Shayna Turk’s Academy of Rising STARS is a children’s musical theater camp designed to provide young children, no matter their ability or age, the opportunity to perform in a theatrical production. Each role is carefully assigned to mirror each child’s potential. Regardless if a child has or has not been in a STARS production in the past, they will be considered for all roles. Many younger kinds do not get the opportunity to perform large roles in productions, which most can handle with practice and dedication. Thus, STARS mission became to provide that unmet need to the community.

When Shayna, the founder and director, created the camp in 2003, her intention was to give children the experience of singing on stage and to have more than a few lines in a musical. Over the years we have found that although children experience the thrill of performance, their self-​confidence blossoms with each production. For many children, STARS is their first musical theater experience, and subsequently, they begin the experience shy and hesitant. However, after the session, every child has grown, and for those who could barely project a sentence during auditions, perform with confidence in front of a live audience.

History

Established in 2003.

STARS began with the intention of teaching younger children the necessary skills to perform on stage while helping boost their confidence simultaneously. However, over the years this camp has become so much more.

In 2003, at the age of eleven, producing director and owner, Shayna Turk decided to start her own drama camp. Producing over 20 musicals in the past 10 years, STARS has brought musical theater to hundreds of children.

Shayna Turk, the producing director and founder of STARS began the program in 2003. With the intention of teaching younger children the necessary skills to perform on stage, and helping boost self-​confidence, over the past 11 years, she has brought musical theater to the local community.

After performing in more than twenty-​five musicals as a young child, Shayna began her own production company which would give children, no matter their age or ability, the chance to perform in a full musical production.
