Rice’s Electronic Repair

I had a VHS/​DVD recorder combo where the VHS stopped playing. I looked at reviews and found glowing ones about Rice Electronics. All others had negative reviews.
I called the shop and talked with Peggy, who did customer service. She told me the hours she would be there (by appointment) and told me that there was a long turn-​a-​round time because of the difficulty of finding parts. Manaufacturers prefer that you just buy a new unit.
My wife and I took the unit in. Peggy again informed us of the long wait and it was noted on the repair slip. It was not a surprise. After two months, I left a voice mail and promptly received an email reply that they were still searching for parts. After almost four months, Brian called and told me the unit was fixed.
He apologized, but noted that he had just gotten the part. As a retired Navy radioman, I break ‘em and take ‘em to the Electronics Technician. As Peggy is no longer available to do the customer service, Brian is down to doing customer service and repairs by himself.
Since I had to pay the balance on the repair, it is to his best interest to get as quick a turn-​a-​round as he can get. While I hope my equipment would never need repair, I will only take it to Rice’s Electronics. Yes, this is a glowing review. I was aware that the repair would not be immediate. I am not a relative — or even a friend — nor am I being given any consideration for this review.

I was able to pick up my stereo, after my last review. My stereo is still not repaired, and they were gracious enough to give me my nonrefundable deposit back.
I someone is thinking about getting stuff repaired there, be prepared for a very long wait. Also, the last I looked their hours are not accurate and there is generaloy no one there during their posted hours. Good luck.

Took a CD Player to this place to have fixed. After two plus months and only because I initiated the contact, I was told they were still searching for the part. Another month later I was told that the part was not available «anywhere» and that they searched online for 3 months, not true. I searched for the part number they listed on the invoice and I found the part number online and available for purchase from a reputable and well known company in 5 minutes… I don’t like being lied to and will not recommend this business to ANYONE.
