History

Established in 2003.

Our company was formed in 2003 but together, our inspectors, David Bunker and Jeff Nathan, have over 45 years experience inspecting homes on the North Shore. We are a full service home inspection company, providing general home inspections along with radon testing and termite inspections. Fully licensed by the State of Illinois.

Business Owner

Jeff grew up in Highland Park. After college (University of Colorado) Jeff worked in basement construction in Boulder and then as an electrician in Yellowstone Park. Jeff started his home inspection business in 1988 and has been going strong ever since. In 2003 he partnered with David Bunker and formed Building Inspectors Consortium Inc. In the last 27 years, Jeff and David estimate that they have inspected over 12,000 homes in the Chicago area. They have walked and commented on over 9,000 roofs, opened 14,000 electrical panels and looked at more than 15,000 furnaces.

Jeff is on the board of Community Partners for Affordable Housing in Highland Park, Lake Forest and Evanston.

Jeff’s wife, Lori, is a 7th grade language arts teacher in Waukegan.

What a fantastic and well thought-​out inspection. Jeff Nathan is as good as it gets. I was looking at buying a two-​on-​a-​lot property in Highwood, and he ended up writing two separate reports, one for each building.
Jeff has an astute eye for building defects, and he saved me a lot of money by identifying problems that I wouldn’t have seen during the inspection phase before I committed to the house deal. We’ll see how the sellers handle this new information! Depending on the result, he either won me some concessions or saved me from a bad deal.
He’s also done inspections for my cousins who ended up buying houses in Highwood.
All in all, very pleased with Jeff.

Jeff Nathan spent around 4 – 5 hours inspecting our 100 year old, 3500 sq ft house, and knew what to check for a house that age. He explained things very clearly, and we were able to learn a lot from him. He sent over a thorough report a few hours after he completed the inspection. Our inspection was in May 2013, and since then, we have contacted him a few times with some miscellaneous questions, and he was always responsive and helpful. Very professional and great to work with.

I’ve worked with two other inspectors and the difference between Jeff and the others is staggering. The one inspector was done in about an hour. The other inspector worked for several hours but still missed several things. Jeff knows what to look for and takes the time to look for them. I’ve read books on home inspection so I know he’s really thorough. Plus he’s also refreshingly honest and very approachable, which makes him a pleasure to work with. His report was key on a property that had more issues than we thought. Reasonable fees too!

As this was my wife and my first home purchase, we asked a friend of ours who is a contractor to tag along to our home inspection with Jeff of Building Inspectors Consortium just to get a second opinion. Not only was Jeff totally professional but our friend the contractor was absolutely impressed with his attention to detail and his concern that we got the best bang for our buck in our home purchase. In fact, we ended up not going with the house he inspected due to the number of problems he found… however, we hired him again to inspect a different house about a month later, which he did just as thorough of a job with. Thanks Jeff!

Jeff really knows his stuff. I was not available for the inspection on my new home, so my mother ended up going with my real estate agent. According to both my mother and my Realtor they had nothing but great things to say about him. He answered all of their questions verified that everything was good to go and e-​mailed me a report within hours of the inspection. I highly recommend Jeff and his work. He did an outstanding and highly professional job on our inspection. In addition to completing the requirements for the process, he took me around the home and helped explain in detail how certain systems worked, the key issues for future maintenance and repairs, and codes /​regulations that impacted them. Since the house was built in 1915, these were VERY important details. Jeff is personable, friendly and very respectful — he took my questions seriously and made sure that I fully understood his answers and their implictations. He was a pleasure to work with — and I have since discovered his rates were much more reasonable than other inspectors that friends of mine used who did NOT get the same level of service and attention that I received.
