Specialties

Portside Java is a specialty coffee roaster located in Hendersonville, TN. Using the finest Arabica coffee beans, roasted in small batches, we bring out the varietals’ best aroma, taste and flavor. Our specialty coffee is shipped fresh as Whole Beans or ground for the brewing method specified by the purchaser; ie: French Press, AeroPress, Pour Over, Cold Press, Espresso, to name a few. We also stock, and demonstrate, these types of coffee brewing equipment so you can brew a great cup at home.

For home coffee roasters we are happy to supply green coffee beans from our inventory of 100% Arabica coffee. Select coffee from Africa, Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Colombia, Brazil, and Indonesia. Some are certified coffees carrying the designation of Certified ORGANIC, Fair Trade Coffee, and Rainforest Alliance Certified. We also offer non-​chemical, water processed, decaffeinated coffee.

We welcome you to our roaster & offer free cups of coffee for you to sample.

History

Established in 2011.

When Captain Howard retired from the sea and started his life portside the idea for Portside Java was formed. Combining his love of coffee and the sea with a desire to serve, he and his wife started Portside Java with the simple premise of helping people keep there dreams alive. Can you think of anything better than sitting with friends or family and discussing your hopes and dreams over a good cup of coffee? Us either.

Business Owner

Scott, AKA The Captain retired from the sea in 2011 but was not ready to be retired. Looking for something to do the Captain thought he would combine his love of coffee and people with his new life «Portside». Believing the best things in life are those shared with family, friends and others, he and wife of 36 years founded Portside Java to «Help keep dreams alive». Sharing our hopes and dreams with friends or family over a good cup of coffee is one of life’s great pleasures.

Scott still holds a United States Coast Guard, Masters License. He operated vessels in the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway from Norfolk, VA to St. Augustine, FL. The Hudson River, Chesapeake Bay, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, Block Island, Bermuda, U.S. and British Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Gulf of Mexico, Gulf Intracoastal Waterway, Mississippi River, St. Johns River, and the Cumberland River.
