a nice professional feel (I especially like the open garages — no «behind the scenes» work here!) I came in for an oil change and ended up having to replace an engine filter as well. The mechanic came to me personally, showed me my current filter vs. a new filter and explained the issues to me instead of offering the typical «You need a new X» with no explanation (you know what I mean, fellow car-​challenged folk!) To top everything off, they hand washed my car and sent me home feeling spiffy. I think I’ve found my new shop!
