Hidden gem! Really inexpensive and great quality Korean food!

I know my bulgogi and this is one of the most tender and most flavorful one I’ve had except when my mom makes it. The shrimp fried is excellent. Must go again when I’m in this area.

I hesitate to spread the word on Si-​Star because its one of those places that you wouldn’t try unless somebody you trust sent you there. It has a loyal local following but I’ve never seen it crowded. It might be the cleanest smelling seafood store I’ve ever been in. All the retail seafood items look fresh, iced, and well cared for. The dining area isn’t much to look at but its clean and neat. The Korean couple who run the place are as nice and friendly as can be. She runs the register and he does the cooking. Over the half dozen times I’ve eaten there she’s told me what sides I should order and how many cocktail sauces I need. You will order rice with your Bulgogi or hear about it. I came in for lunch and dinner and lunch the next day and she remembered what I ordered each time. All in good fun.
The Bulgogi is the best I’ve ever had. I may have eaten in 10 Korean restaurants in my travels and this is my favorite. It is very lean, very tender, perfectly seasoned, and had that hint of charcoal flavor. It takes a minute or two longer but its worth the wait. The shrimp fried rice is excellent too. The kimchi is a favorite. I’m particularly fond of the daikon version. I wanted some of each with my bulgogi the night I was told that I had to order white rice.
I’m in the airport part of Richmond a couple of weekends a month with the National Guard. I like Si-​Star better than any of the chains in the area. I think I could eat their Bulgogi every day. With white rice of course.

Best shrimp fried rice I have ever had. Bulgogi is AMAZING as well. This place was a great find for our flight crew. We will be coming here on every overnight on Richmond.

Have gotten crab cakes and shrimp fried rice here several times to go. Generous portions and reasonably priced. Very friendly owners. You will not be disappointed.

Get the Bulgogi half the Unilocal review states, their lunch combos are very tasty said several of the Unilocal reviews and of course I get neither one of them.
I needed a quick meal before my flight and this place was within a mile and had high remarks. The place is tucked right behind IHOP and if you blink you might just miss it! The place is mainly a take out place but there are several tables for dining in. In addition to their lunch combos which include shrimp fried rice, katsu, seafood platters, etc they also carry fresh shrimp, clams, oysters, and crab if in season.
I got the shrimp platter which came with two sides, I chose rice and Kimchi. The food is made to order which I really appreciated and had to wait about 5 minutes before my food was ready. My meal costs $ 7.99 which was very reasonable considering it came with 12 sticks of shrimp. As you can see from the pictures, these are minced shrimp kabobs and not your typical fried shrimp.
The lady behind the register was really nice and recommended dishes/​sides if you didn’t know what to get. I saw two more guys in the back who did all the cooking and prepping of the fresh seafood.
Unfortunately, I was in a rush and didn’t get a chance to eat it until about 30 minutes later. The shrimp was good, but not great. It was cooked well and not dried out as I thought it would be. The kimchi kinda soaked my fried shrimp so it made it a little soggy. I am sure my shrimp platter would have tasted a lot better if I ate it almost immediately. I would definitely give this place another shot and will get the Bulgogi or shrimp fried rice next time.

Portion sizes are huge — definitely can share. Had the shrimp fried rice and had enough for 3 more meals. The price is so reasonable. Always busy. Very speedy too!

Korean bbq beef was spectacular. Also tried the fish salad had apples and celery and was fresh. I wish I lived here, I would go back. The place was very clean too. Great service.

So glad there’s a Korean takeout literally 1 minute away from my work. I wouldn’t really consider this a traditional Korean place since it’s mostly fried seafood, fries, onion rings, etc. but they do have kimchi and korean meats.
I was disappointed that they no longer have wings but the Chicken Katsu was pretty good and it was a huge portion so my tummy was happy :) Reasonable price, friendly service and big portions. I’ll be coming back here for my lunch breaks.

The first thing I always notice about a seafood store is the smell and simply put this store didn’t have one! As I looked around I saw a spotless store! Behind the counter was a man with an apron on preparing fish. And a bubbly woman spoke from behind the counter. I immediately decided that she must have been the woman that answered the phone when I got lost trying to find the place.
It’s a very small store in the same shopping center as Kroger on Laburnum. It’s right behind Puritan cleaners and hidden from the street view by IHOP. It’s really not hard to find and I feel it’s worth looking for. For around $ 10 I got half a pound of steamed spiced shrimp, 3 fried fish filets and a huge order of fries. The order was quick and within 5 minutes I had my hot food.
There’s a small seating area with about 6 or 7 small tables and a self serve seasonings area. The fresh seafood display was small and only had a few different types of fish but it was clean and well lit and for the size of the restaurant it was a respectable assortment. Definitely a small gem!

I’m on my way back to richmond for business and can’t wait to grab a quick lunch here. The food is great and the service even better.

This is a wonderful hidden treasure! We often go in to buy fresh fish to cook at home. The restaurant is always clean and fresh smelling. There is usually a decent variety of fresh fish, shrimp and scallops. They will also clean and cut your fish anyway you like.
If your looking for a quick hot meal the shrimp fried rice is delicious. Cooked in fresh non greasy oil and a good amount of fresh deveined shrimp.
The woman at the front is very sweet and never forgets a face. Reasonably priced. You can’t go wrong.

I was tired of all the airport hotel food and usual chain… this Korean place was just right answer.
I showed up just minutes before closing, the owner was already taking a part stove for deep cleaning (great sign that they care cleanness of kitchen). He and his wife didn’t show any reluctance, instead with full of smile took my order, reassembled stove, and start cooking. And keep in mind bugogi could be messy. That was simply a nice gesture and shows their good personality which reflected on quality of food.
Food: great, awesome, home style Korean. Great portion and well marinated with right fresh ingredient.
This place also sells fish, great price and looked fresh (wish my hotel room had kitchen.)
There are several table and chairs to dine in.
I highly recommend this joint if you are stuck near airport.

You need to try this place! I’ll bet you become a regular. The seafood is fresh, cooked properly and just down right tasty. You can’t beat the prices either. For just under $ 10 I got the fish and shrimp and I could not finish it.
The family that runs it is also great, the lady is so sweet and makes sure you are a happy customer. I didn’t try any of the Korean dishes this time but if the seafood is any indication it should be excellent.

Superb. Fish is fresh, the shrimp and scallops were deep fried but not oily, the kimchi with the white rice was just great.

This is a great little dive and if you are in the area you should stop in! Don’t let the tiny size and the location scare you away. It’s tucked behind the IHOP, across from a Jiffy Lube and a place selling hair.
SiStar has a fried seafood menu with a small Asian menu. I had the Bulgogi with kimchi and rice and it was delicious. Husband and kiddos had fried shrimp with fries. The proprietor also brought out some tater tots and dumplings as an appetizer. The portion of shrimp was HUGE, both kids and the husband could have split it. It was also very very fresh.
I couldn’t eat all my Bulgogi and I hurt the proprietor’s feelings, she was asking me if anything was wrong and chastising me. It was very funny, I had to reassure multiple times that it was delicious but I did not have a big appetite.
This is not a fancy place, if you object to eating out of styrofoam with plastic utensils pick another place. It smells like frying oil and seafood, you get your drink from a drink frig and take it to your table. The food is good, proprietor is welcoming, place is clean and I like an adventure.

This place is tucked behind IHOP. They have a good selection of lunch specials priced between $ 5 and $ 7. I had the shrimp fried rice. It was cooked to order right in front of me. There were a lot of shrimp in it and it tasted good.
Next time I will try the fish. It looked fresh and smelled good while they were cooking it. For $ 5.99 you get 3 large pieces of fish, fries and coleslaw.

I would be really hard pressed to call this a Korean place, because aside from the Korean owners, there were only five dishes under the «Korean Food» category. And of the five dishes, only bulgogi was truly Korean (I didn’t see the kalbi on the menu mentioned in other Unilocal reviews), since katsu and teriyaki are really more Japanese (and teriyaki perhaps arguably Japanese-​American). Most of the other menu items are seafood items that you would find at a seafood fast food joint.
Nevertheless, the Korean lady working the register (and co-​owner alongside the Korean male cook) was extremely friendly. She strongly suggested bulgogi with kimchi and rice as sides. She asked if I was Korean, but I said I was Taiwanese. I occasionally get asked, because even among Asians I guess I can be a bit ambiguous-​looking, plus I’ve been told that my pronunciation of Korean words is fairly good (and I must have said «bulgogi» very accurately). =P
Without a doubt, the food was very tasty. It took a while since they grilled the bulgogi to order, but it was very fresh as a result. The portion was also very generous, and I saw from other people’s orders that this is true for fried seafood dishes as well.
The restaurant itself is very simple, and although there are a few tables, I think the majority of customers get takeout.
Overall, this wouldn’t be my go to for Korean food, but service is great and quick!

Korean BBQ as good as it gets
Behind the IHOP, there’s a little shop called SiStar Seafood. While fresh fish is on display, the star is the Korean BBQ.
Between the kalbi and the bulgogi, I chose the bulgogi ($ 10). My mistake was leaving the container on the drive home. The smell of bbq filled the car.
I came home to tender, marinated beef paired with crunchy kimchi as good as they make it in LA and Seoul and big enough for two. Korean bbq and kimchi are both acquired tastes. The beef is slightly sweet and the kimchi is seriously spicy. Definitely worth a try.
