Escape Nails and Spa

I popped in here with my 5 month old in a Friday just before lunch. Got in immediately which was awesome. They asked me which type of pedi I wanted, so I said the basic. Again, 5 month old with me (whom sits very quietly for about 45 mins), I needed quick but efficient. This place is over priced for what you get. Basic pedi for 35 bucks, but yet I still have rough heels. she used the pumice for MAYBE 10 seconds on each foot. Paint job was great, but the «softening» of my heel was not done at all. Bc after all here, if you want your heels soft, you pay extra. OK. No thank you. Not coming back.

Visiting Richmond for a graduation and found Escape after Beauty Nails didn’t honor our appointment. Best thing that could have happened. Christine welcomed us and immediately put us with techs for manicures and pedicures. I had an amazing «milk and honey» manicure with Vivian. It was a little pricey at $ 30 but well worth it. It includes a scrub and longer massage with lotion and oil. I would definitely recommend Escape. It’s clean, everyone is friendly, they have lots of polish options and with plenty of people working the wait was minimal. They also provide complimentary refreshments. Can’t beat a mani with Bubbles. I will come back if I’m ever in Richmond.

What a wonderful spot in the Richmond area. My girlfriend and I went late on a Saturday and they didn’t mind at all that we wanted a mani-​pedi. When we sat down for our pedicures, we were given a choice of drink and small appetizer, the champagne and fruit was delicious. The facility is super clean and everyone was friendly and professional. If you haven’t been here, I highly recommend it. The cost was superb for the service. I didn’t feel like it was too expensive at all.

Been here once, they do a sloppy job and my acrylic broke within 4 days. I want to give it a second chance but after reading similair reviews i dont think i will. I paid about 60 for gela and acrylics which is expensive and i had 2 drinks (i wouldnt mind paying that much if my nails didnt break.) Sad because the location and interior design is nice. My nail tech was a guy and very nice, but come on :/

I walked out of this place. The woman at the front desk is RUDE when you ask simple questions about pricing. They will charge an additional $ 4 to CUT DOWN YOUR NAILS. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

I decided to go in for a fill-​in, upon walking in I was greeted, which was fine. I picked a color and the greeter showed me to my seat. So a lady named Sophie or Sophia came out the back to do my nails. She was nice, she took my drink order, and proceeded to take my gel color off. She pulled out regular acrylic, I explained to her it was pink powder acrylic, and if they had that I would prefer to stick with that. She smiled and said oh… Ok so she goes on and finishes my nails, they look nice, I have no complaints. She pulls out her little receipt book and she does not know what to charge me, then she pulls out the little brochure with the prices on it. I asked her how much did I owe as I’m under the UV lamp. She said IDK, and gets up and walks off. So then after my nails are dry I get up and walk up front and the older guy said you owe $ 59. So I said «what was the $ 59 for he said $ 35 for the pink powder and $ 25 for the gel polish. Ok guys huge ripoff bc I can buy opi gel polish for 10.00 a bottle. And another thing their math was off it should have been $ 60. But I paid it bc I was going somewhere and needed my nails done. They get 2 stars but I will be returning to my regular salon that I could get a fill in + a pedicure for $ 60. If I can avoid it I will not be returning here to be ripped off bc that’s just pure robbery.

This is the second time I’ve been here. I didn’t enjoy my first visit but just thought they were having a bad day. As I just walked out of my second visit I realize that they actually aren’t amazing and need to do better. A simple gel manicure has turned into uneven nail shapes, aggressive cuticle clipping that resulted in pain and breaking the skin and not to mention my non energetic manicurist who doesn’t seem to like his job at all. I just wanted a great manicure. All the cheese and crackers and fruit and cookies and wine is great, but I think the owners need to invest back into their business by training these young people on what actual customer service is. Nice décor, service needs work!!!

Unfamiliar with nail salons on the West end, my best friend and I decided to pop in for my birthday mani/​pedi with my daughter because she had heard good things and that they also treated you with beverage of your choice during services.
We arrived a little after 2pm and were told that it would be about a 10 minute wait. The receptionist /​greeter was if not cool, borderline rude. We waited patiently (including my 4 year old — who was thrilled with her first «spa day» experience with mommy) for service. We asked about different services a few times and were given curt responses. I additionally asked that while my daughter did not need the full workup for pedicure, would they mind just making her feel like she was getting one with a little foot massage and extra attention.
We were finally called back to our seats — I would say at least after a 25 – 30 minute wait. Upon climbing into my prepped seat, I found my foot spa water was frigid. When I asked the same greeter that set us up to fix it, she just drained whatever «blue treatment» water was in there and added a splash of regular water to make it slightly warmer. I started toying with my own water & finally got the mix right (with no offers of help from staff) and lost most of whatever made it blue.
My daughter, of course envious, asked if she could have some water. So I added a little splash of warm water at which point one of the technicians came over to help adjust and get it set for her… enough to cover her feet & put the spa on (kudos to that sweet girl). After about sitting there for about 15 minutes in the seats, our beverage orders were finally taken. Shortly thereafter, the same greeter came over and asked if my daughter was having a full pedicure — to which I replied no. She unceremoniously unplugged her little foot spa and hurried the water down the drain. That was when I thought my head was about to pop off. I could handle everything else up to that point readily. But do not treat my sweet little girl like a second class citizen. By then the server came along with our drinks and we politely explained that we were leaving… at which point he started to complain about our drinks — a water for my pregnant friend & a glass of celebratory white for me.
I did not give the greeter the full rundown, but told her that we had waited far too long for service and that I could not comprehend why simply allowing Alex to dip her feet in warm water was such an aggravation. She explained, no full pedicure — no water and that’s their spa policy.
I’m sorry to say that Escape Nails & Spa has confused snotty reception and alcohol service with a highly prized customer service experience. Too boot — the services seemed very pricey for what you get. It was 3pm when I got back in my car — just under an hour with no true services rendered. Keep the wine (i have a whole fridge of it at home — thank you) and learn how to make customers feel welcome and pampered while learning to bend the rules when appropriate. I will give them credit for décor and atmosphere… if the greeter /​server had not been such assholes, the spa would have been lovely & relaxing.
We promptly crossed Broad street to New Lady Nails (my BFFs regular nail location) where they gave Alex a full pedicure (minus cuticle trimming), toe & nail painting and made us both feel pampered — $ 15 for Alex and $ 35 for my hot stone massage & scrub pedi along with manicure & buffing (no fingernail polish). Much less to-​do, but far better service — which is more important in my book!!!

Enjoyed this evening with my daughter. she’s getting married and all of her bridesmaids and maid of honor and the mother of the groom and myself had a excellent and wonderful day here at the spa getting nails and toes done. All I can say is who what A wonderful experience this evening I totally recommend coming here at escape nail and spa in Short Pump Virginia and I we’ll come here again.

I have been to this location 4 times now. Usually to get my eyebrows done bc the younger girls that work there do the bessssst job.
A brief overview, this place is pricey but you get your money’s worth. You’re greeted with a choice of beverage and a snack or either fresh fruit or cheese and crackers. Beverages include wine so A+ there.
Everything also comes with a massage. When you get an manicure you get a back massage as well as a hand/​arm massage. Eyebrows include in a temple/​face massage (my favorite).
With that said, the only reason I am giving this place 4 stars instead of 5 is because some of their technicians do so poorly compared to others and it really blows when you get the bad ones. For example, I had an Amy last time who spent less than 30 seconds on my back massage and basically skipped the face massage after she did my eyebrows. My eyebrows don’t look good by any means and homegirl was the roughest when giving a manicure.
I’m not one to complain either but if I’m spending 70 $ for an eyebrow wax and a gel manicure give me the perks I came for cha feel me?
So all in all, beautiful salon and great service of you get the right technician. I know now who to request after going a few times but maybe scan the comments for who is good before going because it really can be an awesome experience.

Amazing service BUT too expensive! I will definitely be back but will have to plan ahead next time! The wine and crackers are such a great touch. I had John for. Pedicure and Sophia for a Fill. Both wonderful and went above and beyond.

Back again!!! Love this place. They give great service and are super nice! I haven’t met anyone yet who hasn’t been absolutely amazing!

This is a nice salon. The quality varies a bit from good to excellent, depending on who you get. Andy gives the best pedi — especially a foot rub — in Short Pump. I go with girlfriends and my daughters — they can cater to a wide range. And I do enjoy a glass of wine with my pedi so I truly appreciate Escape making everyone step up their game.

I saw so many great reviews for this place so I thought I’d give it a shot. I received a regular pedicure and a shellac manicure. I didn’t find the receptionist all that welcoming and the lady giving me a pedicure was not all that sociable either; not that they’re required to talk but I didn’t feel very comfortable if that makes sense but the actual pedicure came out very nice.
As for the manicure I am not satisfied. After only six days of receiving my manicure the shellac has already cracked. I am thinking this happened because at first she had me stick my hand in the regular light under the nail table for them to dry because she was having issues with the UV light. I didn’t use that until about halfway through my manicure. I paid a total of $ 87, ($ 50 for mani-​I know ridiculous for a fill right?, $ 30 for pedi, $ 7 for callus removal) which I also think it’s a rip off because I only got a fill and I never was offered any type of beverage or fruit if that was supposed to be included I don’t know. I was there when they first opened and it took about four hours to leave that place! I will not be returning.

The massages (that you pay for separately) are really terrible. I’ve tried twice now and both times were super awkward and didn’t feel good at all.

Okay, I’m back and upgrading my four to a five! I’m a regular here now and can’t help but be impressed with the way they run this spa.
I can go a full two weeks, two and a half if I stretch, with my shellac. And then it needs replacing only because of nail growth.
I now see Vanessa. Nothing against Amber, Vanessa’s schedule just seems to work better with mine. And Vanessa is absolutely AWESOME. I can’t imagine letting anyone else touch my nails now. Her pedicures can’t be beat either. AND since she knows I can’t have a brow wax due to medication, she hand tweezes my brows as well. SCORE!
I love that this place is a quick drive from my home. But truth be told, I would drive an hour if I had to.

This place is everything an upscale nail spa should be. But for $ 30 a pedicure. This place is amazing. They serve, drinks, snacks, people who listen to you, calming music, and SO MUCH more. I know its hard to find a good place with so many out there, but trust me ladies and gentleman. Come here!

The place:
When you walk into this place, you automatically feel like your in an oasis. The décor and set up is definitely a step up from the regular places in Richmond. They have lots of color option across the wall and they have make-​up for purchase to the left when you walk inside. I did not see a larger sign for customers to view the services/​prices etc., so you have to ask for a list to glance over. The front counter has a glass partition behind it, so that you cannot see the customers being serviced. You can see the customers if you stand to the sides of the partition. When you walk back behind the service counter, there are 2 rooms built to the right and this is where they have the pedicure chairs. In the main room is where they do fingernails. The pedicure rooms are dimly lit; the chairs are nice and comfortable; and the do have the automatic massage chairs. Towards the back of the spa, there is a bar that has different wines stacked around and they have wine glasses etc. The atmosphere was calming and not noisy (but I did go on lunch break, so not sure what it’s like during prime hours).
The services:
I opted to get the milk and honey pedicure ($ 50). The services menu is SOOOOOO overwhelming (I actually think they should cut some stuff out because it takes forever to look at everything and decide on something, if its your first time). I actually would have gotten something else, but I was annoyed at their menu and just ended up asking the receptionist to pick out one of the most popular pedicures for me. They offer you complimentary fruit or cheese and water or wine. I think that is a nice touch. Because I am on my feet all day, I wanted to make sure I got a pedicure package that included a 15 minute foot massage– and the milk and honey package did! The girl that did my foot massage did an awesome job-​I didn’t want her to stop! I felt like the paint job was very average and not as neat as some of the places who cost much less. One thing that bothered me was the girl doing my nails, had the front of her hair down and her hair was constantly touching my feet the entire time and it grossed me out and should have grossed her out! lol (she should have pulled her hair all the way back). Otherwise, the staff was nice and welcoming-​so kudos on that.
Overall:
I think that this place is great for a girls day or special occasion. I think the $ 50 price tag for the pedicure I received was not worth it. I wouldn’t come here regularly, because the paint job was not as neat as I would have liked it to be. But I would certainly return with friends/​family, especially if they are from out of town. It is one of the nicer places in Richmond and that is what you are ultimately paying for –because their technique does not stand above any of the other shops here IMO. Definitely give them a try and see for yourself.

I know I’m in the minority here with 2 stars, but the experience I had at Escape Nails unfortunately wasn’t nice enough to make me want to go back.
Let’s get something out of the way. I know that I was kind of cray cray for having the urge to get my nails done the day before Easter. Everybody and their mama was out, the weather was nice, and we ladies needed to get our primp on so that we could be at our best for Easter service the next day. I went to my normal nail salon and lo and behold, they had to turn me away because they were completely booked and could not handle walk ins. Good for them, I said! I’ll find somewhere else to get a quick mani, I said. It would be great, I said…
Well, I opened up Unilocal and saw that I wasn’t too far away from another super highly rated salon (Escape) so I decided to give it a go. I’m not going to even try to deny how gorgeous this salon is. I’ve never seen anything like it in Richmond. The back wall is stocked with wine, which comes complimentary with services, the bathroom is gorgeous (a plus!), and there is a very wide variety of colors to choose from.
Ok, I’ll cut to the chase. Basically, the receptionist did not give off a very welcoming tone. She was obviously frazzled, which I understand, but to me she should have at least been able to answer basic questions about the wait time. Every time somebody came in all she could say was «I don’t know», not «I’ll find out for you». Shoot, she could have made something up for all I care! I was just shocked because I’d never heard anyone flat out say they didn’t know without at least trying to figure out how long the wait was. Then, she told me she could fit me in and not to leave, but I ended up sitting in the service chair and waiting a little over an hour. This was fine because on such a busy day I expected to wait, but nobody followed up with me after that to say if I was next. I just sat there.
Fastforward to the service. I picked out a color that was supposed to be pink. When he did my nails he promised that after 4 coats it would look like the pink color on the outside of the bottle, but now I’m sitting here with white nails. It’s not the worst thing in the world because white nails are in this season, but I wanted pink. It did bug me a little that he didn’t offer to let me go pick out a darker color or apologize for that color being faulty. He just kept trucking along. Oh, and the paint job isn’t really worth the price that I paid for it either. :-/​It was almost as if they serve the wine and give you fruit to make up for the shotty customer service.
Sorry, Escape Nails. I might give you another chance in the future, but for now I’ll stick to my favorite!
