Established in 2003.

Maude is a unique beauty boutique, committed to providing our clients with super fashionable hair, unique gifts and beauty products. We are one of the few Apprenticeship salon in the state. Education is a must! We have grow our Salon from 3 stylists to over thirteen. We are so proud of our staff and how talented they are. Maude is a Modern day Steel Magnolias… We provide a social environment where networking is a must. Maude knows someone who does everything. We look forward to having you become a part of our family. We are very excited to be a part of Historic Herndon Community.

Maude was established in 2003. Tina, Vanessa and Celeste are the owners of Maude… AKA Maude Mamas. What’s not to love about our jobs… we get to do fabulous hair, meet great people and work in a super fun environment. Yup… that is Maude. We feel very fortunate to of found our passion and made it a career. We have worked in the industry and with each other for over 15 years. Our love for the industry and craft is why we chose to become a Apprenticeship Salon. We believe there is nothing more rewarding than sharing your knowledge. Education has always been our priority. You can still see us on any given night rocking out some great hair. We LOVE our jobs and can’t wait to meet you:)

I spent $ 300 for a trim and barely noticeable purple streaks. They washed out in two days. I could have gotten a trim at The Hair Cuttery and went to Sally’s for bleach and purple hair dye to do it myself. Good thing they serve wine or I would have given this place 1 star. Waste of money.

*UPDATED REVIEW* after posting my previous review, one of the owners, Celeste, responded and offered to personally assist in tending to my hair issues. I decided to let my hair rest for a few months because it went through so much trauma. Just saw Celeste yesterday and she knew exactly what to do to bring my hair back to life again! I absolutely love my «rooty blonde» and all that she did to achieve the look I was going for originally. She was very pleasant to work with and didn’t make me feel uncomfortable or bad at all for complaining. Thanks Maude! Outstanding customer service.
Not very happy. Expressed that the next day to the stylist who offered to fix my hair but I’d rather go somewhere else, obviously now I’m nervous about going back to Maude. I would have preferred my $ 213 back, even just half of it back would have been nice. I went in asking for ashy roots and white ends (like the photo I showed to the stylist), left with blue/​gray hair.

I went to Maude after a stylist at another place did a sub-​par job haircut on my long layers. I asked the stylist, Alexis to add more movement, thin it out (I have very thick hair and lots of it) and asked for more layers. She did an EXCELLENT job! Alexis listened to what I wanted and didn’t want, I showed her pictures, and she understood the concept and followed through beautifully! We then went to darken my hair a bit more since over the summer I went blond and wanted to go back to my natural brunette but a bit richer. I did a demi perm color a few months ago and now it was fading and getting brassy. So we went darker, and although the color was beautiful, it was too dark for me and I came back the next day. I need to preface by saying, Alexis had assured me I can come back to fix anything that wasn’t perfectly how I wanted it. Because of this, I was confident we could get there even if it took a couple tries so I went for it. When I did came back, she listened to me intently, she did not rush me or make me feel bad or weird about coming back (some stylists make it very awkward!) So she, like an artist, figured out the best way to lighten the hair, using highlights and a toner and I left with a beautiful chocolate/​caramel color, a big smile on my face and a new favorite stylist!

Maude helped me out after my stylist at another salon cancelled on me last-​minute. They were able to squeeze me in for a cut & blowdry, and I came out looking great. I have thick, sometimes frizzy hair, but my stylist gave me exactly what I asked for– an easy cut that requires no extensive styling. It’s been over a month since I went in and my hair still looks great and is growing out beautifully. Thanks, Maude! You’ve earned my business.

A blind Edward Scissor Hands went to town on my hair. She cut 4x more than she was supposed to, despite me giving her a picture and stopping her a couple times through the haircut to ensure she kept my length in front. This is the worst hair cut I have ever received! I am embarrassed to even leave my house for work. She also colored it and apparently is color blind, it is very dark and brassy. The shade I was going for was much lighter. I have never wrote a negative review before but this was the worst experience ever. I was holding back tears and she said to me, «Well, sometimes hair looks longer in pictures.» …WTF?

I did weeks and weeks of research before deciding to try out Maude based on Unilocal reviews and other sources. I am extremely picky about my hair and Vanessa did not disappoint. I came to her with what others may have seen as a complicated request, (slightly angled LOB, lived sombre blonde highlights/​color a la Anh Co Tran’s LA based style.) I was nervous because I had read that this style could take up to 6 hours to process. Vanessa looked at all of the pictured I had gathered, asked good questions, and LISTENED very closely to what I had in mind. She really simplified what I was going for (ie. more manageable hair) hand painted the color in, and I am so pleased with the result! She even took me through a tutorial on beachy waves and when I asked what products she recommended, Vanessa did not push any products on me, but rather suggested what I might switch to once I was out of what I already had at home. The receptionist and assistant were kind and welcoming as well. The whole experience was comfortable relaxed and fun. I have been searching for a great hair salon in Northern Virginia for 3 ½ years since I moved here, and I believe I have finally found it.

I’ve been here twice and both times I was beyond impressed. The interior is just so adorable, and I love everything about it.
My first time, I got highlights and a cut by Vanessa. She was amazing, she knew exactly what to do with my over-​colored/​over-​processed mess of hair. She made me feel so pretty after having my first baby. She was extremely friendly, and gave me lots of great advice on a good cut/​color for me, and also how to maintain it. I also got a glass of white wine while I got pampered. Much needed.
Second time there I just got a cut by Tina. She was also super friendly. I just wanted to trim off the dead ends, but keep the same cut. She did exactly what I wanted! Some hair stylists don’t know the meaning of «trim». And then she gave my hair a nice little curl and recommended a conditioning treatment that I still use.
Both of them are their «seasoned crafters» (so most experienced), so they are very pricey. But when it comes to my hair, it’s worth it to pay a little extra. I suggest if you’re just getting a trim, maybe try out someone else to save some money. But when it comes to a new cut and color, they’re the way to go. (Not sure how Tina is with color, but I’m sure she’s just as good. But from experience, Vanessa did exactly what I wanted!)
They are my go-​to hair salon now :)

I’ve been going to Maude for about 2 years now, most recently today. Kristina does my hair and she’s great! There are a lot of things I love about Maude. I love the décor there. It’s got this funky retro vibe and is a nice change from the sterile/​institutional look that a lot of salons have. The stylists focus on you and your hair and not selling you products at the end. I’m not big into product and Kristina only recommends really simple stuff. I’m always pleased with my cuts and will continue to go back. I have a pretty simple do, but they have a wide array of services there, so check it out!

I had a complicated hair request (lighter and with pink ombré tips) so after hearing good things about Maude I gave it a shot. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is really fun. My stylist was such a sweetheart but unfortunately she didn’t understand what I was looking for and at the end of the appointment my hair looked the exact same as when I went in for the appointment. I was pretty disappointed but they offered to set me up with a different stylist next week so I decided to try again. Kristina was AMAZING and after talking to me for 5 minutes she completely understood what I wanted. She was so nice and talkative, which I love when I’m getting my hair done (who wants to sit for 3 hours in silence??). It turned out perfectly and even better– they did not charge me for this appointment. However, I made sure to tip her regardless because she was awesome. I’m beyond thrilled with my results and even though I’m moving in a few months, I will definitely try to squeeze another appointment in before I go!

I had a chronic sty problem for over a year and finally had to give up on wearing mascara and eyeliner. I had been researching other options and *thought* I wanted to try eyelash tint. I was in Maude having my hair done by Vanessa (side note: I am a Celeste lover, but due to a scheduling conflict I saw Vanessa, whom I also loved, but I cannot leave my Celeste!) and asked her about eyelash tint. She introduced me to Cienna, Maude’s on-​site esthetician, and we discussed options. She listened patiently. Seriously, she listened, she retained, she sympathized, and she responded with a recommendation based on her professional experience. She didn’t automatically respond with «yes, let’s do tint (because that’s what you want),» but instead recommended I go with lash extensions. I told her I wasn’t some Hollywood movie star and that seemed kinda extravagant for a girl like me.
I WAS WRONG! Lash extensions are the greatest thing ever. Cienna walked me through the process, made recommendations based on my lifestyle (I am big outdoorsy girl and I run a ton), and I listened. I then agreed to try it out and the rest is history. I LOVE THEM! I look like I’m wearing mascara and that’s prefect. She has different lash types, thicknesses, etc. Executive? Big party? Working it on the runway? She has the lashes for you! Beforehand she tests your skin to ensure you are not allergic to the adhesives. I have had no adverse effects, just happy giddy ones.
Cienna is sweet and efficient. She has a separate little room that has a soothing vibe to it and is quite relaxing (I almost fell asleep during my appointment). I get the Le Naturel, which is a half-​set of lashes. They make my eyes pop again. YEAH!
I know lash extensions aren’t a solution for everyone, but so far I am thrilled. Also, extensions are not cheap, but she offers packages you can purchase that provide savings.

Maude is awesome with tons of great hairstylists. I have been going to Celeste for many years now. She is super great!!! She knows EXACTLY what works for me. She recommends styles, cuts or color. She listens to what I do or don’t want. She is knowledgable of products and styles. She knows how to style hair. Other hairdressers I’ve gone to might know how to color and cut, but not style. She does it ALL!!! I have NEVER walked away unhappy.

Vanessa has been doing my hair for a quite a few years now. I’ve never been disappointed. She knows I am not someone who will be coming every 6 weeks for touch up cuts or color so she always makes sure to give me highlights that will look good growing out and a cut that won’t need constant maintenance!
I’ve recently started bringing my 6 year old daughter here. She’s seen both Nikki and Kristina and loved them both. Recently one of the assistants was kind enough to give her some cute, subtle pink highlights when she came with me. We didn’t even have an appointment for her but Vanessa found someone to do it.
As if all this wasn’t enough, I have to admit that I love supporting a small, female owned and operated business in historic downtown Herndon!

Vanessa is great. She an awesome master stylist and color specialist. Me and various family members have been going to her for over twenty years.
Having had my hair done previous by a celebrity stylist in LA…(you see him/​his salon on various tv reality shows) it is great to have the quality of workmanship right in my own back yard.
Love the booking tool application that lets one pick whom you want to do your hair based on ones own personal choices on the stylist and colorist skill set, price point and availability.

I had almost decided to give this place a ‘not so good’ review because of one receptionist who messed up my appointment and was not willing to accomodate me or even compensate despite her mistake.
I landed at the salon for my appt. only to realize that she had wrongly scheduled it for 3 weeks later. When she did not give me any option, i decided to reschedule my appt with a different stylist and come back the next day (And this was the very first time i had stepped into the salon).
When i got there for my appt the next day, the receptionist was different, i told her everything that had happened with the earlier receptionist and she was shocked to hear about it. She was very apologetic and couldn’t believe my first experience with the salon wasn’t a pleasant one. She said she would go and inform vanessa (one of the owners) immediately and she did. While i was getting my haircut, vanessa came and spoke to me and was surprised to know that the receptionist did not inform her about the matter even though she was present in the salon that day! She could have dealt with the situation at that moment itself. Anyway, she was very sorry and even offered to compensate by giving me a generous discount.
Well, moving on, i am happy i found this place, the salon is really cute, rustic yet contemporary. Everything in the décor is well thought of, right from the chairs and lights to the little tip holder at the counter. I love going to places which have a character and this is definitely one of those.
Talking about the stylist, Ana… she was very sweet, she made sure she understood what i wanted and suggested a haircut that would suit my long tresses. Even after almost finishing the haircut she was willing to incorporate a few changes that i suggested and made sure i was satisfied with the look. I left the salon smiling and looking fabulous.
I am definitely going to try their services again!

I. Love. This. Place. After 5 years of getting haircuts that aren’t quite what I want, or just are straight up bad, I am so happy I found Maude. The staff are super nice, they offer you wine (!!!), and the décor is amazing. I had my first haircut there today with Madison, and she was the best! She took a good amount of time looking at the picture I brought and talking about how she would approach that cut on me, and was just all around really cool and really nice. I have never been this happy with a haircut, and it was worth every penny!

I am a big fan of this Beauty Salon. I am hard to please, I have crazy hair (some salons even refuse to cut my hair) and I never liked to get my hair cut until I found this place. Celeste, Tina and Vanessa (owners) put on a very good show. In addition to being excellent hair stylists they always are fun to work with. I would recommend this place to anyone. Some reviews find them expansive but honestly well worth it.

The little known secret about Maude is that Cienna is here doing eyelash extensions! She is sweet, fast, and has the best prices in town. Her little spa room is so comfy and relaxing, and parking on Station St. is never a problem. She will make your eyes pop.
Caution: lash extensions are addictive! Fortunately, Cienna will take great care of you and this is one addiction that you can feel good about indulging.

I would love to give this place 5 stars because I used to come here a lot and the décor is just plain awesome. However, I have to be honest.
The first time I came I was with Claire. The first time she did my hair it turned out very good, but the next few times were not good at all and way too subtle. I’m normally entirely too embarassed to tell a stylist if I don’t like it and I hate making people feel bad. So I switched and I cannot remember her name for the life of me. When I came to see her I was in the middle of a very rough breakup and told her I needed a massive change and she took that and ran with it… in a good way! She completely transformed me from dark brown to very blonde with beautiful high and low lights. It was exactly what I needed (and it worked because the boyfriend and I got back together and are now engaged!). However, again, the next few times I came in to get my roots touched up it did not turn out well. It came out as some kind of reddish color and I was so unhappy that for the first time in my life I called them and had them do it over again, and it still didn’t turn out well. I ended up retreating with my tail between my legs to my old, albeit very expensive, stylist who had me fixed up in no time.
Like I said, I really hate giving this a low review but hopefully they will use this to improve.

Like funky hair? This place is for you. From the purple ceiling to the black and white stripes, Maude screams funk. Yes they do regular hair cut and highlights too. But it takes a special kind of stylist to do the out of the ordinary hair. Which brings me to Val.
Val is my stylist and she is fantastic. She is the only one I’ll trust with such a task of the rainbow highlights or humbro coloring. She has taken me from plain brunette to intriguing color for over a year. What I like best is that she is patient and honest. If something could look better she make recommendations so that you will get the look you want.
Another perk about getting your hair done at this salon is you can to relax with a cup of coffee or glass of wine while you are getting all dolled up. They really know how to treat a lady.
