Kaiser Permanente South Bay Medical Center

Debbie E. Diaz RT at the Normandie North Medical Offices provided less than professional services to me during an imaging appointment. I would urge all imaging specialists to utilize the utmost care and sensitivity in exhibiting a good bedside manner as their interaction with the patient in such a private setting is devastating to the patient should you choose to treat them badly. If I were to be given this technician again, I would reschedule. I did not find her to be a skilled technician. She could not work the machine efficiently and in an effort to compensate, blamed me, the patient by directing her anger at me when in reality, she was merely frustrated with herself. A lack of maturity and a very large inflated ego, have no place in healthcare. You are licensed and privileged to work in the industry. Respect that right and respect or your patients.

I am beyond happy. My entire labor and delivery experience was the best, everyone was very attentive and and caring not only for me and my baby but my family as well. No regret selecting this hospital

I have been a member for many years at Kaiser. They have their ups and down and I am not a fan of the Urgent Care at all. Had some bad experiences with 3 doctors there. The doctors that I go with are really good and treat you well. I had to make a visit to the Emergency Room. Every single nurse that treated me, my doctor, the tech. for the Cat Scan and even the one who took my blood. They all treated me so well and I was facing a lot of fear. The doctor went all out to find the problem without hesitation. That was the first time I felt that comfortable there. The new remodeled ER looks so nice and I love that fact that they have private rooms with slider doors for privacy. But for the Urgent Care… They need to work on better care and not sloppy doctor and the ones who do the front desk need to work on more compassion for the patients when they come in bu far as the nurses. They are pretty good.

I went to the emergency room and I feel like it would’ve been faster if I would’ve made an appointment.
Once I got inside I could see why it took so long. It was like my home away from home. The staff was extremely friendly the doctor came in right away and my nurse not only beautiful but she wore many hats. She took my urine, blood, and assisted with my exam.

I went to southbay kaiser on vermont but i was supposed to go to the one on normandie. My day was already going bad bec im pregnant and my driver never showed so i had to pray i would get there safe on my own. I knew i was going to be late but i didnt know how to connect to the main office. I hate the appointment center sometimes. I made it to the hospital but found out from the physician in the elevator i had the wrong building. I was already having anxiety from being 10 min late. I went to the next building And i was still wrong… This place is huge. Fortunately the receptionist called the office to see if i could still be accepted, wonderful news, the lady said its ok as long as im willing to wait if another pt came on time. I was basically an hour late but they accepted me. The receptionist at the normandie building was really nice too, very considerate. Thank God! Good people. I didnt wait long for them to see me either and my babys heart is doing fine. Wonderful news all round.
Ps. Yes i know the father is supposed to drive me but i thought i could rely on someone else to drive me this time since i didnt want him to call in or lose a day. (Strict job)

This facility has gone down hill, despite all the remodeling. I’ve literally been a patient here since birth along with all my family. I wish I could switch insurances now because this place is a joke. They take 4+ days to respond to emails if they respond at all. Trying to get thru to your actual doctor to speak with them is unheard of. They ignore RX refill request and all pharmacies are ridiculous, never gave anything ready or correct. Long wait times no matter what department you go to now. But the absolute worst department is Hospice/​Palliative care, better hope yourself or any loved ones don’t have to be tended to by them. My loved one is now in a nursing home thanks to Kaisers hospice department neglect and they are now being well cared for finally. That’s pretty sad when a nursing home takes better care of a patient than a huge corporation like Kaiser. This department should be investigated for elderly neglect and the department needs new supervision, nurses and doctors. I myself now go to Downey facility for my care even tho I live 5 mins from harbor city Kaiser, it’s just so terrible, I rather drive further than be treated so poorly. It’s really too bad after all the nice renovations Kaiser South Bay can’t go back to the way they use to do patient care.

So the last two times I showed up to this place everyone was very irritated at me and just gave me dirty looks. I was litteraly nothing but courteous, friendly and as helpful as possible. But, they still didn’t care. They were all overly aggressive while I was just being as nice and polite as possible. Seriously what the hell? Did I not say thank you to them in a tone they would have appreciated? Should I bow and kneel before them? Really, is it necessary for them to all give me dirty looks and be immensely rude to me? I mean come on.

I pay $ 1600 a month for this horrible medical care and they dont care whether I live or die… I just spent 4 hours there getting tests run because I have doubling over pain in my side and the doctor Michael Gottus wouldnt even prescribe antibiotics… I had this one other time 3 years ago and they said it was Diverticulitis and they prescribed antibiotics and I was fine… Now they won’t prescribe me anything and sent me home in excruciating pain… I called member services to complain and they said someone would call me tomorrow or the next day… Bravo…A complete f-over…UPDATE: The next day I went back and got my anti biotics and I ran a temp of 101 for the first two days… I HAD A RAGING INFECTION that was never fully diagnosed… Scary…The doctor the next day spent 30 minutes explaining why the doctor the previous day was right (CYA)…Now I wonder why they never found my infection… I feel great now but I am cautiously aware that Kaiser may be in a decline… It used to be 5 stars all the way… Update… on 5÷30÷16 Still in intestinal distress… Went to emergency… They spent so much time assuming it was C Diff… They gave me antibiotocs and I left… in pain again… They called 6÷2÷16 to inform me my tests were negative for C Diff and could I throw the antibiotics away… Really? I asked what it was… They had no answer and they again acted dissinterested… I’m going to sue the living daylights outta them if I’m dying of Cancer or something… I had diarrhea for 5 days… Ive lost 15 pounds and they didn’t give me IV fluids or a urine analysis… This hospital hates me I think…

They did not respect my time at all, I am a very busy person and rescheduled me twice with the wrong doctor. Horrible service with Doctors especially those woth attitude like Dr. Jackson in orthopedics. He completely doesnt care for what i had to say abour my injury and i write with my left and use my left arm a lot. That is also whete my injury is.
The Receptionists have scheduled me with the wrong doctor and called the the hour before my appountment. Kaiser is not respectful of my time at all
Specifically the doctors have no idea what they are doing as they have been trying to figure out what is wrong with my shoulder for 5 years and still believe I am lying to them. Also, some Doctors will give you attitude and even though you tell them that you have already done many recommendations that other doctors have given you, they tell you to go back even though you know it doesn’t work.

I don’t understand why kaiser would deny my grandma oxygen. She’s 76 years old and a COPD patient. She’s calling in a panic saying her oxygen is running out and we need to bring her some oxygen. I didn’t understand because she’s at a hospital, what are they going to do let her run out of oxygen and die.
This shit is crazy. So now I hit to stop drop and roll because kaiser don’t want to give my grandmother oxygen to go. Plus they say my auntie has 72 hours to live, that they can’t help her so just let her die. Smh this piece of shit place sucks.

My grandmother had an appointment to see a specialist in the Parkview building of this facility. She is a spanish only speaking senior citizen so I regularly accompany her to her doctor visits. Her comfort and well being is my priority so going with her to her doctor visits is very important to me.
We arrived at around 8:30 am and were lucky to find parking. It wasn’t my first time there so I knew that parking would be a nightmare. We walked into the Parkview building and I checked her in using their check-​in kiosks located at the very entrance. They are easy to use and very convenient.
We waited no longer than 10 minutes when her name was called. After a couple of tests and questions from the medical assistant we were asked to sit in another waiting area to see the specialist. The specialist called us into one of his exam rooms and proceeded with more tests and questions.
My grandmother has a condition which is not detrimental to her health (thankfully) and can be fixed but only with a procedure that she doesn’t feel comfortable getting. I was there to translate so I made sure to ask every question or doubt that she had. The Dr. gave us a bit of a rundown but couldn’t really answer our questions in regards to the procedure that would have to be done because he doesn’t specialize in doing said procedure. No big deal my grandmother understood this.
After a couple of questions the Dr. began to appear irritated and downright annoyed. I don’t know if this stemmed by the questions being asked but I did see a change in his attitude and this bothered me immensely. She is a patient who is being told that she needs a procedure that scares her. If she has questions it’s your job to answer them no matter how unintelligent or annoying you may think they are. I hope my grandmother never has to deal with such unpleasant character again. I’ll make sure of this next time her primary healthcare provider refers her to see any kind of specialists.

Very Understaffed and probably getting exposed to multiple viruses in the ER as we speak!!! They should atheist hand out masks for the severe coughers. So sad. There are nice and informative staff telling us all that the wait will be 4 – 5 hours. Still, just sad.

I unfortantley have spent some time here the past few months. I had 5 ER visits and was admitted twice for about 9 days total. During this time I had a lot of mixed experiences
I was so happy that the ER has little rooms which allow some privacy. Most of the time I had pretty good care. I had a great nurse, Lauren or Laura (I can’t remember) who took care of me a few times. I really appreciated her as she was very supportive and attentive. The hospital was very crowded and I had to wait almost 12 hours to get a room when I was admitted. This was definitely frustrating.
The rooms I had when I was admitted were very nice. I was in the post partum area for complications in pregnancy. I liked how quiet it was. My biggest frustration was with lack of consistency in care. Each day I would have a new on call doctor come in and make a new decision for my treatment. Often times, one doctor would cancel or negate what the doctor before had decided. It made a difficult time even harder. Finally I had enough and thankfully was assigned to one high risk doctor who took over my care completely.
Most of the nurses I had when I was admitted were really great. Some went above and beyond and a few were just average. I had one terrible experience with a nurse. Looking back I wish I could remember her name or filed a complaint when I was in the hospital still. One of the medications I was on made me very jittery and I couldn’t sleep. When I told the nurse she said there was nothing she could do and left me crying in my room and did not come back in for several hours. This was a traumatic experience for me and I wish I would have handled it differently. It definitely taught me to be an advocate for myself though.
In terms of accommodations, food is pretty good for hospital food. All of the hospitality staff were so friendly and helpful. My room was kept pretty clean but I had to ask to have my bedding changed after 5 days and no one changing it.
I will be delivering my baby here in the summer and am hoping for a good experience.

Kaiser emergency dept. is not the kind of place that you want to be checking in on a reg. base but if you do this is the place to go being that urgent care was closed, this is the new location on PCH the old location was on normandie side, there is only 15 parking space near the emergency entrance so if there are no spaces then parking is available down a small hill about a 3 to 4 min. walk is way to long if you have an emergency, we got there around 12:50am check in with security and check in nurse that was so courtesy and helpful at 1:01am now to the crowed and below 40 degrees, people were actually and getting blankets, 2:00am our names were called and led into a pretty clean exam. room, overall from the moment we walk in and left at 6:45am we had excellent service from M.D. Linda Chang Park, and nurse Kevin they both were compassionate, reassuring that you were in good hands and all was going to be OK the only complain I have with Kaiser on the night is the restroom was very dirty.

I had a great experience at this hospital for my thyroid surgery!!! Who knew you could have a good experience at the hospital?
The staff was so incredibly warm and caring and the technology was on point! I had my own private tv as I waited for surgery. And they kept me nice and warm by blowing warm air up my gown.
I had a great time. Unlimited room service was a great amenity!

Don’t expect to wait 2 hours even if they say that when you get here. You will wait for 4+ hours. Run away from this location!!!
Some guy got chest pains and almost died while waiting. Paramedics had to come get him.

My friend is a cancer patient who has been receiving in-​patient care at Kaiser for about a week now. Over the past week, she has met some truly amazing doctors and nurses that deserve recognition.
Her nurse Megan has been taking excellent care of her, consistently checking up to make sure that she is not in pain. She is very sincere and you can tell she genuinely cares for her patients. Jordan and Christian have also been great. They bring her hope and laughter, which is very comforting during this difficult time. Lastly, she met with Dr. Pushkar Chand who was lovely.
Dr. Chand spent a good amount of time listening to her stories and addressing her needs, and had this great sense of optimism in her recovery. He was incredibly helpful and seemed to have a sincere passion for his job and helping others. Leaving the hospital today, I felt confident that my friend was in good hands with the Kaiser staff.

I went to the OBGYN offices in the Normandie North Building and was simply appalled and disgusted by the cleanliness and appearance of the exam room. This is a real pity for an establishment like KP. I think I’ll file a formal complaint. This is unacceptable

As far as Medical Centers go, for me at least, this Kaiser never disappoints. Hadn’t been to the «Vermont side», (i.e., Kaiser South), since I broke my pinky finger fishing a while back but they are still the same.
Fast, efficient service is the norm here. Employees are always willing to greet you with a smile and typically treat you with courtesy and respect.
Word (s) to the wise… The Pharmacies can be slow. Give yourself plenty of time to pick up your scripts and make it to your appointments if need be. And… The construction is back so parking in the lot (s) is a no go. You’ll need to use the structures at each end.

I’ve been a member of Kaiser for several years and when my insurance changed to Cigna, I was bummed that I had to choose a new hospital. However, when my insurance changed back, I jumped at the chance to go back to Kaiser. I am a Kaiser baby… I was born at Kaiser and all but one of my kids was also born at Kaiser. I was at this Kaiser when it was called Kaiser-​Harbor City. Now they call it Kaiser-​South Bay. They have really updated this facility. Everything is state of the art and they have completely remodeled everything but the hospital and certain sections of Normandie North. I believe that they will be getting to all of that as soon as they are done remodeling the main section outside of the ER. The only downside to the ER is the parking. It’s almost like no one moves from those spots.
They have a decent cafeteria if you happen to be with someone who is there for a long appointment, in labor and delivery, or in the ER. Even if the cafeteria is closed, they do have vending machines that are accessible 24 hours a day. The nurses and doctors are compassionate and I personally have never had an issue, except for several years ago, but they swiftly handled the problem. They have 3 outpatient pharmacies for you to choose from; one in the Normandie North building, the Coastline building, and the Parkview building. The Normandie North pharmacy is the only one that is open 24 hours a day.
The other thing that I like is
, which is an online system available for members. You are able to schedule and cancel appointments, email your doctor and read their responses, and see lab results.
There is even a pretty nice farmer’s market outside of the Parkview building every Wednesday. They have fruits and veggies, hot meals, and other vendors, including music. Get there early because of the parking, or park elsewhere in the Kaiser network and take the shuttle over. Their shuttle stops at every building along the campus.
