If there’s one thing I know about sushi, it’s that it should be served at its freshest. You will not find that here. Fish should not have a heightened fishy scent, that’s how you can determine the freshness. The vegetable and shrimp tempura were very sad, over cooked and once again not fresh and overly battered. The bento boxes dont come with a sushi roll and the rice is over cooked to mush. You will not find friendly service, my waitress seems to find me needy and I dislike her approach in hospitality. Meals were offered at different times causing us to wait for our food to get cold. Not only did they serve one of us a dish when we were already done but she never apologized for forgetting to put in one of our dishes. The menu offers American food and the prices are fare. The portions are sad and it makes the establishment look cheap. I think I’ll pass on the food poisoning and deem this restaurant uneatable.

This place was nice until I tried to get a refund for their beef udon noodle soup that didn’t taste right… The owner I guess said she would refund me for half of it even though I taste less than 2 bites of the whole meal. Very unprofessional and the fact that she couldn’t replace my meal with something else which I would have paid for in full(I was asking to replace with chicken teriyaki) and she wouldn’t unless I paid for half my udon AND my chicken teriyaki was unacceptable. Literally the 4 dollars worth of beef udon was not that big of a deal and I don’t agree wit this restaurants way of dealing with customers. She proceeded to ask my friend at the table if he wanted my udon soup AFTER she took it away. Maybe to prove some type of point? But it wasn’t good to me and that’s disrespectful. I’ll never come back here again.

Got takeout here for dinner with the bf one night and was pleased. First off, the place itself is really quaint and cute, really friendly staff and super welcoming. They have a bunch of little kids working in the back/ringing people up which is questionable, but that’s not really my business… We got three rolls, a handroll, two miso soups and two side salads. Everything was pretty affordable($ 40 total) and really tasty. The only complaint I have about the sushi is that the rice was a little bit too sticky, resulting in it falling apart when you pick it up with your chopsticks. Frustrating, but not that big a deal. Miso soup was kind of odd, I think they didn’t use as much miso paste because it was a dark, clear-ish broth, not as opaque and beige as typical miso soup is. Also didn’t have the typical miso soup taste. Salads were good, scallop handroll was good, everything was very ok. I wasn’t super wow-ed by this place but wasn’t unhappy with our meal, probably will try this place again and see how other things on the menu are.

A friend treated me here for my birthday lunch. I had the unagi don. AKA: ell over rice . They serve ’ Japanese portions ‘, which most Americans aren’t used to. But the eel and rice couldn’t have been cooked better . Got miso soup with the order. A little different than what I’m used to, but it was hot and tasty. Another poster complained of no spoons. Well, this is because most Japanese don’t use a spoon for this kind of soup. You pick it up with two hands and slowly sip it . Same reason as there were only chop sticks on the table . I’d like to try their dinner in the future. Prices are reasonable.

Sushi rolls were fresh and tasty. Hubby loves their chicken teriyaki since it’s tender n has a lil crispiness to it. My lil one loves the chicken karaage and he is one picky eater. Waitress was friendly and attentive. Will def come back!

My fiancé and I just left here very disappointed. After debating where we should go for a quick late night dinner on a Saturday night, we picked this place on her previous positive experience and 4* review. I am not one to take time to write a negative review unless I feel cheated and tonight I did. We ordered 2 salads, 2 miso soup and 2 rolls which were a himachi roll and one of their specialty rolls which had crab and shrimp but I can’t recall the name. The salad was ok, and the soup was good, but we weren’t given any spoons with our soup until we asked. The waitress seemed bothered that we asked for spoons to have with our soup. I guess she expected us to drink the soup out of the bowl. The first roll, which had shrimp and imitation crab, was first tried by my fiancé and she asked me to try and tell her if I thought it had an old fishy taste. It did. Sushi is supposed to taste clean and fresh, didn’t have that here. It had an old fishy taste. My fiancé than tried the himachi roll to see if maybe we just got one bad roll, but as soon as she put it in her mouth, she chewed and spit it out in her napkin and told me not to even bother trying it. I didn’t want to be rude to the staff and chef nor cause any commotion in the restaurant as there were a few other patrons, so I decided to politely pay my bill, which luckily was only 20.88. I decided not to tip bc this was an unpleasant experience both with the food and rude waitress. I also didn’t want to leave the 2 rolls which were barely touched in front of them to see, so I asked for a to go container and instead packed it up and left it on the side walk in front for them to see and hopefully a homeless person can find it and get the nutritional value out of it. I am giving a one star bc one the waitress was rude and seemed to be annoyed whenever we asked her anything and two the food wasn’t fresh. I feel that serving people old and non fresh fish for their hard earned money is unethical. I am one to give credit where it’s due, but there was nothing positive about this place. I’m sorry I really wanted to like this place as its local and I love supporting my local businesses as does my fiancé but we cannot support them after this experience.

I was excited to try a new sushi place. Looks like almost everyone here just gets bento boxes. I ordered the chirashi, titanic and 49ers roll. Service is super slow. Took forever to order and a while for the food to come out. The fish in the chirashi is fresh though. The rolls were just ok. Kind of small. More rice than fish. Overall, this place is just ok.

I thought everything I ordered was very good The lunch bento box was only 6.99. Tempura, sashimi, a salad, soup and rice. I also ordered a soft shell crab Roll And a chicken appetizer. Only bad thing is they brought all the food at once.

Honestly… The sushi is OK, but overall this place is nothing out of this world. Service was Painfully slow and just simply… OK. Everything about this place was ok. The sushi was a little too thick and bulky, the waiting was long and the ambience was meh. If you are in the neighborhood, and would like something on the go, this might be your place. Otherwise, I would probably wouldn’t go out of my way to get here. I must say though, that the veggie sushi was a little more tasty than other places, with ginger and and other veggies that made it a little more flavor than simply rice and cucumber. But again, meh overall.

This place is great! I come here all the time after I get my nails did or a foot massage across the street, when I feel like I need to pamper myself. I usually get some nigiri — it’s medium grade. Good enough for me! That tempura ice cream tho!!! Yummmmmm! You have to get it!

I’m giving this place 4 stars because we were shocked at the freshness of the sashimi and my bento box was probably one of the best I’ve had at a regular sushi restaurant. Located at a semi sketch downtown hayward, we dropped by here for lunch on a Saturday since sushi land didn’t open for another hour. There were only 3 other small parties dining and 1 waitress manning them. She was very friendly and offered excellent service, especially dealing with my picky boyfriend. LOL. My bf had the sashimi appetizer which didn’t come with soup and rice(we thought it did since it was under a headline stating so). Anyways, $ 10 for around 12 or was it 9 big cuts of fish but they were of excellent freshness and taste. I had the hayward special bento box for $ 10.95 which came with chicken skewers, 4 slabs of salmon sashimi, tons of tempura, pretty well fried gyoza, and omg I forgot the other item. Salad, rice, and soup too. I loved everything on there! Gyoza was perfectly fried and the skewers was well cooked. The fish was the best part, and for $ 10 for all those items, I thought it was well worth the price. I couldn’t finish my tempura sadly but I devoured everything else. HIGHLYRECOMMENDTOGETTHISBOX! My bf also ordered another roll which had spicy tuna. So good and I could taste the spiciness! Yes! Tons of rolls on the menu were only $ 5 to $ 10. I’m shocked at how affordable they are for the quality of fish you’re getting. I’m itching to come back here(very odd of me to say since I’m not a sushi fanatic) to try other items since their menu is just so expansive. And mmm, spicy tuna.

Excellent service and sushi. The sushi chefs were quick, friendly, neat and clean. We sat at the sushi bar and like a traditional sushi bar, he handed us two small sample plates with some crab and seasoned vegetables before we even ordered. The sushi was excellent. Filling, tasty and nicely presented.

My girlfriend and I have now been here twice and both times we have been equally impressed with thr Great food and great service ! The sushi is so fresh and so delicious– the avocado is the most fresh avocado I have ever had! The staff is friendly and personable and they are pretty quick too! We usually drive out of town for good sushi, but have now found our new spot right down the street from home!

I don’t know why this place has such a low rating. This place is great! They have good food and such a good price. Their sushi is good and it costs about $ 5 – 10 for sushi!!? That’s unheard of. It’s usually slow during the weeknight which I love. I believe it’s family owned as well. You can tell that the customers are regulars they always chat with the people that dine. The miso soup is good. The poke salad was spicy which I loved and all the rolls were delicious.

I come here for lunch mostly and the service is always very prompt. The sushi bar is pretty big and they have quite a few tables. I love the ebi tepura appetizer($ 2.99 for 2 pieces shrimp tempura and 4 tempura green beans). The tiger roll is my favorite. They also play radio stations so yesterday i ate while listening to Hotline Bling, lol.

I took the kids here, because my son wanted Japanese on his birthday. At first, we were headed to another Japanese restaurant in the area, but found out it was closed on Monday. We also found out that there are about 7 different Japanese restaurants, just blocks from each other, in the downtown Hayward area. And, half of them are closed on Mondays. Anyways, we were greeted right away, and taken to a table. It was about 6:30 pm(we like to eat dinner early), and there was already some patrons both at the sushi bar, and some at tables. Atmosphere was very nice, but it would have been more enjoyable if the music was also Japanese, and not Billboards top 100. Service was great even though there was only one waitress. She was great. Very attentive, always working, and checking all the tables. My boys had Tonkatsu and Beef Teriyaki dinners. They both finished everything. We eat Japanese a lot, and they said they wanted to come back here again. My daughter and I ordered the Spider Roll, 2 Unagi Rolls, a California Roll, and a Fried California roll. It tasted fresh, and well made. The fried California Roll was the only complaint I have(Outer fried shell was a little under cooked.) Overall, everything was great. Price was also great, because it was way less than what I would have spent at many other Japanese Restaurants.

Definitely my favorite Japanese food in the area. My favorite is the Hayward roll(shrimp tempura and avacado). Love the tonkatsu, terkyaki(beef and chicken) and the tempura. Service is always good. Go in and give it a try

After a making some quick gas money at The Palace, I walked back to my car & smelled good old Japanese food. Perfect, because I had a craving! I looked around and saw Yuki Hana on C Street. I made a B-line towards the smell and ended up sitting at the sushi bar. The ambiance was very average but excellent for a quick Japanese dinner fix especially when the price is right. It’s not a place I would take a first date, but it’s good enough to quell that craving for Sushi or Sashimi. There were a lot of $ 9.99 combo deals, so most peeps in your party will find something. I ordered the chicken and sashimi combo for $ 9.99 + an order of Ikura for $ 4. Food was fresh, the right temperature and service quick. I like it when both my tummy and wallet are happy at the same time! =)

I hadn’t been to this place since it was the Hayward Japan Grill(you can actually see the name on parts of the menu) and I wasn’t really impressed with it then. However, times do change and I was willing to give this new version of the restaurant a shot when our first choice to eat at was super busy on a Thursday night. We were seated immediately, as the place was about half full and we each ordered a donburi(I chose tonkatsu) and we split the Pancho Villa roll. My expectations weren’t high as soon as I saw they also served hamburgers/fries(what kind of legit Japanese restaurant serves American food too?) but even so, I was disappointed. The donburi was decent sized but my first bite, the pork was so chewy that I had to spit the whole piece back into my bowl as I couldn’t bite off a piece. Then there were parts of the tempura that must have been undercooked, as I could taste the grittiness and flour of the batter. Nasty. Our roll was meh. Small pieces of fish on the top, disappointing as well. Wasn’t impressed with this place when it was Hayward Japan Grill, still not impressed. Definitely won’t be back.

I have to give this place four stars. I wanted to give it five, but I simply can’t say it is as good as it gets. That said, the food here is amazing. The sashimi sampler, 15 absolutely delightful pieces, had me making yummy sounds during the entire meal. Top that off with decent prices and this place can’t be beat. The salad and miso soup were tasty. There are no stars for ambiance. The wait staff was kind, but not super attentive. There was nothing wrong with the experience, but it could have been better. That said, the menu is pretty large and because it is so close, the sashimi is top notch and the price is right, we will be back.

As we step in the place it looks really small and dim light, we didn’t expect it to be a good place anyways. The menu was big but the prices was awesome. Sushi rolls range from 5 – 14 $. The food looks much better than the picture. Taste really good. I love it I had the Baja California rolls and it was so good. Their tempura appetizers blow my mind away. It was crispy, soft, and hot. Everything was fresh. Their sashimi was fresh and clean. I would bring my friends here. Ordering over 4 items but it was under 30 $. Pretty good place so far. I will be coming back here.

HAYWARD, fix your Asian cuisine standards. It’s a disappointing trend of misleading high ratings for all your subpar Asian restaurants. Please citizens of Hayward, elevate your food standards! I am going to come here again for a 2nd chance because my first time was unimpressive unfortunately. I really think it had to do with the fact that it was already a warm day in Hayward and instead of ordering my usual rolls(Spider and Deep Fried Cali), I opted for the Nabeyaki Udon like a buffoon. Nabeyaki Udon $ 6.99:( ) Relatively small bowl of a child’s handful of udon noodles, heavily salted/umami broth, 4 pieces of spinach, few slices of imitation crab, ONE piece of chicken, and a weirdly, overcooked poached egg. The udon was already cheap to me, but man, it was more worth like $ 2.99!!! The portion was basically kid-sized and it was so so SALTY that I guzzled my cup of water down throughout the whole meal. Lastly, the Nabeyaki Udon did not come in a NABEPOT(metal pot)! :(#disappointment Service was okay. The lady helped us whenever we flagged her down. There was probably one other party but we came around 3PM so it wasn’t a-hustling, bustling. Interior-wise, the place is spacious, high ceilings, and with a sushi bar. Kinda shabby, cluttered looking with random things around the room, but I’m fine with that. The best thing about my experience was my company, the beautiful Miss Elena. We had a good time in a mostly empty restaurant and it was great not having to shout-match in a busy restaurant.

SHORTSTORY: DONOTWASTEYOURMONEYHERE! The high Unilocal ratings are misleading. Bad quality sushi. They don’t clean the fish well. Found hair in my dessert. JUSTNOOO. :( I am writing this review as I leave the restaurant. I came here with my friend for sushi when we realized that our all time favorite sushi restaurant in the East Bay(Sushiland, also in Hayward) was closed on Monday. We were pretty excited about the high ratings from Unilocal.ALLLIES. I’m sure the high ratings were intended for this place called Hayward Japan Grill — probably the old place. Whatever that place was, this is definitely NOT that. THEFOOD: We ordered the tempura shrimp and long beans appetizer. TERRIBLE. Beans were sour and the shrimp were NOTCLEAN. All the shrimps were cooked with the poop strings still attached inside the shrimp — A HUGENO-NO for a high quality sushi place. Then we ordered four rolls: unagi roll, hayward roll, Philadelphia roll and crunchy roll. All were pretty small rolls that were mushy on the inside — even when I had tempura shrimp. The Philadelphia roll had more cream cheese than any other filling. And yet again, the shrimp in my roll still had the poop strings attached to it. We didn’t finish the rolls because they were honestly not that good. You can probably go to Trader Joes and get refrigerated sushi and you’ll be fine. Completely disappointed, we thought maybe their dessert would be better. They said that its homemade so that was something to look forward to. We ordered the chocolate tempura ice cream. AGAIN, A BIGLETDOWN. It was essentially a small scoop of ice cream smashed in between sliced white bread you can get at the grocery store and deep fried. WORSTOFALL: SMALLHAIR(will attach pics). Now, I wanted to say something to the lady serving us but she seemed a bit cold and dismissive. So I broke the tempura outer layer and just ate the ice cream inside. In all, not good. We are usually pretty generous when giving reviews on Unilocal.I’m also not the kind of person who’ll write extensive reviews. However, our experience at that place was definitely below subpar. I would not want others to be deceived by the high Unilocal ratings and come to this place expecting the best.
