Rubber Duckie Boat Rentals

My wife and I have rented from them a few times and have had a fun time on the lake and we will rent from them again, The staff was helpful and accommodating with a positive attitude, Yes the boats are used as mentioned in the other reviews but we haven’t had any mechanical issues. This company provides an economical and safe way to enjoy Lake Wallenpaupack.

So we vacationed a few weeks ago and decided to rent a ski boat. Rubber Duckie was the only boat rental with available boats so we chose to go there.
The owner, I think his name was Denis, seemed a little grouchy at first-​but warmed up. I have only navigated a boat a couple of times and he seemed a little impatient at first. The weather was a bit overcast so he advised us to take it out for 2 hrs and if we wanted to stay longer we could call in for extra time and he would prorate it. The weather turned out fine and he gave us the three hour rate as opposed to the 2hr rate and then an additional hr rate. That was really nice of him. Much appreciated!
The boat we rented seemed a bit older BUT it was fun to navigate and really provided some kick on the lake.
The kid at the dock, Jordan, was very pleasant and answered all of our questions. Nice guy.
Overall a good experience. I do wish the boat we rented was a bit newer but Rubber Duckie did make up for it with its rates.
Would I rent again? Yes. To be fair they did have newer boats but they were not available at the time. I’d make a reservation first.

This place is such a scam. I’ve owned and ridden jet skis almost all my life and have never flipped one completely over. They tell you before you get on how to flip it back over if does flip but they don’t tell you that the machine becomes completely useless if flipped over. On our way back to the dock, at the end of the 30 minutes, we hit some choppy water after turning the engine off and just flipped over, way too easily. We were waving at them to come get us but no one came for at least 15 minutes, during which time we were treading water and trying to get back on the machine. Little did we know that when the machine flips it fills with water and you cannot actually get back on or restart the machine. My cousin that was on the dock said that she asked them to get us and they took their sweet time getting in a boat to retrieve us. When we got back to the dock, they told us we had to wait for them to check it out and see what damage was done. The jet ski sat there for almost 40 minutes without being touched. We kept asking them how much longer we had to wait and they kept saying they would get to it soon. Finally, someone came down from the main office to look at it and told us we had to stay and watch while they drain the jet ski. After another 30 minutes they said we could go to the main office, where the owner then charged us $ 245 because water got stuck in the engine. These guys are total scam artists and i cannot recommend them to anyone.

Rented a pontoon boat for the family with a tube. The boat was pretty dated and wasn’t in great condition (seats were torn in areas). Boat operated fine but wasn’t as easy to handle as other pontoons I’ve rented. Tubing was fine but line got caught in engine and we had to cut it so we got charged. ¼ of gas costs $ 30 which is what we needed to add for 2.5 hours of boating.
Staff was overall friendly.
Would recommend trying other rental companies since this was pretty much an average experience at best.

Though the boats are a bit old, they run well and the staff there were friendly and helpful both at the counter and down by the docks, especially after I mentioned that I was not an experienced boater.
Their website is very clear about their pricing and that the user has to pay for gas afterwards. It was a bit of a hassle to fill the tank back up across the lake before I had to return it and it did take up part of my rental time, but if I wanted to pay a lot more for gas they would have refueled me back on the dock.
I would rent again next time I’m back at the lake and I recommend this place to others, ignore the negative comments.

This was my second time at rubber duckie. Last year we didn’t make reservations and we were able to get a boat almost immediately after filling out the paperwork. This time we decided to make reservations but I wish we hadn’t because by the time we filled everything out we lost 30 minutes of time. The staff is very friendly, Mave in particular helped us out with everything. The lake is great, we rented a float and we swam out and tanned. But our boat did stall out halfway through which was unfortunate. We called rubber duckie and they sent two employees to check out the boat, apparently the battery was dead, so they had to take us back. We were disappointed about having an inadequate boat but they did refund us for an hour (we rented the boat for three hours) so that was appreciated.

I took my family to the lake last summer and wound up in Rubber Duckies with no reservations and was able to go out on a Jet Ski with my son after watching their video and filling out the required forms, no problem. The Jet ski was nice and fast for the two of us and the designated space on the lake was really ample to open her up back and forth though a bit repetitive after a while.
I came back two days later and rented a pontoon boat with my son and nephews So we could explore the lake a bit further but unfortunately got washed out. I plan to come back this summer, but i might try making a reservation this time.
A note on the gas, it’s included with the jet skis, not with the boats.

This was the only boat rental place we could find in the area. We were initially concerned by the other reviews, but decided to try anyway.
The map location is for the office, but once you register you drive down to the docks where the boats are.
The reviews were helpful. We did find the staff friendly and knowledgeable. The registration process takes about 10 minutes, including a safety video. They also require you use a non-​Debit Visa, Mastercard or Discover for registration, though you can use a Debit Visa/​MC/​DISC for payment. They do not take American Express.
The boats were all fine and fun. We rented waverunners and a Pontoon, and the latter was powerful enough for people to go tubing. We did not have any issues with the boats.
The only downside is the extra costs others experienced too. With a Pontoon, you’re asked to fill up the gas tank before you return it. But you’re not told this at the Office, instead only be asked by the staff at the lake. Not a huge cost, but factor it in. If the tank is half full when you get the boat, figure it’ll cost you about $ 60 – 75 more. We rented for two hours, so all told it was about $ 200. I thought this was fine, about the same I paid on other lakes in NY.
All in all, a good time had by all and one I’m happy to recommend, even with the extra costs.

I’m not sure why others had problems with them. We rented from them twice, one a sailboat and once a pontoon boat. Both times went off without a hitch.

This was my second visit to Rubber Duckie. Both times have been fun but their equipment is really tattered and old. The crew are very friendly and helpful. The pontoon boat we rented had torn seats and the plywood on the back of the padded vinyl was showing through. It was in rough shape. The boat may have been only worth the rental fee we paid.
When I brought the boat back from our trip, I took it upon myself to fill the reservoir with oil and filled the gas tank. Nothing was required when we returned the boat. The owner still charged me for refilling the oil reservoir after I told him I filled it for them. I didn’t notice until I went over the receipts that he charged me for it.
I know there are other boat rentals in the area. I think I’ll rent a NEW boat from the others for about the same price as Rubber Duckie. I can’t tell you how old these rentals are, but they’re in rough shape and in serious need of some maintenance.

My experience with this Lake Wallenpaupack Boat Rental company was equally disappointing. I initially wanted to rent the 14′ Boston Whaler boat for 5 hours from 1p-​6p, since I was coming from NYC/​LI area (2.5 hour travel time). When I went to reserve, they informed me on the phone that the rental had to begin at 10am, so they could ‘have the option to rent to someone else at the end of the day’, forcing me to have to change plans and arrive earlier if I wanted the boat for only 5 hours, otherwise, I’d have to pay for the entire 8 hours if I wanted to keep the boat until 6p. Upon actually arriving and getting the boat, it was in horrible condition, banged up, with a puddle of gasoline and lake water in the rear of boat. The most disturbing thing was that, when they went over operation of the boat with me, they admitted that the ignition key was broken (half of key was broken in the ignition key slot, and just a nub was left of the key. This led to extreme difficulty starting the boat — getting the ignition to stay in the ‘on’ position. I fortunately didn’t have trouble during the earlier part of the day when we shut off the motor to go swimming in the lake, however before returning the boat at the end of the rental day, they insist you fill up the gas tank, so you are forced to cross the lake to a Marina, top off the tank (a 40 minute roundtrip), and return, otherwise face an obscene charge (since they don’t have gasoline fill-​up ability). Once I arrived at the Marina and did the final fill-​up and was ready to go, the boat WOULD NOT START because of the broken key. Even the Marina attendants couldn’t start the boat. I called Rubber Duckie, and they did immediately send someone to ‘rescue’ me, and apparently got the boat to start with the broken key. When I explained this was a serious safety hazard, and I could have been stranded in the middle of the lake if this happened earlier, the guy gave me an attitude — insinuating I was a moron for not being able to start their boat with a broken key, and took off in his speedboat in a huff without any reply to my statement. When I returned to their dock to return the boat, I found the ‘rescuer’ (since he had a faster boat) returned to sitting in his dockside lawn chair laughing with his pals. When I went to the office to get my security deposit back and finalize the contracts, I told the ‘owner’ (?) that he never should have rented a boat in that condition, and he replied «Well, If I had it fixed, you wouldn’t have had the boat to rent today». When I then informed him of the attitude of his employee his reply was «Well, he’s had a stressful day (what — sitting in his lawn chair?)». The clincher was when I told him that his company had a disreputable reputation from the Marina where you fill-​up, and that the Marina folks told me this happens regularly, his reply was an aggressive «Well you go back there and tell them to go F@&! themselves». I warned him that he better not rent that boat to anyone else until he fixes that ignition key problem, and he promised he would fix it for the next customer. But I’m sure, due to the smoothness of that broken key nub, that it has been in this condition for a LONG TIME. BEWARE folks… These people are just in the business to make as much money on their substandard rentals without caring much about customer experience. Oh, and requesting an hour off the bill because of my inconvenience was out of the question… You are better off looking elsewhere.

Apparently this place is the only place that rents jet skis on the lake. For a monday at 3:30 they had no jetskis and no boats. Basically they had nothing available yet there were no signs and the people behind the desk were completely aloof and unhelpful. They don’t take reservations which sucks to begin with.
Their annoyed attitude towards us made us leave and go to another boating rental place down the road.
