I am soo impressed! I ordered skates Dec 20^th with no expedited shipping and the skates arrived Dec 22! This is phenomenal! I am soo impressed!!! Thank you!

Just had the best experience with Rage at Square Cat Skates. She really took the time to explain everything thoroughly so I could make an eduacated purchase. She is so friggin knowledgeable! It was worth every minute of the 1.5 hour drive! Highly recommended!

Don’t drive far to get here unless you’ve confirmed the store is really open! I give 2 stars because I have every faith that had the store actually been open during their advertised hours, the experience would have been great. Drove from Venice specifically to buy skates here… had to buy them elsewhere.
A woman who works a neighboring store said there’s no set schedule as to when Square Cat is actually open… the owner just comes and goes who knows when. I tried calling all week before I drove down, no answer there either.

I wish this was a turn around review. But sadly, I send this as a warning to anyone looking to purchase online from them. I don’t think I would have heard anything from them, that the skates I ordered were out of stock. It was spotty communication with someone who, as indicated by Rage, no longer works for them. Yet that person, Val, was the only one responding to their website emails. I had made several requests to be out in touch with who ever was in charge. Left several messages on their phone line, at the store, yet I heard nothing. Finally, I had to go through PayPal to contact whoever was in charge. I received an email from Rage, who offered me an upgrade on the skates, but I just wanted to wash my hands of it all and receive a refund. My initial email through PayPal indicated this. Anyway, once I indicated this, nothing. I didn’t hear back from Rage. I had to escalate my case to a claim. Still nothing. PayPal gave me my refund. So be warned. Again, customer service shouldn’t be compromised with online customers.

Really cool stuff in their shop and staff knew there stuff.

Rage hooked me up with a custom pair of skates a few weeks ago and I’m over the moon with them! They were ready within a week and she did a fantastic job with the build.
I ordered the Sure Grip Avenger plates to be mounted on a pair of Puma Speed Cats, then to be paired with Rollerbones Artistic 97A wheels. Anyone who wants an awesome, light-​weight plate that is super responsive, I recommend the Avengers. Wow, those hairpin turns! It’s a bit of a juxtaposition, however, if one is a strong skater these are an absolute blast to skate on.
I will eventually upgrade to a new derby boot just to have the switch on different skate days. After 2 three hour sessions on them, I’m very satisfied and looking forward to doing business with her again. Hope to see you at the rink soon and cheers!

I ordered moxie skates for my niece on Jan 26 and there was an order discrepancy, but square cat eventually straightened everything out and sent a series of indoor wheels and two pairs of extra laces as a «thank you for your patience gesture.»
Although I did very much appreciate the extras shipped when we finally received the skates, I highly recommend that square cat tighten up its customer service accuracy and efficiency because it is affecting your customer base!!!
Your store and location are super cool and I would love to order from you again but after my last experience I must say I would be hesitant to do so…

Really disappointed with Square Cat Skates. If I could give them 0 stars, I would. I attended Rollercon 2014 and they had a booth there. I had heard good reviews from my friends so I decided to get my shirts printed with my name and number. I got four practice shirts, and a $ 50 hoodie that I purchased from Pivot Star printed with my name and number. I filled out their forms making sure to clarify exactly what I wanted on each shirt (some were different), the font, colors, etc.
So two things that were disappointing — I was told the shirts would be done in two hours. I came back four hours later, figuring with the RollerCon influx, they’d probably be a little busy. When I asked if my shirts were done, they acted surprised and told me there’s no way they’d be done yet. So I came back the next day around the same time. The shirts were done at that time, but one shirt and the hoodie were done incorrectly. As in, they left off half of my name. I asked if there was any way they could redo it or fix it, and they told me no, but they could give me a refund ($ 10 for each shirt).
So $ 20 back, but my $ 50 hoodie that I was stoked to finally purchase (been waiting years to buy it from Pivot Star) is ruined. Really disappointing.
I definitely won’t be using or purchasing anything from this company again. Lesson learned.

Came here on a late Wednesday night to pick up a pair of outdoor skates I found on their website. I called the store to let them know I was wouldn’t be there until just about closing time and Rage (the store owner) said it wouldn’t be a problem and that she would wait for me. It is a very cozy shop and they had a good selection of skates, protective gear, fun t-​shirts, and other accessories. Rage was very friendly, professional and attentive without trying to rush me out of the door even though it was well past closing time. She helped me order the skates exactly how I wanted them (color, material, bearings, etc.). The transaction was smooth and she made me feel very comfortable with the purchase I made. She also gave me a free skates holding strap, a pair of trendy thick-​framed lenses and a beverage cooling sleeve :)! Skates arrived to my home within the following 48 hours, free of charge (!!). Love my new skates!!! No hassle, great skates, great purchase. Thanks Rage!
Btw — I have previously purchased a pair of indoor skates at Moxi Roller Skate shop in Long Beach, and this shop is BY FAR a better experience. :) :)

This place is great. It’s so nice to have a skate shop that’s all about roller skates. Many stores are all about skateboards with two pairs of roller skates in the back somewhere. I love that they have a ton of things in stock to see and try before you buy online somewhere.
I waited for about 10 minutes to be helped (as Rage was helping another customer). Totally fine. I looked around, the place is tiny but they have some of everything. Then, she helped me find my perfect set up of skates and wheels (Riedell R3’s with Radar Bullet wheels). She also spent a good amount of time making sure my boot fit well and generally helping me figure out what kind of wheels would be best, etc. She talked me through all of my options.
They have pretty much the entire line of 187 Killer pads, which is great because you can try them on before buying. They also have a bunch of wheels and all the major toe stop brands.
The best part – she did not pressure me into anything. She let me know about pricing when I asked about upgrades, but in a totally non-​pushy way. She helped me pick upgrades that weren’t super high end, but better than stock and in my budget. There were no surprises.
The great thing about this shop is that you can earn credits to use at the store if you’re in a derby league. After my skate purchase, I racked up about $ 30 in credits to use toward a future purchase.
I am a very happy customer and will be back!

I decided to be irresponsible and use some of my financial aid to buy a long lost love. Rollerskates. I have been infatuated with rollerskating since I was a kid, but never dipped my feet in the water. A few years ago, I discovered derby, chicksinbowls, and videos of women in skateparks and my love for it grew immensely. Finally, I decided to lace up my own skates and teach myself. Doing some research I found this little shop which is not too far from me and it had pretty good reviews. The store certainly lives up to its name. I’m pretty shy, so I’ll wander around the store for a long time before asking anyone for help. Luckily, as soon as I came in a woman (I’m assuming she’s Rage n’ Ribbons and the owner) asked me if I needed help finding anything. Thank Lucifer because I would have wandered around that little shop looking at nothing, but already knowing what I wanted until I gathered up the courage. She answered all my questions with patience and small motivational speech and gave me a push into the world of skating. The prices were slightly cheaper than other places I found online, which is also a plus.
After about a month I lost one of my axle nuts, so I found myself at square cats once again because they sold a specific brand I wanted (they’re so convenient). This time I was greeted by a man and he was equally as nice and answered my questions sharply and it was a quick/​easy transaction.
In a more concise version: go to square cats if your addiction has got you itchin’ because they’re knowledgeable, helpful, patient, inexpensive, and probably, maybe, definitely, most likely, hopefully, 90 +/​-​10% of the time will have what you need.

Rage is the best! I drove all the way down from Glendale to get some skates from her and it was totally worth it! She helped fit me for skates, taught me how to adjust my toe stops and gave me some stickers on the way out. She was totally patient and nice. I’ll be buying my next pair of skates from her for sure.

Rage is the best! If you are like me and you need someone to sit you down and walk you through every decision (from mouthguard to kneepads to skates), this is where you need to be. She knows everything and will help you make the best decision. Plus, the 15% credit for derby league members is super helpful because we always need new gear! (And it’s clever of course because it brings you back to her shop :)
There are closer skate shops to me but I always find myself back at square cat because the customer service is bar none.
A lot of reviews comment that it took a while to get stuff that had to be ordered. I had the same experience but a lot of that is in the control of the manufacturing companies (Riedell, etc.) so I don’t know how much control Rage has.
One piece of advice for anyone coming for the first time — call ahead. Sometimes the shop is closed on a Saturday because Rage has to attend a bout or other derby event. So just call before you trek out to Hermosa to make sure she’ll be there!

I wanted an awesome pair of shorts to wear to Pride. Searched Amazon and found the perfect pair. Did a Web search for similar items and found Square Cat Skates had similar shorts and other items I would probably want in the future so I placed an order on June 20^th and my credit card was charged right away. An email confirmation was sent stating my order was received. I called worried a couple days before needed them but no answer. I had faith the shorts would arrive and even waited for the mail the day of Pride for them, but nothing. The date came and went. I emailed, called and went as far as filing a claim with the Better Business Bureau. Square Cat Skates failed me. A simple email saying something, anything would have helped a ton. Finally got an email stating my order shipped and tracking info showed it was received by USPS on July 4^th. The envelope was in my Mail box July 11^th. One letter envelope, one sheet of paper with order info physically printed on June 23^th and one pair of shorts. Not even a bag to help protect from elements. There’s nothing special about the shorts they just have a cute design, I paid $ 31.40. I will keep the item and hopefully remember I have them for Pride next year. But my advise is DO NOT order from this store on-​line.

I live fairly close to square cat skates and every time I go in Rage is very helpful and she really knows her stuff when it comes to roller skates. I bought my first roller skates for derby here and I’ve been coming back to her since :)

I was searching all over for a Nickle Board for my 11 year old son. He didn’t tell me what color but I saw their Hover Board and was instantly driven to find one. Everyone, Including the maker, were sold out. Google showed Square Cat and so I gave it a shot. I prefer to support small business anyways so I was hopeful. I saw a couple of poor reviews regarding their shipping and was hesitant and their site didn’t give an option to expedite and I needed it fairly quickly. I called and no one answered so I decided to shoot them an email (the method they said would get the fastest results).
Within a few hours I got a return email from Rage. Clarifying the few instances where customers expect miracles or just can’t be made happy regardless of any effort attempted. I felt good about them and Rage explained that they did not have the Hover in stock but that she had an order with Penny ecpected and that she would know for sure if she could help me soon so I arranged to follow up 2 days later on a Friday. I had decided on a cool helmet that hopefully would encourage it to be worn as well.
On Friday, I emailed Rage again to follow up as planned. She almost immediately responded and told me they had found a hover that was boxed up while organizing their stock room, a cancellation, and that she had the helmet too! YAY! She said it would go priority possibly even Saturday AM if I completed the order that day. (2X) YAY!
A couple of days passed, I hadn’t seen a confirmation of shipment and started to get a little nervous. So, I emailed them again. That night, well after normal business hours, there was a new message from Rage. Apologizing and explaining there was a mix up. I was bummed at first, but she told me that the helmet I ordered was the last they had. She had put it aside for me when I confirmed I wanted it, but had not seen that there was an order for the same helmet and size before me and her staff had done (as they should) and processed it to the first order. When she found that out, she went across town, out of her way, to the manufacturer and got one for me and immediately processed the order. Service above and beyond!
The packages arrived the very next afternoon! She even taped them together, I presume so there would be no risk of one of the pieces getting seperated in delivery which certainly does happen. I was shocked and so very happy. Not only did I find the Hover Board, but I found an amazing independent business to support that has exceptional customer service. I can’t wait to visit the store itself sometime and meet Rage and give her a big hug for making this gift happen.
Oh…and I forgot to mention, the cost of the board was about $ 40.00 less than anywhere else and it came with a cool rugby style Penny t-​shirt. My son totally loves it and the helmet came with a ton of stickers and he actually WANTS to wear it! The S1 fits perfect, looks cool, great quality and protection, and again, the cost was less than the bulky crappy quality helmets that you would get at say Target.
I definately recommend Square Cat Skates, just call or email them to verify their stock, communicate with them, don’t be a dick and you will have an amazing transaction!
Thanks Rage and Square Cat! It’s a book, but I wanted my whole experience and all of your efforts made clear as day. You guys ROCK!

I ordered skates. They said it would be a few days. A couple weeks later I called them. They said they were delayed. A few weeks later I called them again. They said they had them and they were shipping them that day. It’s been a couple weeks since then. I have left multiple voicemails, email and even came by the store and left a note. Still nothing not even a call.
I now have to call my credit card company and dispute the charge (almost $ 200)
Apparently this is common practice for them according to people I spoke with outside of their store and from the bad reviews.
I ordered the skates on Jan 27^th and it’s March 17^th now. On the phone with AMEX right now.
UPDATE: AMEX gave me the credit back to my card. Square Cat expect a call from American Express.

Added a star from my previous review because I did end up getting my purchased product.
I still have to disagree with the comment to my previous review that my emails were aggressive. I was simply asking for an update on the status of my PAID product because it was a Christmas gift to my best friend who was moving across the country. So yes she missed it and I had to ship it to her a month later. The price wasn’t the reason I ordered from here but that they said nothing about the product being out of stock. All other websites contacted me saying that they were not in stock. That is why I needed to know the status. Without any response and my credit card still charged I couldn’t make a move either way. I did not like how they handled my business.
Suggestion: let customers know if you don’t actually have the product they pay for and respond to your customers when especially if they already paid.

Rage is very knowledgable and knows her shit. I can’t recommend her store enough. She also has cool rental skates incase you have a friend in town who doesn’t have skates and you want to skate the strand. She also makes custom shirts!
