Soles of Haverhill

I really think these shoes are ugly, but it is «shoe city» and represents the culture– they were each made by different groups, so there’s a little story behind each one. Maybe I’m not as appreciative as a local, but overall I guess they just are here!

A few years back, my kids and I ventured into to Boston to tour the COWS — the decorated cows of Boston that was also a fundraiser. Well, Haverhill has their version of the cows called «The Soles of Haverhill». Each «sole» represents some form of history or daily life of Haverhill. We drove around and tried to see as many as we could — some have already been sold — and it was a fun time. If you go to the website, you can print out a map and start your adventure. I put the address for the Chamber of Commerce because that is what was on the website and I guess as good a starting point as any. I think I like the one in front of the Pentucket Bank the most, probably because it was the first one I spotted!
