I have been taking my dog here for a couple years, basically when she started to need more care than just shots and regular physicals. Every doctor that I’ve met has been compassionate and caring. They have gone above and beyond in every way. Unfortunately we had to put our dog down last week but they made the process as easy as possible. We even received a hand written condolences card a few days later. Yes it is more expensive that your regular vet in the box but with that comes greater care and real compassion.

I have taken my dogs to Dominion Animal Hospital for years. They are always friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Recently I took my dog in for a kidney ailment. Dr. Boone was so patient and kind with my «senior» dog and explained all the test results to me so I too would have an understanding of what to expect.
Having a grounding in the facts relative to my dog’s condition, allows me to feel I’m a partner with my vet rather than a client.

We have been going to Dominion Animal Hospital for a year and a half. This is when we adopted our dog. We are on the wellness plan and have found it to be very helpful with routine items that we would need to pay for anyway. Our dog loves coming here and when she knows we are in the parking lot, she pulls to get in the door. The staff all treat her like their own dog and they are very pleasant. We always chat with others in the waiting room and have not had a long wait except when there was an emergency for someone else and then we did not mind waiting. The care we have received here has been excellent.

The veterinary staff was pleasant and competent in attending to my pet. I thought that portion of the business was okay. Things having to do with me the pet owner were quite the opposite. I experienced poor customer service; incorrect and incomplete documentation of our visits and transactions; and suspect accounting practices.

We had been boarding our 2 dogs with Dominion pretty regularly for a year and a half without any issues and liked the facility and the staff. In October of this year, we brought the dogs in to be boarded for the weekend and gave the front desk their updated vaccination records as they had just received all their shots the previous day.
When we returned Monday we found out the vaccinations had not been entered into their medical records and the vet onsite had re-​administered all the vaccines they thought our dogs were missing. We have a 12 year old and 10 year old dog, and this mistake could have had very serious consequences for both of them.
My husband asked to speak with the vet to discuss any potential side effects and was told she was too busy and would have to wait or come back in the morning. Being concerned he waited, and the vet gave little more info then if something was going to happen to them they would have seen it by now.
After this discussion my husband requested a break on the boarding bill as the animals clearly were not properly cared for and was told the owner would have to make that decision. The owner refused to come speak with my husband and we were told someone would call us the next day, but we would have to pay the bill in full to have our dogs released to us.
My husband paid the bill so our dogs could come home, and let the Dominion staff know we wouldn’t be back.
The next morning the office manager contacted me, apologized for the «confusion» and refunded our boarding bill. The situation wasn’t confusing, it was negligent and dangerous.
Please don’t support a business owner that does not care about its clients. Our animals are part of our family, and they did not receive the proper care and attention they deserve when being left with professionals.

I took my cat in for a laceration and was seen very quickly. Since there was no temp or signs of infection Dr Boone agreed we could try treating the cut with topical antibiotics. I was pleased with the outcome and will continue to take my pets to DAH.

My husband’s family started using Dominion Animal Hospital when they moved to Virginia in summer 1973. We still go there now. We have always gotten excellent care there. The only reasons I did not give it the fifth star are: occasionally services have been recommended I did not think my dog needed and the wait can be long for a mid day or late day appointment. I saw the new vet, Dr. Wehle the last two times. I like her very much. I think she is a good fit there.

I’ve been bringing my pups here for over 35 years and the entire staff is very friendly and the doctors are caring and knowledgeable.

My family has been taking their pets here for at least 18 years and I have gotten to know the staff better recently. The vets and techs really seem to care about the animals. My dog is quite well known to them and they take good care of him. When he first started throwing up as a puppy, older Dr. Boone and Dr. Wallace took note of the recurrence. Dr. Boone called me or sat down with me each time to show me the numbers and the normal ranges, to show and explain x-​rays, and to answer my questions. He was patient with me and took the time to really care for Rocky. Dr. Boone decided to follow Rocky’s case and started to run some tests. We found out that he has chronic pancreatitis – which meant he needed a special diet because his pancreas was overproducing enzymes to break down the fat in his diet at the time. They called different places to get the max % of fat in different specialized canned dog foods. He wound up on a homemade diet in the end because he refused to eat the low fat canned dog food (but who could blame him? That stuff smelled awful!). The ladies at the front were nice enough to take the unused cans back and provide a refund. He has had issues with his liver enzymes and they have run various tests (including an ultrasound) and follow-​ups to figure out why his liver enzymes spiked. His liver looked normal and healthy, no noticeable reason for the spike… except that the toxic chemicals in the lawn treatments might be affecting him or he might have ingested a mushroom/​other toxic food. We put him on one medication to lower the enzymes. The numbers weren’t going down as quickly as they should and at one point, the numbers wouldn’t budge. So, Dr. Boone put him on one additional medication – which isn’t cheap; however, they called around to different pharmacies for pricing and found that one of their most trusted pharmacies compounds this medication at a much lower price than most (and lower than prices I found online)! It’s even better that they send my dog a toy with each shipment of medication, compliments of the pharmacy and Dominion! His liver enzymes dropped significantly and are back in the normal range. Dr. Boone and the staff at Dominion have worked with me on payments and Dr. Boone has always been good about being available via phone at both Dominion and Adams Morgan when my dog has had issues or I have had questions/​concerns. Everything has been under control and my dog is back to his happy, healthy, and silly self! Thank you!

I have been going here for about 5 years, mostly for «wellness» care. When they diagnosed one of my pets with a very rare cancer, I dealt with many of the doctors here. All of the staff were extremely compassionate which was helpful because it was very difficult for me.

We’ve been taking our pets to Dominion Animal Hospital 20+ years. The customer service has gone steadily downhill. There seems to be a total disconnect between the front office staff and the doctors. We had a huge issue last summer and planned to look for a new vet then but got busy with other things. Now we got the wake up call we needed to make the effort to find a more efficient and more caring practice. I took my cat in on a Tuesday evening because he’d lost his appetite. We paid $ 500 for an x-​ray and blood work. When I called Friday because I still hadn’t heard, I was told the results were in and someone would call me by close of business. I got the call Saturday instead and the doctor said he’d been out sick – as if one of the other doctors couldn’t read a simple blood panel? He prescribed an antibiotic for the «raging infection» and I requested an appetite stimulant. I made the request twice yet when my son went to pick up the antibiotic he was told the doctor would need to see the cat again (so more money for another office visit) before prescribing the appetite stimulant. He knew very well nothing had changed with the cat’s appetite and even had the nerve to write «take w/​food» on the antibiotic. On Monday we took our cat to another vet who hydrated and force fed my cat and sent us home w/​an appetite stimulant but it was too little, too late. We had to put my cat down just one week after the original blood test. To add insult to injury, the office called to collect on the antibiotic but never even asked about the cat they have been treating for 12 years. When I went to pay for the antibiotic, I asked for my other cats’ records and told them we’d be going elsewhere. With zero compassion or interest in my cats, the woman simply said, «okay». Wow, I got a more passionate reaction from the mechanic I left!

I’m raising my review. I did receive a response on here from Dominion apologizing for the long wait time I experienced previously and providing some suggestions for avoiding them.
My most recent visit to have dental work done on both dogs went a little better with drop off and pickup happening pretty quickly.
However, it’d be tough to go much higher given just how darn expensive every trip here is. That being said, so far the dogs have done great even with some oral surgery on one. They seem to be pretty good here, but I might get additional estimates elsewhere first next time.

This Vet Clinic needs a redo in their front desk customer service. I have lot of patience but today my patience has run out. Barbara/​Wanda (I’m mentioning both names b/​c this happened twice) lack the understanding what customer service is, when I explained a sensitive situation with my dog and that I really need to talk to a doctor, she told me they will call me back, well i waited and waited — no call — so I called back in several hours just to remind them that I need to speak to a doctor and I waited and waited well I waited 48 hrs and no one called me back!
What I find insulting is that unless I make an app they really don’t find it a priority to get the doctor on the phone. What I find very disheartening is that the front desk cannot find the courtesy to call me at the end of the day (when I told them that its time sensitive and important I talk to the vet ASAP) to at least tell me, sorry the doctor was busy all day, I’ll remind him/​her tomorrow or whatever, you know bit of care about the client and patient (and not just from the doctor)!.
BTW this is NOT the first time this happened to me, but at that time it was not that urgent so I let it go.
As to the vet Dr. Wallace she is very nice when we do talk and tries to assist and help with my dog, and so is Dr. Mc. Farland, I do think they care for their patients a lot. But its not just the doctor that makes a practice its the front desk customer service that makes it complete.

Dominion AH is a wonderful place. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming. The staff are great. They make my dog and I feel part of the community. Service is fast and efficient. We are in and out in a timely manner. The veterinarians are professionals in their work and make sure we are comfortable. They know exactly what they are doing. The vet techs are super and I am glad they are a part of the team. Dominion AH’s waiting room is warm and has a tv with informative information for all pet owners. They offer many services and I have yet to feel as if they are raiding my pockets as I have felt with vets in the past. I love this place and we can’t wait to go back!

KittyMan has been a long time customer and he loves the attention and care he receives. He loves getting out of the house and visiting with whoever happens to be in the waiting room when he goes for his visits as he is a very friendly «big boy» cat. He even likes his canine buddies and loves the attention from the small children. Most of all he loves how well he is taken care of by the staff at Dominion, even if he is tipping the scales just shy of 20 lbs. He’s long and a big boy, at least that is his story and he’s sticking to it. He’s a good patient, doesn’t mind his shots and teeth cleanings and doesn’t seem to miss that tooth he had to have pulled. KittyMan whines about getting in the car, but considers it a play date once we arrive. We couldn’t ask for a better clinic!

I love this vet practice. The front desk staff are friendly and prompt. I’ve had my cat seen by several of the doctors — all of whom I thought were professional and caring. Thankfully, I’ve only had to take kitty in for check-​ups and minor scrapes. I would recommend this practice. They are professional and down-​to-​earth.

I’ve taken my cat and dog to Dominion Animal Hospital for years, and they are always kind and friendly. It’s not the fanciest place, but the people are nice and the doctors seem knowledgeable and caring. In fact, Dr. McFarland saved my dog’s life! They also offer boarding for a reasonable price.

I’d like to add that I had to put my darling little cat down on Monday, and they were unbelievable. Supportive and kind and let me take up one of their exam rooms to be with her while I waited for my husband to come (it was unexpected). I’ve never had to put down a pet before, and while the experience was utterly traumatic for me, it was the very best place to do it outside of my home. Definitely bring your furry pal here-​they will get good care, and you will too.

I think after a few months these businesses get to erase all of their reviews and start over. I actually looked this dive up again for a good laugh. Unfortunate they erased the post about the woman who ran over her cats head and this clinic told her they could save her cat… I have come to this clinic a handful of times out of desperation. Every experience has gotten progressivly worse. From the nasty front desk staff to the incompetent doctors. Pack a lunch because the wait is forever! The front desk is too busy gossiping about their divorces to inform you on the wait and will put you in your place if you inquire. Once I finally saw the doctor, our conversation was more about listening to her and the assistant «trash» talk the clients in the waiting area. My dog came in for a rabies shot and an ear exam and all I got was an outrageous bill and no diagnosis. When I called back to inquire about my outrageous bill, the lovely receptionist of 23 years hung up on me. Once I finally spoke to Dr. Wallace, she told me how stupid I was for not looking at my reciept and noticing that the anti-​inflammatory perscribed doesn’t work on my dog. She also informed me that she has no idea of the prices that are charged, she just enters them into the computer. There are no consultations on surgical procedures or estimates given up front. By the way, Dr. Wallace is the owner. I was very dissatisfied with the lack of customer service, unprofessionalism, and no diagnosis. I am surprised these people are licensed to practice medicine. I wish I had read the reviews on this place sooner. I live by online reviews. I wouldn’t be stuck paying all this money for «stupid». And you will never get a refund, just an invitation to have your records sent somewhere else. They dismiss all their disputive clients.
