Robinwood Kennel

I love Robinwood Kennel. They have always taken great care of my dog. I use this kennel every time I go on vacation. They exercise the dogs regularly and I have never had a problem. The kennels are heated and have additional outdoor spaces for the dogs to go to the bathroom and play.

I really really tried to like Robinwood and have given it several shots, but after our last visit I don’t know if I’ll return. The few positives are that they usually can take my two dogs on short notice and the price is probably the lowest you will find in the area. However, the smell of kennel is awful and I always end up throwing away blankets I brought for the dogs. They also get an immediate bath when we arrive home. The owners do live on sight, but my biggest issue is that when I picked up my dogs after Thanksgiving they both had some type of scratch/​injury. My little guy had a large scab on the top of his nose and my other dog had a scratch on her lower leg that was bleeding.

I have taken my two dogs to this location on several occasions. While the cost can’t be beat, the actual service is mediocre. The gentleman that runs the facility seems like a nice enough guy, but he always gives the impression that it’s a hassle for him to take care of the dogs. I don’t feel welcome there anymore (even after using them greater than 6 times). I will no longer be using Robin Wood kennel and will instead be looking for a place that actually gives some respect.

I would definitely recommend Robinwood Kennel. Our two dogs, both rescues, have enjoyed many stays there, and they have always been well cared-​for.
We sadly lost one of our babies last Spring. They were (are) both, admittedly a bit spoiled (we bring their food, both kibble and canned, medications — often for our older guy who had health problems, and bones and toys as well as their blankets). The owners keep track of all of these items, and check to make sure the food containers are labelled as to «whose is whose» — did I mention these are pampered pets? Also, the medication directions are always double-​checked. I feel confident that they will be looked after, as the owners live on the premises. They also make sure that our vet’s phone numbers and our cell phone numbers are handy.
We are looking forward to another trip soon, the first one «solo» for our little female. She may miss her buddy, but I feel sure the familiarity of the surroundings at Robinwood will be home-​like for her. It’s less stressful to «send them off to camp» when you know that caring dog-​lovers are there with them. We can relax and enjoy our vacation!
The location is very convenient for us, right off of I-​471 near NKU. The hours — availability of picking up or dropping off your pet on Sunday afternoon, for example, meet our needs for flexibility. I haven’t found this sort of flexibility with other kennels. As mentioned in a previous review, the prices are fair. Most importantly of all, peace of mind is priceless!

I agree with the revious review, I really wanted to like Robinwood.
I’ve taken my dog here twice and may take her back. Here are the pros and cons in a nutshell.
Pros:
— Location is good
— Owners live on site and seem to genuinely care for the animals
— Prices are fair, $ 19 for my dog
— They allowed me to drop my dog off early becaus of a 9am flight.
Cons:
— My dog left here with diarrhea… not the fault of the kennel perhaps, but kennels usually never stress her out.
— The buildings are not cooled in the summer (probably my biggest con).
— After a four night stay, my dog need a bath because of a urine smell… just not something I want to look forward to each time I pick her up.
Overall, I can probably recommend.

I really wanted to like Robinwood Kennel. It’s a family owned business and located near my house. But, after a recent experience with boarding our 2 dogs there, I won’t be back.
The facilities have 5×15 runs with ¹⁄₃ of the run indoors and ²⁄₃ outdoors and they shut the door in between at night. This seemed like plenty of space for my 2 dogs to share and with the option to add daily walks for a nominal charge, that was the main reason I chose this place. The actual building the runs are in is functional, but definitely has the feel of an animal shelter (smelly, noisy, chain link, concrete, etc.).
So my issues with this place are as follows: 1) despite bringing a glass storage container for the wet food, they just stuck the whole can in the fridge uncovered, 2) our puppy had several scratches on one of his hind legs when we picked him up – this could have happened on a walk or have been accidentally self-​inflicted, but I just don’t like that it happened there, 3) and the biggie – they got fleas there! Had to do multiple baths, throw away bedding, etc.
I’m still giving 2 stars vs. 1 because I think they are good people who really do try to take good care of the dogs, but I just don’t think it’s appropriate for (admittedly pampered) indoor pets.
