My very handsome almost 7 y/o son wears glasses. He is the only one in our family that does. He needs to wear glasses 100% of the time, other than sleeping, of course. So, when swim lessons came along this summer I assumed he would just learn with his glasses on. I had no idea prescription swim goggles even existed! I felt so bad about this. After the swim coach informed me, I was on my mission. His usual Ophthalmologist ‘s office doesn’t carry the goggles. I searched online and came across Optics Direct. This was 1 of only 2 places I found that could actually cutomized the goggles. Most just sold some sort of pre-made ‘script goggle, kinda like the reading glasses at the convenience store. I called up and spoke with Barry. He was very helpful and understanding. I explained that my son has a very special ‘script and he was already 3 weeks into his lessons and I wanted him to be able to finish out the last four weeks with the goggles. After being quoted the price, I was able to catch my breath after he explained how the goggles work. I was relieved to find out that the way the goggles are made allows me to only have to upgrade the ‘script part of the goggles, which is a little compartment that holds the lenses. The actual goggles only cost $ 85. I shouldn’t have to replace that part for years. My son has not kept the same ‘script for longer than a year since he was 3 years old. It did sting a little to think it would cost $ 250 a year to have swim goggles. But, how could I say no? It was near the 4th of July and this was a difficult ‘script to fill. Normally this place can finish your order within 24 hrs. I wanted to have them before July 9th. Optics Direct totally came through for my kid. They were able to finish them and get them to me by the 6th! I forgot to take a picture, but I will. These are some funky lookin’ little goggles.
