Art Zone

Nice concept and flexible after school care, but not very clean (granted – few art studios are) and limited structure which leads to many unruly kids in a small space. Better for preschool age kids than the older ones.

We love this place! We love the teachers, the owner, the projects, and especially the philosophy. Art Zone is a gift to the community. My son goes to the preschool and we love the fact that art projects are available and that the children are free to make other choices if they are not wanting to participate in the project. I have deep gratitude to art zone for being a safe place for my son and for the entire family.

My daughter had a lot of fun at Artzone. I gave it three stars because there is a room filled with old stuffed animals that have to be have dust mites and old costumes. My daughter loved this room. But I felt it was a distraction from the art. She can dress up for free at home. I also had to ask the staff for more supplies a few times and was given an attitude like I was bothering them.
I love the idea of Artzone. I just wish it was cleaner and better stocked.

We took our (foster) son to the Friday parent’s night out. He was a little apprehensive. When we arrived, we were immediately greeted by the staff. They were super nice to him and he immediately felt more comfortable.
After the event, Matthew was beyond thrilled! His first comment was, «I have to go back there!» He said the staff were so kind and helpful. In addition, he came home with a cool sculpture and an awesome Valentine’s Day piece of art for me (his foster mom).
We will definitely take Matthew back for parent’s night out, as well as camps, classes, etc. GREAT JOB, ARTZONE! :)

We had our daughter’s 3 year old birthday party here and we’ve been to several other parties here. It’s always a blast with so many things for the kids to create and explore. We all end up having a great time, and the best part… we don’t have to clean it up! ;) As a parent hosting a party, it’s pretty easy. Tip: when you have the party there and plan on ordering pizza, go ahead and order it the day before and have it delivered an hour into the party. we had planned on ordering it as soon as we got to Art Zone to start setting up, and things got so busy we forgot! (it all ended well and pizza arrived :)

My daughter had her 4-​year-​old birthday party here and nearly every parent of the 22 kids who came said it was the best birthday they’d ever been to. The staff is friendly and there are so many activities for both boys and girls — and not just art, so the name Art Zone doesn’t sum up how many fun things are there to do. Parents can enjoy themselves, too, because the staff is organized and takes care of everything. I’m not one to Unilocal but I had to spread the word.

The place was dirty. Not paint dirty, like dust and dirt ground into the play room dirty… and they definitely don’t disinfect anything. It was $ 9 with really low quality paint to paint a piece of cardboard. I saw numerous health violations including all soap dispensers refilled with water with very little soap (this creates bacteria). Also a soaking wet floor with shoes in the back, aka: mold city! If you are concerned About health like I am don’t bother. However they get 2 stars cause the girls working there were nice.

TERRIBLE BUSINESS PRACTICES!!!
I called and made a reservation last week for «community day» which is ALWAYS on Thursday afternoons and only $ 9 vs their regular $ 15 «open play» price. The girl I spoke with took my name and said everything was fine. I showed up there today and they decided to change their schedule bc it was «camp week» and wanted me to pay $ 15. I said, excuse me, I called for community day and made reservations last week. NO ONE told me there was no community day and that it was changed to open play. This place is not worth $ 15, but $ 9 I was wiling to pay. The nice girl at the desk totally understood my frustration. I had also told a few friends to come with us… one drove all the way from Carson only to show up and be denied. The girl talked to the manager who refused to honor what they told me last week on the phone and said I had to pay $ 15. I left, my friend left, and my other friend who was on her way went back home. DEFINITELY WILL NOT RETURN EVER! I will not support a business that treats their customers like this and doesn’t honor what they themselves, say. HORRIBLE PLACE!

This review could have went the complete opposite because of a minor scheduling mistake at Art Zone but ended up being a blessing in disguise. The owner Laura, is amazing, and really helped resolve the issue and she really saved the day for us and a birthday party at Art Zone at the park down the street from the location (I think they should have a package like this for future parties).
We ended up having Art Zone come to a Glen Anderson park for a birthday party instead of being stuck inside, and it was perfect! The kids had a blast, they painted little stuffed animal dogs, finger painting, playing with goo, and Laura painted the kids faces. There wasn’t a mess because everything was on white sheet paper that we just threw away afterwards and the kids didn’t get as covered in paint as we thought they would.
Art Zone is a perfect place for a kids party, and we can’t tell you how happy we were to go with them. It also feels good to know this isn’t some kind of corporate business; the owner really does enjoy what she does, and it really made our 5 year olds’ birthday special. We’ll definitely be back for more fun with the kids.

My daughter can not stop talking about Art Zone. We were introduced to this place a year ago by a friend who had her daughter’s birthday party there. We have been hooked ever since. The staff is very friendly and they are very good at what they do. Recently my daughter had 3 weeks off from school so we signed her up for winter camp at Art Zone. It was worth every penny. She had an amazing time. When my little girl comes home from Art Zone she has a bag full of art projects that she so proudly shows to us and anyone who happens to be in the room. Every city should have an Art Zone and Every kid should experience going there. Thank you Art Zone for showing my kid a good time.

My son absolutely loved this place. We were so bummed that the mud room wasn’t open as that’s the part I thought he’d enjoy the most but even without it he didn’t want to leave! Usually, after an hour in a play place he is ready to go home but not this time. He loved painting on every easel they had, making clay art, playing with gak and a cornstarch, water, paint mixture. They had many different stations with plenty of stuff for multiple kids to work on. Lots to go around. They also have a little room with stuffed animals and toys and a wooden playhouse for those who don’t want to do art or for littler ones. Oh and bonus you get to keep everything they make… just have to write your name on it and they hand you a paper sack at the end full of your child’s masterpieces. It would be the perfect preschool if you have a kid who is artistically inclined. We will be back for sure to try the newly remodeled water room!

Art Zone in Hermosa Beach is disgusting. We went for open studio as I was thinking of having my daughter’s birthday here. The smell when you step in the place is overwhelming and not in a good way. That play room cannot be up to health codes. It smells like urine and the toys are filthy. The art supplies were fine but nothing a quick trip to Michael’s couldn’t get you for the same price to do at home… and avoid the filth!

Boo for the bad reviews! If you have a child aged about 2−10ish you’ll have to go check this place out for yourself. Yes, it isn’t cheap, so with my income we can’t go all the time unfortunately, but I wish we could! If you can afford it, this is great for little kids. They have open play which is about $ 20 per kid, but they have deals. If you like it you can buy a 4 pass for cheaper per visit, or Sunday nights is 2 kids for $ 25 right now. The kids can do as many of the crafts as they want, there’s no limit. The «mud room» is messy fun. All ages loves thowing this mud stuff around and playing in the water. The best part is that when it dries, it just brushes off like sand. Someone said it’s slippery, but the floor isn’t slick at all folks, and there are crocs to put on too. I have walked in there myself and never felt anything close to slick. My two boys are practically OCD about getting messy which is totally my fault, so I do love coming here once in a while to convince them thats it’s okay to get their hands dirty. It’s also good fine motor skills which my boys need alot more practice with since they don’t like to draw at home, but they love art zone. They really know what kids love. My boys are in heaven in the stuffed animal room that one person called discusting. I was kinda like that with my first child when he was a toddler (scared of anything my child will touch that isn’t sparkling clean) and then I realized I was making him too worried about getting messy. I wish I could take it all back because now I know it’s good for kids to get messy. There’s nothing harmfully messy here, it’s all good kid fun. I am a neat freak, and I’m fine with all of it. Anyway, the stuffed animal room has a huge pile of stuffed animals that your kids can jump into and «swim in» it’s so huge (remember what it’s like to be a kid, wouldn’t you love to dive into a mountain of stuffed animals-​I would!). There’s also little tunnels for them to crawl through-​they love that, and bridges, and train tracks, and more. There’s always easels for painting, clay, paint in a spray bottle, and gak (one person said it’s some wierd clay that doesn’t even keep form-it’s GAK lady-​duh!). They rotate some other crafts to have some new ones like stamps or beads or something else. There’s staff floating around to write the child’s name on the craft and then when they see the child run away they grab the project and put them out to dry so at the end they give you a great big bag full of all the projects they made. I also went to a birthday party here that was the best ever! We had the time of our lives! We haven’t tried the parent’s night out, but I know they have this every Friday with Pizza or something, sounds fun. My 5 year old attended the summer camp for a few day there and he loved it. It’s a special treat!
Update: We joined the art class a few months back, which we love. It’s 2 hours Monday and/​or Wednesday. My kids learned so much and had a blast. At first I was a little worried about the lack of discipline there, but then I realized it’s nice for my kids to have a break and just be kids once a week. They have learned a lot and are sad it has come to an end for summer. I like that it is two hours. Most kid’s classes are only one and that simply isn’t enough time for me to drop them off and get anything done.

I give the birthday parties 5 stars — my child’s birthday was fantastic! Every other birthday our family has attended at Art Zone has also been wonderful. However, Parent’s Night Out had problems. The staff were not attentive and some of the older kids were bullying the younger ones. We were upset and disappointed and won’t be sending our child back to a Parent’s Night’s Out there.

I think the person who wrote the negative review forgot what it is like to be a kid! Painting with Q tips is fun! The «weird play doh stuff» is called Goo (or Gak) and I can’t wait to get my adult hands on it EVERY TIME I visit. Seriously, every time I visit, my kiddo and I spend at least 30 minutes at the Goo table alone. THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!! Yeah… it’s not pristine here, and I for one am happy that my little one is flinging paint around Art Zone and not around my kitchen.
My daughter goes to preschool here and I couldn’t be more pleased with the non-​violent, empathetic, loving approach all of the teachers bring to the classroom. Emotional intelligence is practiced here and my child is thriving in this setting. Art Zone is a blessing in my life and in my neighborhood!

I stumbled across this place online while I searched for a venue for my daughters 3^rd birthday. She is almost 5 now and we return every now and then for Friday Night «parents night out». You can drop off your kids for 3 hours and they get pizza and ample crafting time!
This is a great location for a birthday party, or for open studio. I love the Parents Night Out also.
The staff is warm and very into your kids. I feel comfortable that my child is in a loving/​caring environment.
Just remember once the kids go in its so hard to get them to leave.

I have been brining my 3−½ year old daughter here for two years. She loves it, and if we go a week without visiting, she prompts me by asking when we will go again.
The staff is amazing and I love that we can do all the messy stuff that we just can’t do in our small home. My daughter hits each activity whenever we go: Dress up, Gak (gooey «slime» that for whatever reason kids love), clay, easels, mud room and the craft table that rotates different projects each week. And at the end of each session there is story time and a goodbye song.
While $ 20 per visit can sound pricey, it actually averages out less per hour than most other stuff (music, my gym…). Also, you can buy multi-​visit passes and monthly passes at a discount. And the monthly pass is a super-​great deal — Unlimited studio time for the entire family.
There are days when going to Art Zone keeps my daughter happliy occupied, and keeps me sane :)

If only I could be a child again…:) this place makes me feel like that. I come here often with friends and their kids (usually in a group) for a playdate. The kids are occupied and I get to catch up with my friends!
Artzone has a preschool and other organized activities (Parents Night Out, Camps, Birthday parties) and they also have Open Studio hours a few times a week. During Open Studio 3 – 4 activity tables are set-​up for the kids. And there are few painting stands too (my son’s favorite). The kids can take all their artwork, craftwork home — all neatly organized by the staff throughout the session, no last-​minute scrambling.
There is also a dress-​up room, mud room and some water-​play.
Bring along a change of clothes for yourself (just incase) and definitely for your little one. You will all have a blast!

The Art Zone is a preschool and play space for 18 months through I would say 5 years old. They have set play times where you can come and it’s open studio. They put out tables with various arts & crafts for the kids that they get to take home. The teachers are awesome and sort out the projects as your child does them so all you do when you go home is pickup their bag and take it with you.
Think creative projects like clay with beads, trucks rolling down a paper after dipped in paint, necklaces, art with cookie cutters, gooey blue stuff to stick things in and cut.
They also have a room in the back with water & clay where kids can splash and play and a playroom with a bridge, dress up items and a bridge.
You can be creative here! It’s a bit pricey but worth it. I hear their preschool program is really wonderful too.
