What a fantastic experience! Having made the leap to gluten free in the last two years, I have found it near impossible to find decent options outside the city. So, I turned to Unilocal and am so thrilled I found this amazing little spot! It’s like a beautiful gluten free oasis in the midst of a gluten-​laden desert. The gentleman who assisted us was so patient, informative, and personable! We selected a wonderful variety of pastries. I am so impressed with the professionalism and quality. I will definitely be using By The Way for my wedding! Highly recommend to everyone, gluten free or otherwise!

My new favorite place! After recently being forced to go gluten and dairy free, a friend suggested I try BTW. The woman who helped me behind the counter couldn’t have been nicer. The cupcakes and muffins were absolutely delicious. I can’t wait to come back again!

Lovely little place with a variety of gluten free everything. I bought a small birthday cake and 6 cupcakes and they decorated the cake beautifully. Most importantly, the birthday girl and all who tasted the cake and the cupcakes swore it was not only the best gluten free cake but the best bakery cake they had ever had. Thanks By The Way!

Completely shocked at how rude the staff here was. After purchasing something, I asked if they had a restroom and she said they did not. I told her I didn’t know the area and asked if there might be somewhere nearby and she proceeded to almost laugh in saying that everything was closed (4pm on a Saturday) and that basically I was out of luck because she didn’t know of any restrooms nearby. She couldn’t even suggest a nearby gas station. Something about her tone was so upsetting and rude, I simply couldn’t believe it and left wishing I hadn’t spent a dime there. I don’t like leaving negative reviews on social media, but this one is warranted.

As a Celiac, finding amazing baked goods is just hard. I usually end up baking myself… but I don’t often have the time for that! Enter BTW. One of my coworkers told me about this place and from the moment I stepped into it… heaven. The cupcakes are melt in your mouth (carrot cake!!! My fave!) and the brownies – well, I have had my non gluten free friends tell me they were the best brownies they have ever had. The almond cookies are also little bites of heaven – chewy outside, but soft inside, with just the right amount of flavor. I could eat 10 in a sitting. Basically… everything tastes like I remember glutinous baked goods tasting (but better.)
The bakery itself is small, but welcoming and bright. Everyone I’ve met that works that has always been extremely friendly. Parking can be a little tricky-​but it’s totally worth it. I haven’t tried the cakes yet, but I can’t wait!

Love the lemony lemon cake, so good-​hard to believe it’s gluten and daily free.

MMMM! Really great cookies. Can’t go wrong with the chewy almond cookie or the zingy ginger snap, or the thin and chocolaty chocolate chip cookie. Love the all.

Our experience was woeful. Gluten and dairy free does not make for pleasant baked goods. AAMOF, the ones we purchased were both inedible and terribly overpriced.
The mini-​bundt cakes were gelatinous, mushy and industrial-​tasting. The rugalach were stale, expensive beyond belief, and not flavorful.
I suppose it’s lucky they’re across the street from a very good restaurant. And next door to a reasonable wine shop. This can only help.

wow. The almond cookie. the brownie. and the chocolate cupcake. This place was small, but damn did it have some good stuff.
The cake part of the cupcake was seriously great. Better then most places I have been to. It was heavy, but moist, and chocolatey. Icing was good, maybe the only thing I thought could have used a little work (maybe been a little sweeter).
The almond cookie tasted like an old fashion piniolli cookie minus the nuts. and it was thick and soft. SOOOO GOOD. Probably one of my favorite cookies ever. I want to order boxes of them.
I hear she is just starting to make cakes. Hopefully by the time my wedding rolls around they will be making them often!

Amazing gluten free baked goods. My favorites were the cupcakes! Very nice store owner who patiently explained what everything was. Only downside is that it is in Hastings which seems to have no place to enjoy the cupcakes by the water.

Very good chocolate chip cookies you can taste the butter. Someone is baking with love. I had a yellow cupcake with chocolate frosting. I love the cake its baked from scratch but the frosting could use more flavor. I will be back to try their granola.

So excited to find a gluten free/​dairy free bakery. Marina, the owner, is delightful. You can’t tell by taste that anything is missing. She must use really great ingredients.
The chocolate brownies are so good that my chocoholic mother sent me back for more. We also bought and loved: almond, ginger snap, choc chip, and macaroon cookies.
Did I mention the cupcakes? Amazing.
As I sit outside and writes this, there has been a steady stream of customers.

I can not be more thrilled to have discovered this bakery!!! I have a dairy and soy allergy and in the past did my own baking. As life and work got busy, I have had no time to bake and for parties and dinners I have been ordering excellent cakes from this bakery. They are affordable and no one has any idea that they are dairy free and soy free. Which means I actually get to enjoy dessert! My favorite is the coconut vanilla. This bakery also makes great cupcakes and cookies if you just want something little for yourself.

I have a dairy allergy and my Wife tries to be Paleo from time to time. We found out about them through a google search. These are, honest to god, the most delicious cupcakes I have ever had. No joke. The wife and I even had them make 200 cupcakes for our wedding. I ate 25 of them over 3 days following the wedding. Not an exaggeration. They are sooo good. The vanilla/​vanilla are my favorite, but the coconut cloud and carrot cake were also great. I’m amazed how delicious their stuff is, especially since they don’t use dairy or wheat. The staff and owner are very nice too.

I ate these delicious cookies, cakes and brownies for a few weeks, without any idea they were gluten-​free. Changed my entire impression of gluten-​free forever.
fyi, a friend undergoing chemotherapy found the ginger cookies really helpful.

I do not regret the sweets coma that their cookies put me in after visiting this bakery upon the insistence of good friends who swear by everything they make.
We were just done with an amazing brunch across the street (Juniper) and on our way to the movies, so of course wanted to have decent treats !
All of their baked goods are Gluten Free; now remember, this doesn’t mean they are fat-​free or sugar-​free or even healthy — just minus the traditional flour!
I got their chocolate chip, molasses-​ginger and the almond. Hands-​down, the almond cookie was the winner … an outrageous bite. Mind you, the others were delicious, but there is something about this cookie that is magical in the mouth!
My friends brought back their sour cherry coffee cake … RIDICULOUS. I mean, this is just baking at its finest.
Don’t miss stopping here — even if you are not hungry, too full, have a G.I. virus … you will thank me that you picked up some of their goodies to have for later !

We stopped in Hastings in later-​afternoon at the tail end of a day trip out of the city. We walked around the area popping in places based on Unilocal.I was surprised By the Way Bakery was one of the top-​rated places. Not one second after we walked in, the woman at the counter was addressing us in what felt like a «buy something or get out» way (this place was still open for an hour, we didn’t stop in at the very last second). Her «do you need help» did NOT come across as «do you need help». I also expected something this hyped to have… more? There were two cases – cupcakes, cookies, sweet loaves – standard fare.
That being said, we bought a few things and everything was delicious. I just felt like I was immediately put in a position to buy something by the woman’s tone and would have at least liked to poke around the [sparse] bakery before rushing into decisions. I don’t care how many blogs or local Westchester newspapers have hyped you – you’re not doing me a favor by being a bakery – I’m doing you a favor by patronizing your business.

Much better this time around! First time I went I wasn’t impressed; woman at counter was really nasty and cupcake tasted like cardboard. This time, I bought cupcakes for the kids and ended up eating one (oops!). Also bought some cookies and they were good too. Woman at counter today was much nicer than the last person. Would definitely go back. Happy to see a local business doing well!
