The market itself is outdated but friendly staff. Good organic selection of veggies/​fresh products. Overall, I’d go there again.

I’ve been shopping here since they first opened.
Yes, a few years ago they expanded but I don’t think it did much good. It did give the store more space for organic & healthier food but there isn’t that much more organic food than there was. There are now 6 more u-​scan tellers.
It still is true that there are carts all over the parking lot. Perhaps if employees didn’t allow them to sit by the sidewalk, people couldn’t run off with them as easily.
However, there are a lot of really nasty employees who ignore you when you ask them a question. Then there are the REALLY rude ones. One night, I went in there & asked a stock guy in the coffee aisle if they carried a brand of coffee. He looked at me like I was crazy & said, «How the hell should I know? Don’t you? You should! You’re here every single day!»
They have a water island with distilled water right next to the organic food. However, the average cashier doesn’t seem to be aware of that. When I go to the checkout, half of the time, they accuse me of tearing off the label of one from the water aisle. So I explain that I brought it from home & tore the label off so that they can’t scan it.
Then there’s the u-​scan attendants. The line actually moves pretty quickly because they have 6 machines. But if the attendants can’t handle all the tasks at once, maybe they should have 2 attendants. Many times, I stood there with my water refill, & getting ignored. One time was with Kristie. She completely ignored me. She eventually said, «Ma’am! There are people behind you! You’re going to pay & leave!» I told her that I’d been waiting 5 minutes and clicked «call attendant.»
She said, «That doesn’t work. I thought you were just thinking.» OK. So I was just standing there for 5 minutes, staring at you, with my water jug in my hand, occasionally looking at my watch but the entire time, I was just thinking? And if they don’t work, why doesn’t the manager fix them or just remove the «call attendant» feature altogether? Then she had the audacity to scream at me & say, «Don’t you talk to me like that! I’m not your child!» Well then, don’t ignore me for 5 entire minutes while I stare at you while holding my water bottle & if you don’t want people screaming at you, then don’t scream at them first.
Then the security guards. Oh my! They have, I think one nice one, who I haven’t seen in a while.
There is a younger, black girl as a security guard who I always smile at her & say hi when I pass by. She always gives me a dirty look, as if I have no business speaking to her. One night, they were closing soon & there were about 4 or 5 of us at the u-​scans. There was this lady next to me & two waiting. The other 4 had been turned off. This security guard comes along & yells at this girl, «Move it along! You’re not bagging fast enough!» I couldn’t believe my ears! I’ll never forget it. The girl was obviously upset, & started throwing her products in said, «I’m sorry!» So I just decided to get there earlier.
Three months ago, a security guard stopped me when my vitamins set off the security alarm. He kept asking me the same question, «Did you buy something just now?» I said yes, «Do you want to look in my bag?» Again, asks the same question. I show him my my receipt. Again, asks the same question. He asked me this same question about 10 times. After I took out each item & found that it was the vitamins, I said, «Can I go now?» He laughed & said, «Yeah. I wouldn’t have given you a hard time if they were in a Kroger bag.» It was so aweful, I still cannot forget this.
I decided I’ll make sure the cashier deactivates the security sticker on vitamins & basically the store is OK & only ¼ miles away.
2 months ago, as I was about to walk out, the security guard asked to see my receipt & for me to empty my bags. Everything in my bags was on my receipt. So he let me go. He said someone told him that I put something in my bag while shopping, which which I never do. I reported this & they said they had the wrong person. I thought, «If I keep getting stopped by security for something I’m not doing, I’m going to stop going there.» I thought, «Just one more time.» I never get accused at other stores.
For a while, things were fine until 2 days ago. I went to the u-​scan & I decided I didn’t want something. After paying, I walked up to the attendant to hand it to her. She ignored me & kept chitchatting. I walked away & put it in the cart with the other returns. As I was walking out, the security guard confronts me & says he needs to see my receipt. Again, someone told him I took something & put it in my bag.
Well now! That’s 3 strikes & you’re out! I’m sick of this store. I’ve decided it really IS worth taking a bus to Western Market & Holiday Market instead of just walking a few streets.
Don’t go unless you must & definitely don’t use their u-​scans since they have there returns right there & you’ll probably get accused of pocketing something. I give them 1 star since they actually have food.

They have an entire aisle for vegans. I shop here all the time. They have everything I need. Fresh produce always stocked well.

I shop here at least once a week. The fresh produce department and the dairy department are always well-​stocked and I can always find what I’m after. If I can’t, there’s always a helpful Krogers worker nearby to lend a hand.
Previously, I gave a good review of this store. But lately I’ve been losing patience with the way the rest of the place is run. Whoever is in charge of stocking the canned vegetables, cereals, teas, etc, is falling down on the job. As regularly happens, I was unable today to find three common items I went there to get because the shelves were bare! In addition to the common items, I always look for a 1 lb contained of shelled pumpkin seeds in a special cubicle which is supposed to be stocked with JohnVince foods (nuts and dried fruit and vegetables of all kinds). More and more, these item too are out of stock.
Again, the fresh produce and dairy departments are well-​managed. But the rest of this store needs to be better managed, or you’re likely to lose customers. No one likes to have to make two and three trips to a supermarket when one should suffice.

Today was mostly a typical experience at this Kroger like the hundred I’ve had before it. This Kroger usually has the basics that I need and is fairly efficient. However, I usually find they are out of popular items (example: Not Your Father’s Rootbeer).
I did get a bit frustrated at times today however, because items that I don’t frequently get — but I know are generally stocked — were hard to find and/​or completely out. A lot of the shelves were disorganized; it was hard to determine the prices of items and/​or prices/​names were not displayed correctly.
Despite that, staff was friendly and personable.

Had to stop here for a liquor run for a guys party on the way to Detroit. First time I’d gotten off of 75 in Hazel Park. Couldn’t really take in the sights as it was 9:30 in the evening. Pretty standard Kroger in many senses. I don’t recall security guards in both Krogers in Troy but I guess since this is more of an inner city suburb than Troy, it’s more susceptible to any kind of criminal activity. I’m not really an alcoholic so I’m not sure if all Krogers don’t house hard liquor but this ones doesn’t. Only beer and wine.
As usual, Kroger has all kinds of goodies on sale or very good prices. This location didn’t have too many people on a Saturday evening and people available was minimal. Can’t really comment on the service but generally, people were friendly.
All in all, standard grocery store that has most essentials.

This is hands down the worst grocery store I have ever been to. After my experience there today I had to write this review.
My girlfriend and I went to return a few bottles and get stuff for dinner. When we got there the one machine that takes glass bottles was already full. We rang the buzzer but no one came. I had to ask four different employees before anyone would assist emptying the machine so we could finish the rest of our shopping. It took them about 30 minutes. The young man who was emptying the machine was thrashing about as he changed the bins, slamming things and cursing under his breath, scaring my girlfriend. When he finished my girlfriend said «thank you» and he did not even acknowledge her and walked away.
The produce section in there is absolutely disgusting. They had rotten items there or no items at all of certain things (just empty space). There was a giant puddle by the flower stand with no caution sign, I had to stop an elderly man from walking into it.
There were next to no carts available either, as many others have mentioned on here. Despite the many employees in the store who just seemed to be lolly gagging and joking around with each other.
Here’s the worst part. We go to check out and are waiting behind one person. There is a cashier and who we thought was a bagger. The lady in line in front of us was having a problem with her check and it was taking forever (totally understandable, whatever). We are both waiting patiently. A different family comes in behind us and the bagger, who is fully aware that we were waiting in line tells them she can ring them up at the next register. We fully believe we were given shittier customer service because of our race.
The manager to this store is fucking incompetent. The employees are rude and racist. I am in shock that an establishment can get so shitty without anyone doing anything about it. I’m never going back again.

I like Kroger, it’s like a smaller Wal Mart (without the clothes) to me. This location usually isn’t as busy like the one on 12 and Dequindre, so that’s why I prefer it.
I’m big on fruits, and almost always there’s a sale, so you know I’m a happy shopper at Kroger. I also love the variety of options they have for us vegetarians, not only one aisle but a couple are dedicated to vegans/​vegetarians! Vegan cheese, egg whites, tofurky, meatless burgers, you name it, they have it! I get everything I need for my vegetarian taco Tuesday’s right here, all for under $ 5… but the biggest win here is that usually there’s no line at the self checkout, so I can be in and out just like that.
Parking could be better, that may be my only complain for now!

They redid this one so there’s security, new floors, new organic section…
The clearance section is much much smaller now, prices went up, produce isn’t very good, and management can be really rude to employees in front of customers.
But it’s a Kroger.
What do people expect?
Golden carts with free cash at checkout?

Since they have remodeled the place is great. Usually pretty busy though. Sales are good. There is always an employee around if you need assistance. I was extremely surprised when I went to return bottle that the area was really clean and every machine worked.

The basics…
Fully stocked on sale items.
Safe parking lot.
Long checkout lines.
Not the best prices.
Smaller isles than Meijer.
Sometimes rude cashiers and rude people shopping.
Go only if you must, overall.

I am updating my previous review. I had all but given up on this Kroger – preferring the store on 12/​Dequindre. My family insisted that I give this newer, updated Kroger in my home town a chance. I did – several times since the reconstruction. It started out hit or miss because while the face of the store had changed there was still some mighty crappy attitudes going on with the employees. I will have to say that upon my last two visits (and this last one after the grand opening) I am becoming more willing to amend my opinion of the staff. I have seen some different faces here and was pleasantly surprised. The attitudes are definitely improved to the point where they are all very nice and courteous. No more rolling of the eyes, ignoring the customer to engage with other staff exclusively and just general all around smiles. As for the store there are, of course, definite improvements. I’m not thrilled that I have to walk the entire back of the store for the dairy items. I wish the pharmacy and paper products could have been in that area and the dairy moved over to where the frozen foods were. Why does dairy always have to be on the back shelves? I know that it’s a marketing «thing» but still irks me. Will I give up my 12/​Dequindre store for this one? I may eventually but this Kroger still has some real damage control (for me) to make it my #1.

All the negative reviews on here are true!
There are almost always 0 carts in the store, they’re all out in the parking lot. No matter how many employees are in the store just hanging out.
I’m writing this review because of the boxes and boxes of strawberries that had rotten, white and green mold growing inside. How disgusting!
And they left piles of black, obviously old, shriveled, avocados out.
I will never shop here again just because of this. Can you imagine the freshness of the rest of the food?! How disgusting!
And I tried to chat with the cashier and she said not one word to me, she just looked at the bagger like, «Does this B think I’m going to acknowledge her?»
And he just looked back at her like, «Ha! No, we aren’t acknowledging her at all.»
No hello, no thank you.
And my god, can the people who work there try not to have and irritated, bored look on their face?!
And the people working the customer service counter? They are the rudest of the bunch. No greeting, no smile, and even ruder than the cashiers.
They need to fire all the lazy, non customer service knowing, non hard working zombies here and find people who like their job and can do it well.
Or, they need a new store manager that knows how to manage their employees. How are all these bad reviews still true? Even as far back as 2010?!
I cannot believe how ridiculously bad this branch of Kroger is.

This review is for the Kroger’s gas station. I only purchase gas from this Kroger Station because of the lower price, not including the fuel points. About two weeks ago my SUV started idling rough and began losing power on acceleration. I thought it was a clogged fuel filter, so I had it changed. My truck was ok for a day, then the problem got worst. My truck started stalling and turning off every time I stopped at a red light or in stop and go traffic. I even almost got hit by a semi on the expressway because it stalled. I took it to a different mechanic. He checked for vacuum leaks, ran codes, and checked spark plugs. Everything appeared fine and in working condition. He then checked the gas tank. He withdrew about three ounce of fuel. The gas was completely clear, like water (picture upload). He told me to contact Kroger’s to see if when filling their under ground tanks there was a mix up with diesel or E85. I called Krogers, but the Manager informed me no one else had complained. I’m writing to see if anyone has had a similar experience. If so please post it. Thanks.

I like most things about this store except the meat selection. The meat never looks as nice as if you went to say Hollywood. I have bought meat like their bogo roast and it was great. They often don’t have the steak I want or it may not look the part. Everything else is good though. Some things are really good deals and then it seems other things are sometimes over priced. It always seems clean and employees are everywhere if you need help finding something.

This is a review for the gas station only.
I went to this station because I was nearby and had some Kroger fuel points and an empty tank. The good: it took the fuel points correctly. The bad: the pumping took a long time. Perhaps, being associated with a grocery store and hearing of a thing called the slow food movement, they decided to innovate and start the slow pump movement. Not a fan.
I would avoid this station unless I had a lot of fuel points and a lot of time on my hands. Luckily, I did.

Do you like to hear mutants talk about their sex life? Yes? Then this is the place for you! Do you like having to park more than twice the distance you should have to because there is literally over 50 carts scattered in the parking lot and then not have a cart when you get inside??? Great! This Kroger has that too! Do you like being blatantly disrespected while you’re surrounded by filth and grime? Come on in!
The ONLY reason I come into this Kroger is because it’s basically across the street from me. I wish they would do the responsible thing and close it (at least to deep clean, re-​model, and re-​staff) but they won’t so I’ll go there to get beer and redbox and maybe some pecan spinwheels.
I pray for you if you’re returning bottles here.

Unfortunately, it’s closest to me, and in the shit weather we have i’m kinda stuck. There is really nothing GOOD about this store. Seriously.
Half the time there are no carts in the store; they’re all in the parking lot because all the employees are busy talking stupidly to each other and «hanging out» as opposed to working. I would even venture to say that it’s just the younger ones, if that were true. It’s all of them, no age discrimination on the laziness, that’s for sure.
The bottle/​can return is almost always broken, and usually filled with homeless people looking for strays.
They stock in the MIDDLE OF THE DAY ON SATURDAY. Do you have ANY idea how hard it is to maneuver in this fucked up place, only to be blocked by stock carts AND tons of people???
OH, yeah, the fucking people. Usually donning pajamas, they have NO regard to other shoppers in the store. Someone used the word «zombies» and that pretty much sums up the people that wander aimlessly, dragging their feet, and the aisles are ALWAYS blocked.

Do you like being ignored? You do? Well THIS is your place to go!!!
Cashiers rarely acknowledge anyone, and you’re lucky if they even look at you while they are waiting on you, because the bagger or the cashier next to them may be telling a funny joke, or talking about what they did over the weekend, or planning the next weekend, or talking about what nasty little brats their kids are…
One of these days, someone is going to get brazen, fill a cart with shit, and walk right out the door. And get away with it. And I want to shake that person’s hand when they do.
So, yeah, stay the fuck away.

Oh, Hazel Park Kroger… you are dirty and run down, and your parking lot is the stuff that nightmares are made out of. Still, I return to you, time and again.
Here’s the thing: Ferndale is full of independently owned merchants. And while I like independent merchants, and support them when I can, I still would prefer to pay $ 1.99 for a gallon of milk. And if I can get some coffee, tp, and eggs on sale while I’m there? All the better. That’s where Kroger steps in. Sure, it’s not a glossy, high brow, smiley employee sort of store (I’m looking at you T. Joes). It’s the working man’s store. It’s old and worn down, but has a certain sort of appeal — like a Bruce Springsteen song.
Plus, the best part of the Hazel Park Kroger is the cashier named Michael, aka Sticker Man. Michael is super friendly, wears sunglasses indoors, and gives my daughter a ton of stickers every time she goes with me to the store. Seeing her face light up when she sees Sticker Man makes the trip more than worth it.
So keep your fancy grocery stores, Ferndale; I’m driving 1 mile east to Kroger, and spending a ton less than I would anywhere else.

I loathe this store more than most Krogers. This one in particular is supremely shabby. Dirty floors, sad produce, rude shoppers and employees who just don’t seem to understand common politeness. The parking lot is torn up and it’s always a mad house even when the store seems dead. And it is expensive! And there are zombies everywhere!
If you need to shop Kroger the Coolidge store in Troy is your safest bet but prices are better at any Meijer.
