Golden State Stone and Tile

i drove by this place and decided to check it out as i was trying to remodel my fireplace wall at home. great showroom with tons of tile, stone, and slabs to see. the attached warehouse has almost everything in stock and ready to go. lots of helpful displays of different material to look at which is really helpful when trying to make those important decisions on which material to use.
michael was fantastic – he helped me pick out some stone tiles for my wall and then helped find some remnant travertine for my floor in front of my fireplace to match the stone. totally reliable – called me back precisely on time and even texted me photos of different options. outstanding service and advice. these people have been in the business and really know what they are doing. helpful to have that insight. joann was very helpful as well, she helped me brainstorm to get the process started. prices are very fair as well. no monkey business, everything was straightforward. it does get busy on the weekends – a testament to their successful business – constant flow of people coming in because of the great selection. the weekdays are a little slower so plan on a weekday if you are in a hurry or if you want some more detailed help with your project. will definitely come back here for my next remodel!

In the process of remodeling my dream kitchen, I went to every store in the South Bay that I could find looking at marble/​granite/​quartz options for my counter tops. I ran across Michael at the location in Torrance and told him that I really dreamed of having carrera marble installed but had been warned by almost everyone I spoke to about marble in the kitchen. We discussed all my options and then he sealed a sample that I had from another store and told me to go home and test out the sealant and see what I thought. Over the next 2 months I went back to the location in Hawthorne several times, trying to make a decision on my counter tops. Golden State not only had the best turnaround time for fabrication, they also had a larger selection than many of the stores I went to, and competitive pricing. The employees didn’t harass me as soon as I walked in the door, yet, when I consulted with them, they were all more knowledgeable than employees at other stores I had checked out. They were also very patient as I didn’t make a purchase for about 6 weeks.
I was initially a little concerned about going ahead with the after reading the other reviews, but had so far had a good experience with Michael, who seemed to receive a lot of positive feedback in the other reviews, so I went ahead and placed my order, working with him. Hugo, the fabricator, came out and took the template of my kitchen. He was extremely conscientious and on time, which I always appreciate. As I watched him go through the process of measuring, he made a few suggestions to modify what I had initially requested. I hesitated to follow his advice but am so glad I did, the finished results are amazing, and his suggestions really were great touches to the kitchen. Nicholas received the templates and my request for for the grain of the slab to all flow in one direction throughout my kitchen. Considering the u-​shape layout and bar counter, this was nearly impossible. He spent about a week with me, endlessly patient, going through all my options and laid it out repeatedly for me on multiple slabs at my request.
In order to get the look I requested and enough counter for a bar, I ended up having to get two slabs of marble. Michael gave me a great price, and the guys that installed the counter were fabulous. I ended up with 1 2 inch seam behind my sink that is not even visible, and one other seam, which was done amazingly well. Michael came out after the install and sealed my counters, teaching me how to do so myself in the future, leaving me with the extra product and recommendations for daily cleaners. The flow of the marble is gorgeous, and everyone who sees my kitchen comments on the counters, my pride and joy. I really couldn’t be happier with the results or the service and highly recommend them to everyone. I took a picture to attach to my review, but no place to upload.

Great selection. Great service. Bought flooring materials and shower tiles. We had a tile break and they got me the one spare that I needed without a gripe. Had to reorder many times as our project kept growing. They kept our orders on file and were easy to order over the phone and keep us updated when it came in. Highly recommend. Will use again when the next project arises.

«Oh btw $ 300 in cutting charges that I’m telling you about last minute. Oh, you need it cut today sometime? No, maybe in 3 days.» I would not recommend buying here if it requires a half slab.

Golden State has some «eclectic» salespeople, but once we worked with Michael he hooked us up with good materials, got us in on a tight install schedule, and Hugo made our vanity look bomb. I’m pretty sure the negative reviews here are a product of some inconsistencies with the sales staff, just work with Michael and you’ll be in good shape.

If i could give them 0 stars I would. What a joke, I still can’t believe I walked around there for a half hour and no one said anything to us.
If you are looking for a super friendly place with a huge selection of stone head over to Rio Stone in Carson and ask for Mauricio. He’s is awesome. We ended up buying our marble and glass mosaic backsplash from them.

Stop randomly to find solution for tiles for bathroom. They sold us metal trim for $ 25, thought kinda expensive but maybe bc special item. Then we were short and came back to buy more. They didn’t have it so we were sent to their Torrance store. They confirmed Torrance had it. When I arrived at Torrance, NOT even available! Then I called Hawthorne store to get credit. I took chance to see if HOME DEPOT had them, they DID and HALF the cost! Poor service and expensive. Try HOME DEPOT before u try them.

My neighbor got work from this company. He told me to help him write this review. Per him, everything was great except the organizational skills. Whether coming from Nicolas or Mimi, they told my neighbor one thing and it was not even like that. Once the installer, Hugo, came to install his kitchen… The finish touch was amazing. He did a great job, left everything clean and it’s a work of art. He was very professional and because of this review my neighbor is not thinking in purchasing thee services again. Kudos Hugo!!!

I needed a marble/​travertine slab around 7×2 feet. I didn’t know it would be hard to find a remnant slab at a good price, until someone told me about Gold State Stone and Tile. They have plenty of remnants of various granite, marble and travertine.

We bought counter tops from them, they we installing and demolishing our existing tile counter top and back splash.
Pros:
— store selection is pretty good and there is a lot of material on display
— they started work next business day after purchase
— they tried to fix their mistakes
Cons:
— at first they did not repair drywall after demolition as promised. After several calls with different people that got fixed
— they joined slabs of 2 very different colors together in a noticeable place in the kitchen. They agree to correct this, but when they brought 2 pieces to match 1 was not better than what we had, and another one had a crack all the way through and basically glued together. For the pace that only deals with stone — this is unforgettable mistake.
Overall — I’d buy from them again, but I do not recommend asking them to do any work in your house.

I purchased tile, thinset, & grout from Golden State for my bathroom. I installed it and everything was fine. Later I came back for an estimate for a kitchen counter top over my existing cabinets. I filled in their standard questionnaire for an engineered material and got a estimate of $ 2400. Since I took out the old existing tile counter top, replaced it with new plywood, and made sure it was it was plumb and level; I asked for another bid. Apparently, they didn’t want to work with me. I never got passed the sales girl.

We bought granite that was in their store and was told it would be installed next monday. When the guy came the friday before to install he said Tuesday. We were then called Monday and told it would not be done until Friday. We complained and the lady said she would try to get it installed earlier and would call us back. She never did. We called Wed and Thursday and no one answered their phones. It is now Friday at 2:00 when they were supposed to install «Early in the morning». I can not speak to the stone quality or the quality of the fabrication but based on their customer care and communication I would recommend against.

Had a great experience with this store and its staff. Very helpful in answering all sorts of questions, going the extra mile, notifications and decent prices. No delays or miscommunications on anything, albeit we bought stone that was already located at their store.

If I could give this company no stars, I would. Do NOT trust them to get you your tile on time!!! We just dealt with them, because we needed tile within the week. We purchased some pebble mosaic tile, glass mosaic tile, and special ordered glass mosaic tile. The woman working assured us that everything would be delivered to the store by Thursday, June 10^th. However, when we went to pick up the tile, the woman informed us that it hadn’t been delivered yet, and we would need to pay an additional shipping charge since it was coming from Texas. Not only was it late, but they charged us extra to get it here! So we went to pick everything up on Tuesday, June 15^th, paid the extra shipping cost (no use arguing with someone who doesn’t make decisions), and were told that the special ordered tiles were not in yet but would be in on Wednesday (the next day). Our contractors told us that they could do without it until Thursday, so we resigned to just go with their word. So again, we went back to the store on Wednesday to pick up the tile, but were AGAIN told that they didn’t have the tile. So we stressed to the woman that we needed it by Thursday morning. She called a driver and was told that they would do a special pick up and have it back to the store before noon on Thursday. At this point we threatened to cancel our order since the tile was already a week late and delaying our project. We were assured by the woman working that it would be here before noon. It is now past noon on Thursday, June 17^th, and still no tile! Horrible, horrible service…
Update: So we got our tile… finally. But… low and behold… it’s the wrong tile!!! How can a company be so incompetent???
