Uptown Chicago Grill

Solid 3 stars because it’s not excellent but local and cute, I wish i could give half stars because it’s probably a 3.5. I don’t go out of my way to go here but I typically enjoy my food. They do some things well but other things sub-​par. The salads are big, but the pulled pork is dry. It’s not a good restaurant for vegans or vegetarians, but it’s friendly. It’s a mix of good and bad and it really depends on what you like to determine whether this place is for you.
I recommend this for locals but it you’re looking for something spectacular or interesting, try millworks, bacco, or HMAC.

Great little place. Very friendly staff. Nice dining room. The crowd of people at breakfast was good. Coffee was really good, as were the omelettes

This place use to be a nice restaurant to grab freshly made foods in a clean environment, not any more. Stopped in ⁷⁄₈ for a bowl of seafood bisque, to my surprise, the place is a health hazard. The grill hadn’t been cleaned in sometime, food drippings on every piece of equipment in the place and the décor had not been kept up. Lastly, the seafood bisque was a spice bowl of cream with no seafood. This place has definitely lost my business. Never again!!!

A very solid Saturday brunch spot with friendly service. Gotta try the veggie eggs benedict!

Dinner menu is varied, food is tasty and service is affable and efficient. Very friendly atmosphere. Owner/​chef on the premises. Good for lunch, too.

Mehhh… Ordered the salmon in lobster bisque and grilled veggies for lunch. The salmon wasn’t fully cooked through and the lobster bisque tasted as if it was cooked a week earlier and just reheated for my order. If you like McDonald’s then this place is a step up. I’ve eaten in restaurants all over the world and this place is at the bottom of the heap. There are better similar restaurants in the area.

Had the bacon cheeseburger, fries, ice tea.
Burger was very good, fries were fine (nothing special), ice tea had a weird taste. It was fresh brewed so it might have been the bags. Place itself needs to be «maintained». Walls are dinged up. All in all, I liked it. Service was fast, food was good. I will be back to try some other items.

Very nice, loved the breakfast! Very convenient to the location I live, the owners were very polite, and I love the way they greet there regulars! Makes the place more personal

We were looking for something different and after being told we couldn’t eat at Alvarado’s nearby because we didn’t have a reservation (what i have to leave and can’t eat? 1^st time that has ever happened to me-​she just said nope, bye?!?) we happened upon this place. It was not crowded at all on a Friday night, we were told to pick a seat. The specials and menu items looked tasty. There was one cook and one waitress which led me to wonder what happens when they do get busy. It was very cozy and intimate, there were family’s w/​kids there too, but it was perfect for my husband and I’s date night. I had the seafood bisque and the special which was eggplant parm. Everything was so yummy, my favorite was their garlicy house dressing. My husband enjoyed his mozz triangles and ribs/​chicken which I had a bite of the chicken and it was so juicy. The prices were awesome, we got the check and didn’t have sticker shock like so many other places *ahem Firehouse. So when my husband asks for next date night, I will pick this place for more bisque and to see what good specials they have. Def will keep this place in our back pocket.

I had the Rancheros Omelette — rancheros sauce was not oily, as I feared, but was a nice tomato base. Eggs were done perfectly. Had grits on the side, hard to mess up grits.
My cousin got pancakes — loved them. Fluffy, golden, great flavor.
His wife had the simple egg plate with bacon — the bacon was a very good cut, meaty and good flavor.
$ 1 coffee!!!
I will return if I am ever in the area again.

This place is awesome. Good place for breakfast as well. They have a vegetarian item choices. It is also a nice place to take a hot date and not have to spend a load of money. BYOB. The folks who own and work there are very nice. They go above and beyond. Ask for their homemade hot sauce when you go.

I don’t know if this place is under new management or what, but I thought I’d give a try after reading some decent reviews.
It was filthy inside, the blinds are covered in dust and theres dead bugs all over the window sills. When we went we were the only people there and the tables had dirty dishes on them.
The sign said wait to be seated, and the girl behind the counter told us to sit wherever and to grab a menu from the stack.
The only people working seemed to be her and young guy working the grill, and they were loud and obnoxious, talking about getting drunk and having sex while my seven year old son and I sat there waiting for service.
When my burger came it was overcooked, and the zuchinni I had to send back because it was black. They did bring me more but by that time I was done with the burger.
I had to go up to the counter and ask for refills on my soda, and when we were done I also had to go up and ask for the check.
Very disappointing, I can see why no one was there.

Awesome for takeout! Everything comes hot and ready! Try the Chicago Fries, they’re amazing! The staff that works lunch is super nice!

I hadn’t been to the Uptown Chicago Grill for years and didn’t remember being all that impressed. But, after checking out reviews from other Unilocalers, I decided to give it a try for breakfast. I’m really glad I did. I had the Grilled Veggie Omelet which had an abundance of fresh veggies and great flavor. The veggies are served on top of the omelet, not inside. The servings are large and the prices are very reasonable. The staff was super friendly – seems like it’s probably run by a family. Great neighborhood spot. Don’t know how it is for lunch and dinner, but definitely worth checking out for breakfast.

We were on a trip to DE, and found this place thanks to Unilocal.We stopped in for the breakfast, and I got the «fan favorite» Grilled Veggie Omelette. I am a fan too. When you walk in, you can see the grill, and there they are, fresh cut veggies! So if, like me, you don’t see why breakfast HAS to mean meat (I do like bacon, but, everytime?) this is the plate for you. Also, fantastic potatoes.
My only caveat is the speed of the service. We guessed that the boy and young lady were the kids of the owners, and while it is nice to see a family operation, it is also nice to have perhaps more professional /​attentive service. But perhaps the somebody called in sick or something.
Hopefully, the next time through, it will be dinner time, I would love to sample the reasonably priced ribs.

A friend and I meet once a month for lunch. We have our regular places to which we return often. .. but as we drove by this location we agreed to turn the car around and try something different.
My friend had a salad with chicken — nothing too sexy but he said it was good.
I went for broke and opted for the rib lunch special with the red potato salad. (I really wanted to try the baked squash side dish but they were out.) The ribs were really good and they were a great price for what was served.
Service was good and fast.
I will definitely be back. :)

Went to Lunch here with a buddy from work. He ordered a steak salad that he said he wouldn’t ever get it again. The steak was tough and the ranch dressing tasted funny. I had a chicken sandwich with grilled veggies…“Awesome”! They put some kind of chipolte sauce on it that was really good. I also got 10 wings to go and ate them back at work. The wings were pretty good. I think they were baked, they were also pretty big and the sauce on them was excellent. The service was kind of slow, maybe because we went after lunch time rush around 1p.m. but not sure. All in all decent food and service for an affordable price.
I am definitely getting the wings again next time though.

Went here with a few friends for brunch on Saturday. Cozy atmosphere and excellent service. My girlfriend and friend ordered the open-​faced turkey sandwich, which I heard was delightful. My girlfriend was on the fence about a certain side, so the server offered to provide two options — for the normal price — to see if she preferred one over the other.
I ordered a casual breakfast fare — mushroom & swiss omelet with spinach with a side of sausage and potatoes — and came away highly pleased. The sausage was homemade and the potatoes were crispy just the way I like them. The omelet also was very good. I liked the preparation of the egg, which was simple. The mushrooms and spinach leaves weren’t cooked into the dish, but rather placed on top.
On a side note, apparently they have just begun offering french fries. A table next to us ordered some for their dish and the cook came out to see what the verdict was.
Love this place! A great Saturday morning eat!

Stopped here for breakfast on a whim. I didn’t even know they were open for breakfast. I have Banana’s Foster French Toast and it was very good. If they had Shrimp and Grits, I’d think I was back in NOLA.
We use to eat here when it was DaPits when we lived on Green Street and there BBQ was always very good. Have not been back since we moved in 2006 until now.
I will definitely be back.

I’ve only ever been here once in my life. It was ok. Nothing to write home about. But it’s conveniently located and not bad fare.
