History

Established in 1988.

Fred Redfern moved to Henderson in 1968 when his father opened a general surgery practice. Dr. Redfern was able to go to the University of Southern California on a Trustee Scholarship, the first one offered to a Nevadan. He studied through the engineering honors program, specifically biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering in regards to orthopedic surgery. He wrote a paper on total hip replacement at 18. Dr. Redfern attended medical school at the University of Nevada, and then completed his orthopedic surgery residency at his alma mater, the University of Southern California.

He has been able to conduct research through the years on joint replacement, fracture treatment, and sports medicine, as well as bone grafting, arthroscopic shoulder and knee reconstruction, and venous thromboembolism prevention. Dr. Redfern’s engineering background and research experience has enabled him to incorporate and understand new beneficial technologies as they are introduced.
