The message at Red Newt Cellars is simple: grown here, made here. The focus is not only to craft regionally expressive, award-winning wines and innovative, locally sourced cuisine, but also to create a synergy between them.
As a true Finger Lakes experience, the driving force behind the Winery & Bistro is the commitment to community: supporting area farmers by showcasing the best of the region with an ever-changing menu tailored to reflect the seasons and paired with an exclusively Finger Lakes wine list with over 200+ selections.
History
Established in 1999.
Red Newt Cellars Winery & Bistro, located in Hector, NY on the east side of Seneca Lake, was founded in June 1998 by David and Debra Whiting. Wine production was started with the 1998 vintage with a mere 1,200 cases. More than a decade later, with a booming case production of 30,000 white and red varietals and an ever-changing menu tailored to reflect the seasonal bounty of the Finger Lakes, Red Newt Cellars represents the achievement of the Whiting’s longtime goal to combine their efforts and expertise in the exploration of regional wine and cuisine. Their vision was not only to create broad recognition of the Finger Lakes as a world class wine and culinary destination but also to showcase their commitment to community by creating mutually beneficial relationships between local farmers and restaurateurs; hence, spearheading the locavore movement in the region. Today, the team of winemakers and chefs have successfully branded Red Newt Cellars as an innovative leader in the FLX region.
