The Skating Edge Ice Arena

Extremely rude customer service from man at front counter (John I believe), I took the time to go in and check the rink out and the guy couldn’t answer my question and just dismissed me to get my information online. I guess whomever he was talking to at the counter was more important. Then we called and we were greeted with the same unpleasantness.

I can’t help but like this place. Two of my kids play hockey here. It is home the Bay Harbor Red Wings club team. The facility is showing it’s age, but the rink and ice are in good shape. Ice is hard to come by in Southern California. It is nice to have a rink in the South Bay.

I just moved into the area and tried this rink out! Fell in love with the old construction and great traditional vibe of a ice rink. I play hockey there during stick times and the ice is always so soft and fresh not beat up at all. Other hockey players are always welcoming and nice. Love playing hockey here and will be getting into a adult league soon !!

So the quality of the ice used to be better — but is really poor compared to the past. Hills and valleys. Don’t know why, it seems to be the same staff but something has changed. Ice for hockey is really slow and it’s too high near the boards.
Most of the old time staff is good — they’ll take care of you.
There is a snack bar but it seems always under construction. Don’t know if it’s ever actually open or if you have to go to the office to find someone to help you.
Bathrooms are okay (a little industrial) but they seem to have issues with paper towels — never seem to have any. Locker rooms are basic, old school.

Really nice and spacious rink. Not typically over crowded and reasonably priced.
The cashier isnt very informative but not rude. Also, very swift with checking in.
If you are renting skated they are in fat condition and quite comfortable.

This place is a piece of nostalgia for me personally. I grew up playing hockey here on the B.H. Red Wings and have countless memories.
I came back here and was very happy to see multiple improvements and upgrades to the facility… All while maintaining the cherished atmosphere that I remember. The board were improved greatly and the locker rooms weren’t…which was the right choice in my book.
I was a little disappointed to see that the pro-​shop was pretty sparse as far as inventory (ESPECIALLY BAY HARBOR RED WINGS GEAR!) I wanted to buy a jersey for memory sake but there was nothing available in ANY size. :-/​
All in all, I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THIS PLACE. The owners are great people so support your local family owned businesses!

Run down little rink near Torrance. Play hockey here. Until recently you couldn’t really see the lines (they repainted though). Don’t know that I’d come here for a free skate, but it’s fine for beer league hockey.
There’s a little restaurant thing attached. Never been in.
Locker rooms are tiny and only sorta/don’t really have showers.

This is our local skating rink and only one on the hill. Rink size is not regulation size for hockey but works for public skating with the kids. Skating lessons on weekends are great offering various levels from beginner, Pre-​Alpha, Alpha, Beta, etc. and works well with kids. Rink is adjacent to Ruby’s diner which has seating to view the skaters. Very nice staff!

Bee coming here for years. I come here every Friday to skate. Its old and dinky but it serves its purpose. Love yhe staff here. Imalways trated amicably.

Old, original SoCal rink. Nothing super fancy. Small concession stand, even smaller pro shop. Parking is small and tight.
However, the stands and seating are quite good. The roof is wood, meant for ice, not a converted warehouse or grocery store. You walk in and you know you’re in a rink of the old school variety. Locker rooms are small, but with showers. A lot of rinks don’t have that. The lockers rooms go right to the benches. Some rinks (Lakewood, Oxnard) you have to hoof it to the bench.
This rink is quaint, charming, and good enough for its intended purpose.

I called today to ask about lessons for my daughter, and it was the most unprofessional phone conversation I’ve ever had. I thought I mistakenly called a fraternity. The employee answered the phone with, «Hey.» After that, he finished a conversation with who I’m assuming was a coworker and then there was silence. He forgot I was on speaker phone, perhaps? I said, «Hello?» and he told me he couldn’t give me any information about lessons because the woman who handles it is out sick. I said, «Is there a schedule or anything? Can you maybe just tell me when the next session begins?» He told me to look at the website, but the info isn’t there either. Maybe I’ll just keep driving up to PV; it’s farther, but at least they’re helpful.

wow surprised this is still there and looks great I used to go when It was called Oylimpic Ice Arena and then was a very cold rink and had a fire pit right in the middle of it, I broke my jaw and almost lost fingers and some blood there great games and memories. ^_^-d

Dear management: Is your website a joke? I live pretty much on top of your rink, but I won’t play hockey there because of the website. Not only does the site look like something shat out by the year 1994, but the information therein is generally completely wrong. Please get a real website.

The rink looks slightly run down, but I think that’s just because the building is a little old. Otherwise the ice quality is just fine. But if you’re looking for a nice relaxing public session, I’d steer clear of this place on weekdays. Figure skaters run rampant during the much-​cheaper public sessions and despite the sign everyone is always running their program so you’re constantly dodging them as well.
But if you’re a figure skater looking for a place to practice, Skating Edge is one of few rinks not completely devoted to hockey, which means the ice isn’t scarred with ruts. Plus you won’t be put on the back burner just because you have toepicks.

The best place to go on a hot day. This place has been here at least 43 years. And it was not new then. The only thing that has changed is the name.
But if you like to ice skate the ice is great. Good place to take a girl on a first date. Take the kids, because they will sleep good that night.

I usually come here once a week for my boyfriend’s hockey games. The place is a bit dumpy… the girl’s bathroom is disgusting and the locker rooms are a bit foul; however, it’s dumpyness is part of the charm. It has an okay thai restaurant (with the unfortunate name of Tantalice) where you can watch the action where it’s warm. The snack bars guys are also really sweet and often give me free hot chocolates. It also has free wifi so you can work while you watch.

I’ve been playing hockey here for many years. as far as I’m concerned any ice rink is a good one. They have public skating, figure, hockey, classes, stick time, youth hockey, and the Thai place next door has pretty good food also. The recently remodeled the place, but you almost cant tell. the ice is better, new boards, but the locker rooms are still kind of old and cramped. But in the end i go here to play hockey and don’t hang out in the locker rooms, so I’m ok with it. They did add showers, and penalty boxes when they remodeled. In house hockey leagues are run well, and they have a pro shop that’s run by an X King, Vic. Prices for a hockey season are really good and for me its a bonus because i live 2 minutes away.

One of the best rinks in town. Great public skates, good hockey league, nice ice, and lots of room to skate. Plus they sharpen skates the best I have found. Go see Vic.

Our daughter tried ice skating for the first time at the rink in PV and liked it. But this place is closer so we came in to get info on prices and hours.
Patrons were there with their kids so this place was obviously open and there was one employee on the zamboni but no other employees were to be found any where.
The store, the front counter, the food counter and the skate rental counter totally unattended. We asked one of the parents there where were the employees’ and she said to wait, that someone would eventually show up. Waited about 10 mins but nothing. We ended up getting the info we wanted from a sign posted on the front door and left.
I’ll give it two stars only because there were plenty of people there waiting for the zamboni to finish so this place must be doing something right.
But the service sucks!

This place has been here forever! The outside is a little shabby, but the ice and the rink itself is very nice. They Zamboni it up until its real smooth which is important when you suck at ice skating and any little imperfection in the ice makes you fall like a little girl. Actually, the little 4 year old girls who skate here never fall and do flips and jumping spins over you after YOU have fallen… but everyone has fun and you dont feel too much out of place.
