Open Cupboard Food Pantry Thrift Shop

Only choosing one star because Unilocal doesn’t have an option for 0 stars! We visited this Saturday (first warm day all year!). We arrived around 1:20pm in the afternoon. Which should have been high tide for thrift shopping! However, upon entering the store, this snippy woman working the counter (owner Ann?) proclaimed the store was closed and with a wag of her finger pointed us towards the door. Upon my asking «really?» she replied with «yes didn’t you read the sign?» again she was nearly yelling at three potential customers to leave her store because they were «closed». Her behavior was shocking, rude, off putting, and downright painful. Won’t be visiting again, will be spreading the word to my friends. It’s sad that this is not just a bad experience for the shopper but for the people the store is supposed to help. Perhaps, Ann will learn how to run a business and support her community in a friendly and productive manner. One place to start would be to open her store past 1pm on a weekend! My condolences to anyone who has to work with her or deal with her on a regular basis.

They do good work here to help the hungry in the area. The store part of the pantry is really nice. However, the obnoxious signs all over the place such as, «You break it you bought it» and «No cell phones» and reminders that you are under surveillance is annoying. It’s a thrift shop. All of the stuff in the store was donated to them, so the woman Ann who runs it could lighten up a little. Whenever she is in the store, you can feel the mood change as she yells at everyone. Not the most pleasant of places to browse around sometimes.
That being said, it has a nice selection of clothing and household items, glassware and estate jewelry. It is all neatly arranged and they don’t put a lot of junk out. It’s worth a trip to go in and see what they have. You never know what you may find and it all goes to a great cause.
