Amtrak Keystone Service

I had to check one star to write review because Amtrak didn’t even deserve ONE today!
I’m on a train from NYC, to Pittsburgh and it’s standing room only!!! They were sending ppl to the café to sit with their luggage! And every stop more ppl get on then get off! It’s a nightmare !!!
The porter says the train was over booked !! And passengers are to call the 800# to complain.
Lots of college kids and I feel bad for them standing with their bags looking lost. This can’t be safe being this crowded and the bathrooms are disgusting…
What the heck is Amtrak thinking !!!

I was in Harrisburg alone on business. I wanted to take in a baseball game, but the local team, the Harrisburg Senators, were on the road. But I found out that the nearby Lancaster Barnstormers were in town. I had the company van, but work has strict policies about taking it to entertainment events, particularly if it’s in another town.
Enter Amtrak’s Keystone Service. Amtrak operates several trains a day on this route between Harrisburg and Philadelphia. They are unreserved too, so all you have to do is buy your ticket and go. I walked to the station from my hotel and took the 5:35pm train to Lancaster, which got me there in plenty of time for the game. I was able to walk to the station.
Coming back, I took a cab from the ballpark to the station, being that I am female and I was by myself. Unfortunately, I had to leave the game at 9pm, after 2 hours, in order to make the 9:25pm train. Otherwise I would have waited until past midnight.
But the Keystone Service is a good corridor to take. There are several trains a day in either direction. Although they don’t have food service, the trains are clean and on-​time. I wish they could extend the service west to Pittsburgh. As it is, there’s only one train a day to Pittsburgh and when I’m on business, I generally can’t use it (It’s often late because a connecting train from Chicago is often late). Part of the problem is that Amtrak owns the line east of Harrisburg and Norfolk Southern owns it west thereof. And NS schedules a lot of frieght trains on that line.
