IEI carries lots of components, parts and specialty items that used to be available @ Radio Shack in the 80’s and 90’s. If you are a hobbyist or someone who likes to tinker with electronics, this is your place. It’s fun to browse the store! They have a good selection of pro-​audio, car audio and home theater items plus DVD’s.
Because of their «all sales are final» return policy, I would be apprehensive about buying big ticket items from them. It’s a good store as long as know exactly what you need before buying it.

IEI use to be a really good place. They use to have good deals on car audio systems. But now you figure, prices would go down since there are no speciality stores anymore, not here. Bestbuy seems to have better pricing not only in audio but TVs as well. And there are no longer friendly customer service anymore. I stop by here and there to check out there clearance and not in the past 3 times I’ve gone was i even acknowledge. Oh, besides the fact I was touching an expensive TV which they probably thought I was breaking. I think they are still around since they deal in bulk for independent companies. Just ashame for the downfall.

Horrible horrible customer service. They maintain absolutely no records. I purchased and had installed a car stereo/​GPS system with a backup camera. I spent well in excess of $ 1,000. When the GPS stopped «talking» I brought my car back to have it sent back to the manufacturer for repair. After being through Tropical Storm Sandy I must have lost my receipt. They claimed despite recognizing me and the car they would not send it back as «they don’t have any records».

Interstate Electronics is an excellent source for electronic devices, assistance, and information.

I have always wanted to browse though Interstate Electronics (IEI) but I have just never got around to it. However, I recently had to visit NJ DMV that is located right next store so I took the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone.
What a cool store. There is stuff all over the place. If you are looking for a cable or a connector this is the place to come. They have lots of DVDs but no CDs. They have a good selection of audio/​visual products. They also have lots of other stuff like radar detectors, radios and walkie talkies.
On of the things I like about living in New Jersey is that the Big Box retailers are not the only choice. There are plenty of local retailers that have been able to stay in business by providing both good product and good customer service.
