After reading the other reviews for this place i decided to check it out. I ordered the chicken mole which a came with rice and beans. My wife got the pollo asado burrito and my son got the carne asada tacos. The chicken mole sauce was ok nothing special and the chicken was dry, bony and not very appetizing. Rice was old, hard and dry. Beans had a strange aftertaste. I tried my sons carne asada meat and they were very tough, hard, and dried out pieces(like jerky). Wife only ate half of her burrito and said the rest was inedible. Basically it felt like the food had been sitting around for a while, not very fresh at all. Place is a dive but I expected more based on the reviews. People were watching and staring at me from the Mexican barber shop next door as if I was an alien from another planet. I thought the food was going to be pretty epic based on the reviews but was very disappointed. Will not be returning.

Yummmm. The potato tacos are really good– nice and crispy with a tasty little salad. The breakfast burrito was also really tasty and the salsa is decent. Service is also decent

The first thing I noticed is how clean the kitchen is. The place is a hole in the wall but was in the area because had a tire issue at a place a building over. I ordered the mole which was awesome and not too many places have an authentic mole. The chips, beans and rice were all authentic. I spoke to the owner Rosie who was actually the manager at the Green Burrito on Ball and Valley View in Cypress before they closed. She is so warm and makes you feel at home as does the food. I noticed someone commented on the place being hot. Its not that hot but just order it to go its worth it! Anyway will come back as I have a very sensitive stomach but felt great after!

Nice find. I was looking for menudo and read a few good reviews so I decided to give it a try and I’m so glad I did. The menudo was excellent. We also ordered posole, carnitas burrito, and the kids got bean and cheese burritos. At the end of the meal not a single bite was left. My favorite was the carnitas burrito, the meat was tender and flavorful.

I’ve driven past this place a million times. For a Mexican food establishment to survive in this local area for as long as it has, it must be good. I am on a ignoble quest to find the best Mexican food spots in THIS local area. I ordered 7 carne asada tacos to go the first time I came here and they were excellent however the asada had quite a bit of non edible fatty parts in it. My next trip(today) I ordered a wet asada burrito, half red sauce and half green sauce and it was absolutely delish. Give it a shot! I can’t wait to try more authentic dishes.

This morning I decided to take my beautiful wife out for breakfast. Instead of picking a particular place, we decided to do a mini«adventure» and just drive around until we found something that looked interesting. There, located in a very small«strip mall» — alongside other Mexican businesses, we saw Tacos Chava. Entering almost gave me culture shock(my wife and I are«white») because it was almost as if we had walked into Mexico. At this point, I knew it was going to be muy bueno! My wife ordered«cactus» and egg dish(forgot what they called it) — and I got a breakfast burrito. The sister of the owner brought the food out and was very friendly. She and my wife(who speaks a little Spanish) had a nice conversation. The breakfast burrito was amazing — very high quality and generous in size. The red salsa was muy picante. Very nice! All-in-all, our«little adventure» turned into an amazing breakfast at a place we probably would not have normally found. Sometimes it pays to be adventurous and spontaneous. FIVESTARS!

getting tires changed next door. found this place thru Unilocal.despite the low number of reviews I decided to try this place. they are very generous on the quite flavorful meat proportions! this is the only Mexican place I will come to when I roll to Hawaiian gardens! highly recommended. PS. this place is so authentic, nobody here speaks English. be prepared for the best shit ever.

LOVE this place. but everytime i go, i order the same thing and it tastes different all the time. very inconsistent but cheap and good. a meal(5 tacos and a drink w/unlimited refill) for $ 6 or 7? thats pretty good. recommended for someone who wants authentic mexican food!

I have passed this small unassuming hole in the wall many times on my way to my auto mechanic. My mechanic recommended I give it a try. I frequent Tacos Chavas as much as Tacos San Pedro, which is about 4 times a month. They are less than ½ mile from each other. I’ve had some delicious home style Mexican dishes cooked by the owner of the restaurant. They do have your common tacos, burritos, taquitos, but when was the last time you had pork chile verde with cactus, rice and beans, nachos and a drink for $ 7.00 while watching soccer on a 60 inch flat screen, while the owner socialized with his customers. They do have a 5 taco special, nachos and a drink for $ 5.50. It’s a very good deal. 5 tacos weigh in at a little more then a pound of meats and veggies. The ambiance is not the best, but the food is freshly cooked and so satisfying. Their customers are mostly Spanish speaking, but they do have several of the staff that speak and understand English. Try it you’ll like it!

First off it is hooooooot in there! Definitely no ac in this place and the kitchen is in the dining room. So be forewarned i would def get it to go if you are sensitive to 90 degree heat. We came in and its definitely an authentic mexican food place no one really speaks english and they have telemundo on. which i dont mind at all just means my food is gonna be good. They seem to make alot of things fresh i know for a fact the horchata is home made but not so positive about the tortillas but if they arent then show me where to buy them cause they were very good. I got a chicken torta and a diet coke and im pretty sure they got the roll it was on from the bakery in the same complex it was very fresh a lil too spongy and soft for a torta though it got too soggy for me. The chicken was good a lil bland but very juicy one weird thing was they put mustard on my torta so i def will be asking them not to next time. It was overall a very yummy torta… i dumped the green salsa all over it which was a good salsa a lil bitter but def not a bad green salsa. The red salsa was ahhhhhhhmazing though… it came on our nachos they gave us when we sat down which was some home made tortilla chips covered in beans cheese and their yummy red salsa. The man got the five tacos and a soda for 5 dollars deal… which is a awesome deal cause the tacos are a decent size. He got the carne asada which was perfect with the red salsa and was good quality meat not too much gristle or fat. They also give you jalepeno and carrots which were awesome not too sweet and not too hot. Over all we paid 11 dollars for a awesome meal and i got to eat the other hald of my torta for dinner. Definitely a good deal and some awesome food we will be back.

Authentic Menudo I was craving for some hearty home cooked meal when i happened to walk by this tiny strip mall with a small grocery store, hair salon, and this hole in the wall Mexican restaurant one morning. I thought what a serendipity, any restaurant that caters to local Mexican clients would have Menudo — at least on weekend mornings. Added benefit — I would get cured of the nasty hangover ! It was too early in the morning and the chairs were still on top of tables and dining room was not ready for business yet. But there were 3 cholos wolfing down menudo with tortillas, at the counter. The owner was busy heating up tortillas with lard and her husband was setting up the stuff behind the counter. I took couple of chairs off a table and made a place for me to sit. Menudo in a big pot piping hot. A ladle full of the stuff and one piece of leg bone with lots of meat on it was served with tortilla, jalapenos, cilantro and limes. Just wonderful with lots of tripe and intestine. I enjoyed the food thoroughly, did not leave a drop. I think I got my months quota of cholesterol that morning. It was a true home made Mexican comfort food. I will try the tacos later. If you happen to swing by Hawaiian garden, drop by at this hole-in-the-wall restaurant for authentic Mexican home cooking. It is located near Hawaiian garden civic center on Norwalk Blvd. just south of the new bingo parlor which used to be Home Base store((remember the regional building supply store before Home Depot wiped them out ?).
