Wow. Looks like a dive bar but serves fabulous gourmet food! YEP IT’S A HIDDEN GEM. great drink and fabulous food.

Local bar with great beach vibes and energy! The service at the bar is fast and all the bartenders are friendly. If you love reggae music (AKA sublime) and catching a buzz by the beach hit this spot up forsure!!!

The only reason I come here now on the regular is because of Shae. She’s been here through the good and bad and does not waft farts into my drink like several of the drunks do on the opposite side of the bar.
On another note the bartenders keep changing. Some of them are fantastic but, if you can find a veteran like Nicole or Shae they know nearly everyone and run the team and place better than Michael Jordan in a NBA finals game.
PS, rub Greg’s head for good luck, dude won a hot tub on Price Is Right… even though he’s a Patriots fan. #gobroncos

Great little place with very good food. I recommend the Lean Mean Drinking Machine breakfast. Very tasty indeed

I read all the reviews about Barnacles and some of them gave low stars because it is a locals hang out with local drunks. Well that is a big reason why we knew we would love it. Our friend, Ernie, suggested we go to Barnacles because it used to be one of his local haunts. We loved it from the second we saw the outside. Irene, the bartender who works Thursdays, is the sweetest (and likely one of the cutest) little thangs on Hermosa Beach. She took fabulous care of us. Ted, the owner was there, and treated us to his (what should be) world famous Blue Fin Tuna Ceviche. I never willing consume uncooked fish. I hate the texture but this was AMAZING! We also had the pretzel basket, chicken wings and Philly cheese steak sandwiches. Yummmmm! The chef/​owner of Hot’s Kitchen across the street hangs out at Barnacles. There were several regulars. They all knew each other by name, but that didn’t stop any of them from chatting and introducing themselves to us. Yes, it’s a local hang out. Heck, their motto is «where the locals hang out!» So if you’re not comfortable enough to slide on in and be one of the locals, even for just an hour, you’ll hate it. If you relax a little, you’ll find that Barnacles is a wonderful, fun and welcoming place to be. Wish we could’ve stayed longer. Next time we’ll plan accordingly!

Have never been around this area so I thought we’d try it because it had good reviews. It definitely did not disappoint I had the bbq wings and my boyfriend had the Carne Asada fries and both were really good. We will most likely be going back if we are around that are.

Interesting little neighborhood bar. This seems to be a very popular place. Parking is on the street and that can be a little difficult. There’s a full bar. We stopped in here a couple times over the weekend. I guess we liked it. Too bad the place isn’t larger. I wouldn’t mind stopping in here again some time.

I have lived here for three years. It’s the closest bar to me. It’s an overpriced dive bar to sum it up. Food isn’t great other than the Chili Mac and I have had most the menu. It’s my last call place and I would leave it at that.

Horrible, dirty and no service. We watched the waiter look at us 4 times and walk by. Plenty of other places to visit in this area rather than waste your time here.

Worst service in Hermosa Beach. Obviously the young staff has no idea about where their paychecks come from.

Definitely a locals bar in Hermosa that’s off of the pier. I like the atmosphere of the place and the vibe but have been disappointed by service and the cleanliness. Sitting in the patio and knocking back a few is always a good time while enjoying the beach air. Disappointing part is the place is kind of grimy and the waitresses have some attitude.

Really good for bar food. And great crowd.

Having a great time here! Food is amazing! You can ride your bike there and lock it up at the bike rack. Off the beaten path here in Hermosa but so worth it! I love this place! My drinks are always strong and food is never a miss! Also all the locals hang here so meeting fun people is awesome!!!

Nicole and Ally are the only reason I come for. the weekend. great service and the best bloody Mary makers. (Each bar tender is allowed to make their own style bloody.) 5 STARS!

Group of 7 of us stopped by after spending a few hours at the beach just to grab some snacks, beer, and kill some time. They sat us out on the patio which had enough shade to keep us cool. If it wasn’t for the shade, i think it may have made it a little uncomfortable.
FOOD/​DRINKS: ⁴⁄₅
We ordered Ceviche and Wings. They were what you would expect, nothing really that pops out at you. It’s your typical bar food. We ordered bucket of beers and they were great because it came in an ice bucket guaranteed to keep your beers ice cold till you crack them open. I’m not sure how this happened, but on one of the buckets at the bottom you’d have your usual ice but there was quite a bit of beer at the bottom. They were obviously not from our beers since they serve them unopened. Not too big of a deal fo rme but for some it may be a bit unsettling.
SERVICE: ⁴⁄₅
The female waitress that was serving our table didn’t seem all that happy. She was there to take our order and make sure it was brought over. There wasn’t that sense of «care» or «hospitality» that you like to see. Isn’t that the reason we have tip in this country? For those service personnel who go that extra mile to ensure you are having an amazing experience? She didn’t stop at all to check on our food or just how we were doing in general. Would’ve enjoyed it more if she was more enjoyable to have around.

$ 10 for a bucket of ice cold beer. I’m not sure how much the food was but I don’t think it came out to be too much.

Definitely a very hip spot where you’ll find most of the locals gather. It has a lot of seating inside and outside with a pool table in the back from additional entertainment. Great little spot to meet up and/​or hang with friends.
RECOMMENDATIONS TO MGMT:
1. Ask servers to exert a more friendly and hospitable attitude.
2. Ensure buckets are cleaned out before being re-​served. Not too big of a deal but some customers may not like this.

I’ve only been for drinks but my last visit was a good one.
It’s a total dive and fits right into the Hermosa drinking culture. It’s a couple blocks removed from the madness on the Pier, so it’s a nice option if you’re over that scene. You’d think it’d get a nice breeze since the ocean is a stone’s throw away, but NOPE — hot as ballz in there. Fans don’t help but blow the hot sweaty air around. There’s a small patio but it’s usually full (plus they close it down early and force you to go into the sweat pit).
In terms of drinks, they’ve got a full bar and draft beer — a little over a dozen to choose from. Nothing out of the ordinary really but nice that they have more than just a couple domestics. I ordered something and the keg blew, so I was given a ²⁄₃ pint while they changed it, and I was given a full pint once it was ready. Nearly two beers for the price of one? Works for me! That’s good service, I say.
Check it out if you’re in the neighborhood and want to avoid the bros and hos on the pier.

LOCAL FLAVOUR bar, interesting eclectic mix, not so much off the beaten path (as it down from multi million dollar homes) but just not your usual trendy chain bars. It does attract a few strangling tourists, but age range can be from 21 to much, much older. The wait staff is non existent and it is tough to track down a server or get the bartenders attention oftentimes. The food IS pretty good for a dive bar, I must say.
I only had the STEAMED ARTICHOKE, but it was served up nicely and came with a sauce.
I was meeting a gf, otherwise, this is not the type of place I generally frequent, but it fun once in a while to live on the edge… sort of! lol

It’s not fancy by any means but the staff remembers you, the food is good (they even have decent phở), and it’s just a fun and chill atmosphere. They even have a couple local craft beers on tap (including King Harbor) and plenty of bottles. There are a lot of TVs (great for football season!) and you can roll in after playing vball at the beach.
Trivia night on Sundays and sometimes they have live music too by some really good guys.

Came here twice. Phở & comedy dive… yep.

First time I ordered it to go with a friend of mine that lives in Hermosa Beach. He swears their phở is good and authentic. When we got back to his house, I had a first bite of their phở and it was pretty good (considering non-​Vietnamese people made it lol). It was not the most authentic phở I’ve tasted BUT not bad at all. It was about $ 8 and they do give you plenty of it with all the trimmings.
Second we went to see a local comedian Briana Hansen
, no cover (free free free). It was on a Thursday night and not crowded at all. We ordered chicken wings and fries… both pretty standard but good. I had my usual Blue Moon and a couple of other friends ordered Coronas. The crowd was very different from the typical weekend crowd. Nevertheless we had a good time.
A good place for locals to hang out… esp if you live walking distance like my friend.
