Town of Woodbury

This town and village in Orange County, New York, is now best known for Woodbury Commons, one of the largest premium outlet malls in the United States. It is slightly more than an hour’s drive from New York City – when there is no traffic. Although most visitors don’t make it to the area surrounding the mall, you should know that Woodbury is literally surrounded by State Parks, most notably Harriman State Park, West Point and the Storm King Arts Center. There are also numerous lakes and streams, and creeks. In the first half of the Twentieth Century, the area was a summer destination for the New York City elite, and eventually was dotted with bungalow colonies – some of which are still in use. Most people who explore Woodbury and surrounding towns can’t believe a place so bucolic is only 50 miles north of NYC
