Viewpoint at Bixby Crossing Apartments

From the outside, this apartment building looks pretty promising. Good location with great access to downtown Haverhill and the commuter rail, nice lobby, and a 24hr access fitness room for tenants to use.
One benefit was that I was able to access the complimentary lobby wi-​fi from my unit, meaning I didn’t have to buy internet access of my own! There is also ample parking in the garage.
However, the management company in charge of the Viewpoint leaves a LOT to be desired. There is no personal touch and no understanding for their tenants — policy is policy and that’s the end of it. The maintenance of the building is half-​assed at best — when I left, the elevators had an inspection that expired over 9 months prior. Even AFTER one of the elevators had a fire!!!
The Viewpoint is a converted mill building, and the heating/​cooling system is an old industrial, one-​vent system. This means that there is no air conditioning until they shut off the heat, which this year didn’t occur until mid-​June — after we had SEVERAL 90+ degree days. Given how large the windows are, and the afternoon sunlight that came in to our apartment, it was absolutely insufferable. When the AC did turn on, we quickly realized that while it cooled effectively, it did NOT remove any humidity. Everything in our apartment felt constantly damp. The thermostat also does not have actual temperature control. It has a dial, but it basically just blows hot/​cold air until a certain point, then shuts off. I always felt too hot or too cold.
The entry doors have NO soundproofing, so if there is any activity in the hallways, you’ll hear every word.
The hallways there always smelled really gross, which was «covered up» by industrial air fresheners, leaving it smelling even worse. Those air fresheners also buzzed constantly when they needed to be replaced, which would sometimes take days for someone to do.
The trash chutes were ALWAYS overflowing — this is more resident laziness than anything, but it still made emptying the trash a pretty disgusting activity.
The laundry room is inconvenient as it is coin-​op with no change machine on site. The washers are old and always left my clothes smelling musty, and I always had to run the dryers at least 3 times to get my clothes dry. Many units have washer/​dryer hookups in them, but if you don’t have a machine, I’d suggest going off site to a laundromat.
Overall I would NOT recommend Viewpoint. The price is far too much for what you get, and there are much better options in downtown Haverhill. I am giving it 2 stars, and only because there were a few perks as I mentioned above.
