Been donating for YEARS and the only reason I don’t give 5 stars is because UBS is starting to get VERY cheap with everything they do for donors, now. I donate platelets and 3 units a pop, at that. You’d think they would keep drinks and snacks that donors wanted and also keep giving out rewards for your donations. If they continue being cheap, I’ll just start going to red cross drives.
The STAFF are always great. Professional, courteous, funny and accommodating. They need to pay them more. ;)

My first time here was a favor to a friend of mine. I said «sure, why not». After that, I was hooked! I have been back several times and the staff is great. Very professional and very friendly.
I think I found a new hobby that doesn’t cost me anything, only take about an hour and a half and saves lives!

UBS is the most annoying incopetent organization I have ever encountered. I had heart surgery, and am on blood thinner. and still they call or email me all the time. I have spoken to them many times to no avail. They are rude and insincere,

My FIRST time donating blood ever and I couldn’t have had a smoother experience than this. From start to finish the personnel make you feel comfortable and they’re very pleasant. I’ve checked out other blood donation places and they’re nowhere near as organized and cleaner than this place. This location is impeccably neat.

After seeing the horrific and surreal murder attempt of 38 people from a lady driving her car into innocent pedestrians on The Strip last week, I was reminded of the importance of donating blood.
Also an added incentive posted in the Unilocal Event section offering a voucher for 2 people to attend Penn & Teller magic show @ The Rio for those who donate blood through January 1^st, 2016.
This past Tuesday afternoon I called and scheduled my donation appointment for the following afternoon. I arrived late! I am never late! Well this time I was late! Excuses, Excuses… because it was dark outside and I was unfamiliar with this UBS (United Blood Services) location.
TIP 1: UBS is hard to find in the dark as the building is not well lit. Located @ the NW corner of Sunset & Whitney Ranch in the Quail Bonita Business Park.
Upon check-​in from the friendly receptionist, it was less than a 10 minute wait to be called for my «interview» where I was questioned in a private room about my medical history. After a 3 minute multiple choice test on their computer and a pin prick of my finger to test my iron levels, I successfully advanced to the 1200 SF open room for blood donation.
Vampires were all disguised in medical uniforms awaiting willing victims w/​16 guage needles. This previous sentence was my strange way of being funny :-) The professionalism by a friendly lady named Taylor, who was my interviewer and phlebotomist, led to my donation of 1 pint of whole blood to help those in need. The large needle did not hurt and as I type this review 2 days later, my arm is not bruised. Thanks Taylor for a professional job well done!
TIP 2: In addition to the daily need for all blood types, there is an urgent need for Type O-​.
Following the donation, I was offered several color choices of bandage from a spectrum of the rainbow. I chose my favorite color, Red!
Lastly, there is a 15 minute waiting period to enjoy refreshments of Oreos, oatmeal raisin and chocolate chip cookies, along w/​pretzels and wheat thins. Plenty of bottled waters and little juices available too.
I feel very good about my blood donation, as it was the nicest thing I have offered others this entire calendar year!
TIP 3: Free WiFi
I look forward to enjoying the Penn & Teller magic show w/​my son over this Christmas break from school and in 8 weeks will return for another blood donation to help those in need.

2015 Review #306

For the last couple of years I have donated every two months. I have been to this location two times and I have had a great experience both times. There are always a lot of appointments available online and their hours are very reasonable. Keep in mind you can do walk-​ins as well, but you earn more reward points if you make an appointment online and follow through with it.
I usually donate red blood cells and plasma, so I do get my platelets returned to me, and one time at another location the stick wasn’t right and I ended up blowing a vein. So I’m always a little nervous, but both of my experiences at this location my stick has been flawless.
All of the workers are super nice and helpful. The room is really cold but they have blankets and heating pads if you need. The have ample of snacks and drinks during your post donation wait. And as added bonuses they have flat screen TV showing local shows or games during your donation.
They are always in need of donations and if you are willing and able to donate please do! :)

I totally love this place. The staff aka «blood suckers» are awesome. From the first time I set foot on this location until present, they always treat me with the best service you could possibly get from any facility like this in town. I mean they offer you a blanket, a movie to watch especially if you have one of those 2 hour «blood sucking» sessions. They check your blood pressure and even give you your cholesterol results. Before, during and after your donations, they offer you snack and beverage which is always a plus for me. Plus as a blood donor you not only help save peoples lives who highly depend on other’s blood for survival, as a donor you also get rewarded points for showing up, participating and actually donating blood and you can save those points and order stuff from their Rewards program like movie tickets, ice cream, t-​shirts, gift cards and etc.
For those of you who like to give for donations but don’t have the funds or the materials to donate, this place would be an ideal place for you. Did I mention the staff who take your blood handle your blood with extreme care and the actual location is extremely clean.

I donate blood here 3 – 4 times a year. The staff is always attentive and pleasant, and they make sure you are comfortable. They’ve always been well staffed so I’ve never had to wait more than a couple of minutes in the waiting area. They are very well stocked with post-​donation goodies: a great assortment of juices, water, and cookies. Donating blood is easy and pretty painless, and it saves lives. Plus afterwards you get to take it easy the rest of the day, and make your next meal a hearty one :)

Funny, SKILLED and are quick with the draw :)
Usually has a few promotions, although I’m never aware until I leave the facility.
I do it every couple of months and am able to fill out the health history questionnaire in their office prior to my appointment.

I give blood regularly. This is my go to spot. They usually get you in with little or no wait. I always make an appt online but have seen people come in as walk-​ins and they don’t seem to wait much longer then ones with an appt. For the most part everyone is very nice. There are a few cranky ones but I guess that is anywhere. They usually have a promotion where you get some kind of freebie for coming in. You get it even if you don’t donate for whatever reason, low iron, etc. I always feel guilty when I can’t donate but they are really nice about it.
Once you donate you will be on their list and they will call you to ask you to donate again. You can let them know not to call and they will only contact via email. I do this cause the calls can get annoying.

Apart from this office just being a hot mess to find — regardless of how great Google Maps /​GPS thinks it is. (I do miss the old location because it was right off of Eastern and near my house.)
Anyway, I’ve donated here a couple times this year yet I’ve never had any problems. The people are nice and pretty accommodating. I saw a girl have a seizure because she didn’t tell them that she has some sort of condition. She then bragged about the fact that «hehehe this happens all the time.» I feel so bad for the staff that has to put up with people like her.
I donate singles and double reds and I usually have reactions to the sodium nitrate, but they load me up with blankets and heating pads so it’s all good. Twice one of the techs has had to hold my arm while I’ve given blood because my arm goes numb — but again, they take care of you.
Overall, I don’t have any problems with UBS so I continue to donate. They also give you free show tickets and points for free stuff like movies (but I never use my points.)

Giving blood just seems like such an easy way to put some good into the country (UBS ships the blood they collect all over the country!), so I do it every 8 weeks.
This location is a little difficult to find, as it’s in an office park that is totally empty all the time, all the way in the corner. It’s very clean and the staff there are very nice (I had a terrible experience at the W Charleston center, where the staff is rude). I have had an experience at this location that was inconvenient, but was chalked up to a new tech not knowing all the donation options.
Here’s what to expect:
1. Your blood pressure, temperature and pulse will be taken. Your pulse must be under 100 bpm (hot weather increases pulse). If any of these are too high, you can’t donate that day.
2. Your iron level will be tested with a prick on your finger. If your iron is too low, you can’t donate.
3. There are 3 options for donation: whole blood, plasma and double red cell. Anyone can donate whole blood, although it makes many people woozy. Plasma can be donated by anyone who has never been pregnant. Double red cell requires you to be at least 5’5″ and 150+ pounds. The last two options are the easiest on your body.
4. Your arms will be checked for lesions. If you have anything that could be construed as a needle mark, they will reject you.
5. You’ll be asked some semi-​uncomfortable questions about sex, but they’re simply part of the screening process.
6. They’ll do their best to make you comfy with blankets, heating pads, ice, refreshments, etc.
7. Whole blood takes about 20 minutes. Plasma takes about 30 minutes. Double red takes about 2 hours. (These times are for actual donation only. The interview, set-​up and post-​donation resting period/​snack fest take more time)
8. Every time you go, regardless of whether you’re able to donate or not, you’ll receive a «prize», generally tickets to something (a 51s game, this time!).
All in all, giving blood is the least I can do and the people here make it as easy and painless as possible!

The staff is great and they were all about making sure I was comfortable. They willingly provided warm packs to me since I have a hard time keeping my hands warm when giving blood. The only reason I gave this place a 4 rating instead of a 5 on this visit is that it took over an hour from walking in before they got me started with one of the machines to collect platelets and that they did seem just a little disorganized during my 3 hour visit.

Here are the DO’s and DON’Ts…
DO get over ur fear of needles. …cuz someday you, a loved one, or a friend might need a blood transfusion and you should be cognizant that that blood came from a donor so… DO Pay it Forward!
DON’T forget to bring picture ID… duh?! It’s self explanatory.
DO be sure to eat a high protein meal (w/​Vit C) the night before your donation. DON’T consume caffeine or anything that might decrease iron absorption.
DO expect a mini-​physical… it’s a current reading of your vital signs – temp, HR, BP. DON’T worry… u’ll get ur cholesterol level too… just gotta look at ur online profile.
Also… DO know that donating blood helps to lower your blood pressure!!! Yay!
DO make a pit stop at the restroom… cuz having the urge to pee while sitting in the cold donation room really sucks!
DON’T be impatient. It takes about 15 minutes (or less) to fill a pint. …faster for athletes, longer for less active folks.
DO load up on the FREE snacks! They are individually packaged, so… DON’T forget to pack a few to bring home!
DO remember to stay hydrated throughout the day!
DON’T forget that the bandage must stay on for at least 4 – 6 hours! …or else you’ll end up blood staining your clothes!
Lastly, DO consider donating platelets on your next donation.
And, DON’T forget that paying it forward means donating more than once!

This place sucks… get it??? because they take blood here… Alright, I am a regular donor at United Blood services. The people working here could not be more pleasent.
