The food is awesome here! Went for breakfast and had the apple cinnamon croissant and a side of bacon. The croissant was absolutely delicious, perfectly buttery and flaky and the filling was just the right amount of sweet and soft but not gooey or soggy. The bacon was also cooked to perfection and delicious.

I stopped by to fuel up on the way to Vermont. Super friendly staff, great space, decent breakfast/lunch food. I had the chicken pesto panini and my bf had the omelette of the day(spinach and swiss). The omelette was pretty bland and boring but I liked my panini. There are plenty of other breakfast foods and pastries on the menu to satisfy various palates. I wanted to try some pastries but I was there around 2pm and they were pretty much sold out. A nice bonus is the free coffee with Unilocal check in!

Nice, quiet atmosphere to enjoy a cup of coffee and breakfast. Breakfast sandwiches are delicious and everything comes out warm and fresh. Great place for breakfast with friends — not usually a lot of children.

This place is like heaven for you carb-lovers and breakfast people. I was actually confused when I was driving to this place because the gps took me to the tavern across the street with similar name. So if you see the tavern, the café is across the street. I came in before church ended which I heard can be pretty packed afterwards. The café was super cute with tons of bakery goods ranging from croissants to muffins. I was having a hard time making up my mind so I ended up choosing an almond croissant and a cheese danish. OMG, the almond croissant was sooo good. The almond flakes were crunchy and the bread was fluffy-crunchy-soft good. The cheese danish was also delicious and I gulped that really quickly. If you check in, you get a free medium coffee! Coffee plus sweets, nothing beats that in the morning. Definitely come check out this place if you’re in the area!

I trekked over from Franklin Ave. this morning as The Place to Be Restaurant is now closed, but my morning hunger wasn’t! The atmosphere is very nice and reminds me of a Parisienne bakery! I did not try any of the baked goods, but probably should have. The omelette of the day was spinach and swiss for $ 8.75. It simply sounded better than it tasted. I was a bit dismayed that I could not make it into an egg white omelette — there are NOSUBSTITUTIONS! That is as crazy as it sounds; again, there were tons of other things I could have ordered, but stuck with it anyway. My omelette came out quick, but was a bit dry and extremely thin on ingredients. The bread was great, though, and they have these cool little aluminum canisters of fruit spread to put on top. Overall, it certainly was not the worst breakfast I have ever had, but when I think about the price I paid, the value just wasn’t there.

Crappy food and mean service. The blandest breakfast sandwiches ever that even sriracha can’t fix. Tons of old people and weird hanging decorative baskets. Made an offhand comment complimenting their new coffee mugs this morning and was greeted by silence and a stony glare. Jeez okay, I won’t be back. Trinity kids love it here for some reason. Bothersome parking situation. I could patch together a more delicious breakfast sandwich in my sleep with one arm tied behind my back.(Yep)

Good ambience, really good pastries, I ordered an omelette and it was good but nothing out of this world, coffee is good, and the staff is really friendly, I recommend this place if you are in Hartford. Good job guys!

First and Last has got the whole homey, comfort food thing down. It’s long been a staple of my family and friends. Every time I go here I see at least one person I know. Isn’t that just precious? The food here is good and I like the open, airy concept. The ceiling dons hanging baskets which really makes it memorable. The service is prompt and those baked goods are. to. die. for. Allow me to recommend the almond croissant. Muah! The New England style clam chowder is also a personal favorite, along with the breakfast scramble. A decent bang for your buck. The refillable coffee is also a bonus… especially if you’re a caffeine addict like me ;) If you’re looking for an informal sit-down brunch, look no further than First and Last!

One of my go to breakfast places in the Hartford area. It is very casual so you go up to the counter to order your food and proceed to find your own seating. This can be difficult depending on what time you go in so make sure you scope out seating while you are ordering your food! As far as the pastries goes I have never been disappointed, they are so fresh and absolutely delicious. My personal favorite is the almond croissant, it has the perfect amount of almond paste in it and a plethora of slivered almonds on top. As far as eggs go, the classic breakfast sandwiches are always a hit, I am also a huge fan of the morning scrambler. Their scramblers are definitely a hearty helping, which is perfect for brunch. They also have free refills on their coffee which is a huge plus. The only drawback that I have is that they can run out of pastries very quickly. I went at 11:30 on saturday and almost all of their pastries were gone.

Sunday brunch at First and Last bakery is delicious. Although they do not have a special brunch menu, their regular fare consist of hardy portions and fresh breads and patisseries. I was able to score the French and the Italian both serves with a red velvet muffin. Both portions with good sized and delicious. The eggs were in need of salt and pepper but not more than that. I gave my red velvet muffin to my friend as I am more for savory in the morning than sweet. He said it was amazing, both super moist and flavorful.

This place is a casual breakfast/bakery place. You order at the cashier, and if you’re eating in they will give you a number and you are served your food when it’s ready. You have to find your own table, which may be difficult depending on the time of day you go in. I went around 11:30am and had to «reserve» the other two chairs for my friends who were a bit late. I was thankful I did, because a group of ten came in and wanted to take my table with them! I ordered corned beef hash, and it was pretty amazing. It came with two over easy eggs(cooked to runny perfection), rye toast, home fries, and spicy ketchup. The corned beef hash was really good. I think they gave more home fries than hash, so a little too much potato on my plate. The toast, hash, ketchup and egg all melded together really well! I’m glad my friends and I decided to meet here. There was plenty of parking in the lot when we came in, the ambiance was nice, with large windows and a bajillion picnic baskets hanging from the ceiling. We needed the food to come out quickly, since we had a show to catch at the Bushnell, and the food did indeed come to us in a timely manner, considering that the place was quite busy. Coffee was decent and unlimited.

Came for the cheese danish muffin which we knew was delicious(having been here before). The guy at the counter was so friendly and outgoing he suggested a few other things, let us try some stuff and we left with 3 new items that are crazy good!!! Great food. Great ppl. Great experience.

Came here for a Saturday morning breakfast. Something about the idea of the place draws me, but it’s really just OK once I arrive. Service is fine, you order at the register and then they give you a number and bring your food to you. There was something holding up the breakfast line(how many cashiers does it take to check a family out? 3+) so the regular sandwich cashier agreed to take us even though that wasn’t his job. I was a little disappointed that you can’t modify omelets as I’m lactose intolerant. Instead I ordered a fruit salad, a croissant and a side of eggs. The eggs came with a cute little raisin bran muffin on the side. I ate that instead of the croissant. It was moist and yummy. The eggs were just ok. I was quite pleased with the fruit salad. My food came out in good time, but my partner had to wait quite a bit for his corned beef hash(also came with a cute muffin). He enjoyed his meal and it looked good. No complaints, but no high praise. Wouldn’t go out of my way unless I wanted the fresh baked goods.

Breakfast plates are nothing worth raving about. But the pastries, croissants, and the space in between are what makes First and Last Bakery worth visiting. Breakfast is served Monday through Friday, 7am-11 and on Saturday and Sunday, 8am-3pm. The sandwiches($ 5 – 7) are basically things you can make at home. The breakfast plates are not worth writing home about either. The muffins and pastries however, are awesome. For $ 2 – 3 you can snag a really good scone, danish, or croissant. The café specialties aren’t bad but are a bit pricey for $ 9. I’d opt for the panini grills if you’re looking for a tastier hot sandwich. The selection changes daily, but I’m a fan of their all-natural soups. The coffee selection lame(self-serve) for a bakery, and is also self-serve. Despite the average breakfast selection, they bake some really outstanding breads. Made fresh-daily, you can be sure to find yourself in bread heaven with their pumpernickel, multi-grain, rye, whole wheat, sourdough, and baguettes. I always admire the quirky décor though, love the baskets. When it’s nicer out, the outdoor area is perfect for hangin’ out.

Had a strong first impression. The croissants are flaky and buttery, while the danishes were jam-packed with jelly. Definitely need to come back to dine in for breakfast or have lunch.

Wow! So happy I found this place! I’ve been back for lunch and breakfast. Both times I had a wonderful experience. The bread is amazing. I even took a italian loaf to bring home. The deli meat is good quality and they don’t skimp on the sandwich meat. It gets very busy, but there are plenty of tables!

I had a lovely breakfast here! We were searching for a local place with homemade corned beef hash, and Unilocal kindly recommended First and Last Bakery Café. It’s a little out of the way for us, so we hadn’t stopped by in the past. Today we were already over the Hartford line to get some delicious coffee from Hartford Baking Co, so we decided to try First and Last’s breakfast. I was surprised at how large and airy the interior was– it had been hard to tell from Unilocal pictures if it would be small and cramped. I loved the décor– all of the baskets hanging, the cute kitschy décor along the walls, and the clean wooden tables. We both ordered the corned beef hash plates, which came with rye toast, two eggs, home fries, and a small muffin. I also had a cup of coffee, which was decent. The corned beef hash was great, and I enjoyed the ketchup they provided in small plastic containers, which had hot sauce or some other spice added to it. The eggs were perfectly cooked(we ordered over easy), and the home fries were tasty. I’ll wait to give this place five stars until I visit again, but I was very pleased at the quality of food. We took ours outside to the small patio area and enjoyed breakfast with some fresh air.
