I am unsure why I never wrote a review for this range. I guess it’s better late than never and it’s probably better that I write it now, after experiencing the range a couple times during different years.
We’ve come here a couple times and had great experiences. Hubbs and I first came here ourselves, when we began the application process for our pistol licensing. Just about all of the NY ranges only allow you to shoot long guns and I wanted experience with some pistols so we could pick out what we ultimately wanted to purchase. A few of the other people in our training classes, as well as the instructors, suggested Sunset Hill so, we went during a cold weekday in the winter.
Firstly, it’s an outdoor range. So, being that we went in the winter, I would say to dress a warm. Definitely if you go in the winter, wear boots that have some fur or wool lining or double up on socks. I had on the wrong boots, thins socks and my feet felt like ice cubes by the time we were done. Also, keep some hand warmers (Modell’s sells these) in your pockets. They’ll come in handy while you’re standing outside, listening to the instructor and waiting your turn in between guns.
We went on a week day, so it was empty! I mean, maybe two other groups were there but we had almost no wait time while signing up and we were able to go from section to section to try out the different guns. Basically, when you see the range, every area to shoot from has a group of different gun styles that you can try out and you pay per group of bullets, depending on the caliber. For instance, if you’re trying out the 9 mm Glock, it might cost $ ¹⁰⁄₆ rounds but if you want to try, say, the AK-​47, it may cost $ ¹⁵⁄₇. The amount you pay could definitely shoot up quickly. We averaged around $ 60/​pp in ammo but it’s worth it. They also have trap shooting and we did that for about $ 30 for the entire box of shells, which we split.
I was very nervous because I never held a gun before that day but our instructor was so calming and knowledgeable, I ended up feeling very at ease and I had way better accuracy with my target than my husband did. For the ladies, the instructor actually said that female first-​timers actually do much better than their male counterparts because we pay attention to what the instructor says and we apply it. Sorry, guys!
While we were there that first time, we saw a couple of kids on the range as well and inquired about children visiting. We knew our boy would love an opportunity to let off a couple rounds so on our next visit, we had a larger group and brought a couple teenagers with us, including my son. At that time, he was 15 and was only allowed to shoot long guns because the age for all the guns, including hand guns, is 16. He had a great time, as did all the other guests and he preferred the sniper rifle (I believe the AR-​15 conversion, the name escapes me) they had anyway so, not being to handle the hand guns was not a huge loss.
Since we were a large group, the split us up so everyone would be able to do their thing at the same time at different stations. It was a great experience for everyone and I can not wait to go back.
Since writing this, I realised that I forgot to mention a few things:
1. While on site, understand that you are use live shells that are hot AF upon discharge. Please wear appropriate clothing. We already knew this because we’ve taken gun safety courses in the past. Steer clear of low-​cut tanks/​tees because if a shell lands in your cleavage, I’m sure you won’t be able to keep your cool. Also, no open-​toed shoes for the same reason.
2. Always listen to the instructor. They are quite knowledgeable and can give you tips on your performance and safety. i.e. Always keep the barrel pointing down-​range and keep your finger off the trigger until you are aimed and ready to fire.
3. The best way to take pics is with the action shot mode if your camera has it because it can capture the entire process of a discharge. Pretty cool.
4. One you’ve tried you last favourite firearm, ask for a couple rounds off the «Go Home Gun» (if I recall the name)
5. Have a freaking blast!

Been here with a friend to check out some ranges in PA nice place large ports seem to have a large selection of firearms to look at and try out will have to stop by and spend some time when i have more time.

Sorry if this sounds like im calling you out but you dont know anything your talking about if your casing are hitting you in the face your not shooting properly. I am a NRA INSTRUCTOR AND RSO. Note number 2 these are out door ports and you have alot of room at the same time i work at a indoor range that allows Mag cal rifles and so on its alot louder and the ports are even closer. NOTE 3 you go to a shooting range cause you want to try new things and learn you become a member of a R&G Club if you own and want to have a solo time. Plz dont under rate a place cause your ignorance. … Heres a secret for you NY and NJ dont go to PA cause they dont have firearms they got cause LESS restriction on what they can shoot FYI

Crowded but worth the wait if you are a new shoot. Excellent instruction and great variety of guns. I felt the prices were quite fair.

As someone written previously it’s OK for tourists who come to shoot from New York and Jersey or those who have no weapons of their own to do so or since it is really conveniently located. There are better places one can shoot if you really want to. The booths are located real close together so if someone bringing a shotgun they would be shooting right next to the pistol range even though the pistol booths are separated by the wooden fence but it’s a little too much togetherness for my liking.
Also, You do need to wear eye protection. Not just to make sure that you don’t hurt yourself but also since the bays are fully enclosed at the top and area fairly narrow the casings from the handgun always seem to wind up hitting you

I’ve been actively shooting in addition to being an NRA Range Safety Officer, Instructor for over 20 years. Sunset Hill is by far one of the safest ranges I have ever visited. They also have a huge selection of firearms available for rent. Sunset Hill caters to first time shooters. I was in the Poconos and decided to stop by for an impromptu practice session.
A Typical Day at the Range:
Check in at the Front Desk: Your ID will be checked and held until you leave, sign in and rent eyes and ear protection.
Walk out into the range area and you will be greeted by a friendly, knowledgeable Instructor who will review the basic safety rules. The Instructor will Instruct, provide pointers and will accompany you the entire time that you’re in the range area.
Are you curious? Never shot a firearm? Wanna shoot an Uzi? An AK47? An AR15? A Dessert Eagle? A Glock? A 1911? A 308 Rifle? A 357 Magnum? An M1 Garand? Shotgun Clay Targets? (All semi autos, none automatic weapons) They’ve got all of those weapons and many more for rent.
You don’t have to purchase ammo, your rental fee covers the renting of the firearm and ammo.
The only downside to SH is that they are a little expensive. However, you’re able to keep track of how much you’ve spent at every firing station so you’re not shocked by the bill at the end of the day. Enjoy a fun day outdoors exercising your Second Amendment right.

The instructors were awesome!!! They help guide you through the experience and arent quick to move you along. The place charges you as you pick and choose which guns you want to shoot. Many options to choose from. It was a truly fun experience and id absolutely go back. The ownly thing about this place is cashing out at the end. It takes a bit of time especially on the weekends.

I was there today for the first time, and I loved the place. Mike our instructor was funny, knowledgeable and did a great job at giving me and my group of guys lessons on how to survive the zombie apocalypse! Haha I went for my bachelor party and it was a great way to start the day! I cannot comment on the pricing being the first time ever experiencing a gun range, but after trying 5 guns I felt it was worth it. I will definitely return back!

This is as good as it gets for a first-​time shooter! Experienced shooters can also have a lot of fun experimenting with different guns and configurations.
I’ve had three wonderful visits to this range. The instructors have always been friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful (especially Mike!). I’ve always had a blast trying out different guns and finding where my preferences lie.
All of the friends and family that I brought to this range have had a wonderful time. I highly recommend it!

— M1 Garand: It’s heavy, but extremely satisfying to shoot.
— Savage Model 12: What a wonderful trigger!
— Trap Shooting: This was my favorite. It’s the most fun I’ve ever had shooting!

This place is so much fun!
I came here in the winter with my BF. It was a very cold day.
But anyways, the workers here are all so nice. The guy that showed us how to use the guns was very helpful. We shot clay pigeons as well as different hand guns and he warned us about the recoil. It was a ton of fun and affordable.

Came here for my bday celebration with my favorite ladies, all 4 of them. This experience was the most exhilarating & adrenaline pumping time. It was our first time & it was great. Ben was so patient with us & such a great instructor. Everyone wanted to go again but u know time is limited. This place was like a candy shop for guns, reasonably priced & great for first timers.

Our first gun was the 9 mm glock pistol to start out. I was so nervous, but I still went up there and held the gun. I was probably the slowest shooter because I didn’t want to do anything stupid or abrupt. After that first shot, I was like daaang this is so powerful. Of course the first few shots, I was missing the center target, but at least it was still on the piece of paper. I never knew there was a marker thing on top of the pistol to aid you in aiming! The gun was so smooth against my hands… didn’t expect it to feel that good! My second gun was the AR-​15 sniper rifle, but this was already after a couple of other guns that the other guys and Victor shot (I was too scared to try the others that have more of a powerful recoil that could hurt me and throw me off balance). The sniper was stabilized onto the top of the small table thing where we were shooting from. The first shot gave my ears an overwhelming deafening ring, even when I had the protective eargear on – that was shocking. When I was looking through the eyepiece, I was reminded of how Bradley Cooper was shooting this in American Sniper haha. I’m lame, I know.
All in all, I do not think I will go out and buy a gun anytime soon. I was really emotionally drained because it’s a dangerous tool that can take lives, and HAVE taken many lives. I’m not up for that kind of responsibility and am not willing to take up a new power addiction any time soon. It was simply a most likely one-​time occurrence.

This past weekend was my first time ever going to a shooting range, and it turned out to be an incredible experience. We arrived around 3:30, so it was pretty crowded, but the line seemed to move at a reasonable pace. I wasn’t really nervous until it was my turn to shoot, however my instructor was very patient and gave great guidance on how I should handle the gun. After my first round with the 38 revolver, we gradually moved up to the .40 caliber, .45 ACP, .223 AR-​15 sniper, and .308 HK MR762 A-​1 sniper. Each gun was a different experience, but ultimately I loved the snipers the most. Very powerful, but so much fun!
Ultimately, I had an incredible experience for a beginner and definitely cannot wait to go back! I’m hooked!

It was a great experience.
They provide ear plugs and goggles, but I suggest doubling it up and wear in-​the-​ear-​plugs. You wait on a queue until the next available instructor. Our instructor was informative, humorous, and knowledgable. We shot the .44 caliber first which was pretty easy because the recoil wasn’t bad and it was light. We then tried the deagle — that gun is so heavy and a bit more recoil than I expected. We also did the h&k which was pretty cool shooting through the hologram crosshair.
The instructor marks down the guns you use and how many rounds you shoot. You take the piece of paper to check out and then pay. I think it was pretty reasonable.
Overall I think this was a great facility who value safety and more importantly they really strive to make the experience fun!

As a first timer at a shooting range, I was pretty nervous about the whole thing. I didn’t know if I would enjoy it or hate it. As soon as we walked in (around 10:30AM), it wasn’t that busy but people were coming in steadily. There was an older man at the counter who helped us fill out the registration forms and explained to us how we were charged, etc. He was so sweet and funny! Wish I caught his name.
The six of us were greeted by an awesome instructor, Amina! She is the absolute best! I explained to her that it was my first time and that I was nervous and she recommended the guns I should start out with. She teaches you exactly how to handle each gun. She was patient and informative. I can’t say enough good things about her. I think the whole experience wouldn’t have been as great if it wasn’t for her. Definitely want to come back and request Amina as our instructor again!
**TIP: Go early! When we were leaving (around 1ish), the place was packed! especially on a weekend.
**TIP2: Tip the instructors!

It’s a place you shoot at shit all day and you pay by the clip, how fun! So this place is about a 2hr drive from NYC and it really is a cool place to go. I think it is more of a beginners place to try a new hobby as opposed to veterans who shoot a lot. I thought the instructors and employees were awesome, they were very welcoming and really tried to make the experience as best as possible. The biggest priority over anything was safety, everything was all about safety, which was great. So you get to the counter, you sign in and are given a check off list for what you shoot, then you head outside and ALL GEAR MUST BE WORN. Eye goggles and ear protectors have to be put on BEFORE going outside since some of those guns are loud as fuck! and gun shells fly everywhere. There were basically three rules: Gun always aimed toward the target, finger only on trigger when ready to shoot and no rapid fire. As a first time shooter, it is a little overwhelming but the staff made the experience great. The only downside were the waits, the initial wait was for an instructor and on Saturday around 2pm was about 40 mins, then there was another 15 min wait to get on line to pay. Overall, a great place to spend the afternoon. Also, if you go with a group, you might want to cap the instructors to 4 people in your group since it takes a while for instructions and guns to be loaded.
The guns:
7.62×39 caliber, AK-​47– This came with 7 rounds for $ 15.00. This gun had some kick, my shoulder was sore after, but this gun was so much fun. The gun was easy to aim and fun to shoot with.
.308 Bolt Action Sniper, Ruger M77– This came with 7 rounds for $ 16.00. This was a cool gun, it kinda reminded me of old school sniper rifles that you could only shoot one round at a time, then you pull the bolt back, the casing flies out and you feed in another bullet. This rifle came with a stand and a seat.
.40 caliber, Glock 16– This came 6 rounds for $ 13.00. The paper shooting target is $ 1.50. So the handgun packs more of a recoil than I was expecting. It’s a fun gun to shoot, it’s small, lightweight and easy to shoot.

This shooting range is great for beginners. I came here with a group of 9, but only 6 of us shot. You are required to pay $ 3 for goggles and earphones if you are just watching.
What’s different about this shooting range from the ones I’ve been to before is that it’s outdoors. I love this, it feels less crowded even though there were tons of groups. Another reason is the instructors. They never leave your side. Everything feels safe and secure. The guns are locked up unless someone is shooting them. The instructors stand next to you to talk you through and they help you brace the kick back (for those who need help).
They even have trap shooting here. The pricing is different from what I’m used to as well. Normally I have to rent the lane and the gun and pay for ammo. Here, you pay to shoot whatever gun you want and pay for a specific number of rounds. They do say that you have to shoot all the rounds though; you can’t split it among your group. The only exception is the trap shooting.
The only downside was that since our group was fairly large, we spent a lot more time then I would like. Since you can only go one at a time with one instructor. You get your own card though, to keep track of what you shoot and pay that way.

This is for my noobs! Looking for fun, adventurous, gun shooting learning experience??? Come here and drive/​run to get there early! Like when they open at 10am type early. Trust me you will love this tip! Also bring about $ 100 and keep tally of your choices as they do add up!
Saturday at 8am a group of newbies road tripped to PA to enjoy a first time experience to become official shooters.
We went with an open mind and an eagerness to learn. 2 guys and 2 girls. We shot the following guns: Beretta Storm, glock 9, 38 cal revolver, 40, 45, AR 15, ARX100, Scar rifle. Tally up to 8 weapons to test out. This is why I recommend that price point above.
Here’s what to expect. When you walk in you can register as a member or rental. We did rental register. Have your driver license ready and be ready to read the disclaimer page. Sign the 1 page and possibly leave your license. You must wear protective glasses and they have glasses for those who have prescribe glasses. Now you have an option of ear muff or ear plugs. I suggest muff if shooting hand guns and plug if shooting rifles. Now they will explain rules and how your price/​score card works. DO NOT lose that card. That’s how they charge you. Once done, get your group, place on protective gear and get ready to walk out into range waiting area. If your early… NO WAIT time… Lemme repeat… GO EARLY SO YOU HAVE NO WAIT TIME. Ok great. Now an instructor will get you from waiting area and I suggest you be completely honest with them so they can recommend weapons for your experience level. Never remove protective gear and pay close attention, follow the safety rules and you will have an AMAZiNG time!!!
We had a blast! Yea pun intended. Matt was our instructor and he was cool as heck, safe and amazing with recommendations! We will return to try clay and other weapons. If this is your first time I highly suggest to give it a try. Awesome learning experience! We tipped instructor prior to washing hands and heading in to tally total bill. Love this place!

I love this place! Prices are fair, both of my visits, the instructors I had were very patient and knew what they were doing. My instructor from yesterday, El, was awesome! My friends and I had a blast!
I shot the Glock 9 mm, Glock .40, H&K USP 9 mm, Baby Eagle .40, Kriss Vector .45, and the Car-​1 assault rifle 9 mm. My new favorite handgun is the Baby Eagle .40. Love the feeling of the gun, perfect size for my hands too.
Definitely coming again before the end of the year!

Was ein Erlebnis! jeden der mal Waffen testen will, sei diese Shooting Range ans Herz gelegt! Wir waren zu zweit totale noobies und konnten durch die Klasse Anleitung vom Trainer Brian zum Schluss souverän mit Pump Gun und Sniper umgehen! Man beginnt klein und «arbeitet» sich dann hoch.
Zu jedem Zeitpunkt ist hier höchste Sicherheit angebracht, was die Trainer auch ständig vermitteln. Die 2,5h Fahrt als Umweg hat sich absolut gelohnt, wenn es zeitlich geklappt hätte, wären wir nochmal hingefahren!
