Oregon River Rentals

I cannot say enough good things about these people. DO NOT GO ANYWHERE ELSE BESIDES HERE FOR RAFT/​KAYAK RENTALS IN PORTLAND. I know I won’t :) Their customer service is absolutely amazing and everything rented from here worked perfectly. Not only that, but they aren’t nearly as pricey as other places renting rafts and kayaks. Everything necessary was included and ready for us to take when we got there. Truly a wonderful local business that I look forward to supporting (At least until I get my own kayak!).

Oregon River Rentals, Bryan and his wife were amazing to deal with. They were by far the cheapest around to rent from and their fleet was impressive. We rented an Aire Tomcat II for a three day trip down the Deschutes and had an excellent time. I called after making the reservation for a Friday to see if we could snatch it up on Thursday as to miss the traffic after we got out of work on Friday. Bryan said no problem and didn’t even charge me for the Thursday. If I ever, ever need to rent again, which I definitely will, I’ll be going back to Oregon River Rentals and Bryan for the excellent service and AIRE kayak. Thank you for your hospitality good sir. It’s nice to see someone that just wants to see people enjoy the water with such cheap rates for excellent boats.

My wife and I had a great experience with Oregon River Rentals. Kayaks were in great shape and we got everything we needed to get up and going quickly. Highly recommend these folks.

We saw kayaks in the Clackamas River a couple of months ago, and thought they looked like so much fun! I decided to surprise my boyfriend with a day on the river for Father’s Day. I did an internet search and Oregon River Rentals name came up. I read all the reviews and they were 100% fantastic! I went to the website and read and immediately the «chat» came up. I started bombarding Bryan with questions, which he answered quickly and completely. I was so impressed with his willingness, knowledge and enthusiasm that I was hooked! With his help, I rented the tandem Tomcat, which drew envious comments from many on the Lower Clackamas! It was a blast ~ and Bryan made it all happen! I join in the 100% thumbs up club for Oregon River Rentals!

My boyfriend and I rented 2 sawtooth kayaks from Brian. We had the most amazing time! Took them to sparks lake, loaded them with gear, and camped in an area only accessible by boat!
The kayaks were very easy to inflate and steer. Very comfortable too! They came with everything you would need (life jackets, pumps, patch kit, and invasive species permit).
Brian recommended these kayaks based on the type of kayaking we were doing and our plans. He was so accommodating and helpful. I emailed him several times with questions and he promptly responded to each one. Not to mention his prices are super reasonable.
Pickup and drop off was a breeze and I received my deposit back right away after drop off. I would definitely recommend anyone to oregon river rentals.

We rented some kayaks today from Bryan.
We started looking at rentals maybe 2 – 3 days ago through Google and Unilocal and since his rating was so high and we both value Unilocal feedback, we went with this outfit. We ended up with the SeaExplorer for lakes and rivers up to class 2, I think it said. The weight max for this kayak is 750 lbs. It’s pretty long and you could prob fit 3 people in here pretty easily.
You reserve with Paypal through the website. He runs the business from a house so you get the address once you book your rental. Voicemails were returned promptly.
Hours were flexible and worked within our schedule. (We kept the rentals maybe 12 – 13 hours?)
The website had great suggestions for all skill levels and both still and moving water routes.
The IKs came with everything you could need: seats, PFDs, helmets (if asked), paddles, pumps, skegs (If you want) and the yaks themselves. A few nice additions might be dry bags (my boyfriend had one) and electric pumps, or some kinda cup holder for those lazy floats. For a few bucks extra, even!
We went to a few of the websites suggestions and were really happy with the equipment. Though, by the second location, we were bemoaning the manual air pumps. Your arms will probably hurt when you’re done with the day. I think the site said they take about 10 min to inflate which is prob pretty accurate. I’d allow at least 5. And 10 – 15 if you’re tired.
Drop off was a snap, we just sent him a text when we were headed back to civilization. He unloaded most of the stuff (esp the heavy stuff which was a sight for sore arms) and asked important questions: did you feel safe? How did the gear perform? I thought it was really cool he took an interest in whether or not we felt safe and how the equipment worked for us. It’s really easy with an electronic-​based business to lose that finesse of gaining a repeat customer through sensitivity, listening and expertise in the field. He earned our business!

I would strongly recommend Oregon River Rentals to anyone looking to rent Kayaks or rafts in the Portland Area. I personally used them when we planned a last minute Kayaking day. We needed 8 tandum kayaks and the owner Bryan customized some of the equipment to meet our exact needs. They were also very quick to respond to any calls or emails I sent them and were flexible on the return time to meet my groups time. I looked all over and they had the best prices and great costumer service.

Brian runs a great business. Very responsive to any questions I had. He was also very knowledgeable about the models and made a recommendation when he saw that I was renting the wrong model for flatwater.
We rented 3 Sawtooth model IKs and took them up to Timothy Lake for the weekend. I will definitely go back to Brian whenever I go to the water and need a kayak. The Sawtooth was very responsive and made quick turns when needed.

Excellent! A friend an I were looking for kayaks and a certain outfitter in troutdale failed us… a quick search and couldn’t have been easier. Brian was helpful, communicative and had everything set up by the time we arrived. Easy pick up and drop off. Would use again if in the area, thanks brian!

This is the first time I’ve used an inflatable kayak and it couldn’t have been easier or more enjoyable. Bryan and his wife (sorry! I didn’t catch her name) were super helpful, and the rental process was very easy. We are planning our next trip as we speak! Rose K.

Oregon River Rentals — thank you for providing not only exceptional customer service, but a quality product with fair pricing. My spouse and I recently went on a trip where we wanted to kayak, however our small car was not fitted to transport a traditional kayak. I looked into renting an inflatable kayak, and contacted Oregon River Rentals.
When I spoke with Bryan, he gave me a slew of options and recommendations for what we may need for our trip. Payment was easily made, pick up was a breeze (for all your NE/​SE/​N Pdxers pick up isn’t that far — it’s worth the trip to save $ and support a local business), and all the equipment was there. We are not expert boaters, but the device we used for our trip was perfect, clean and no issues.
Drop off was just as smooth, we e-​mailed Brian when we were 2 hours out, and he was there, a quick check-​out process, and detailed that our deposit would be back in our account in the next 3 – 4 business days. Will be renting from again.

Excellent service and a great first kayaking trip in Oregon! Brian was extremely knowledgable and helpful – took the time to find out what our experience was (all flat water, since we moved here from Iowa), and talked through options of different boats we could use. Because of scheduling, he wasn’t going to be available to meet me the morning of our trip, but he was willing to meet me the night before so he could show me how the equipment worked, talk through put in and take out points while showing me the map, help me load it into my car (although it was super portable)…basically went above and beyond to make our experience a good one.
Our trip was wonderful, and we’re already talking about when we might do another one. When we go, we will definitely use ORR!

We had an awesome time using a tandem kayak from Oregon River Rentals. Bryan was very helpful and gave us directions to a beautiful place to kayak. We would definitely use Oregon River Rentals again. They are very friendly and affordable! The kayak they gave us was perfect for or needs.

Lisa H did all the reserving but I saw how helpful Brian was to her. She emailed him back and forth a few times and he was very efficient in answering all questions. He suggested a Class 1 – 2 river and it was perfect for us. We decided to kayak the Clackamas River from Barton to Carver.
We changed our time last minute and Brian still had everything set up for us to pick up at the new time. Everything was packed nicely and the house was really easy to find as well as the stuff to kayak with. It was very easy for two girls to manage.
i was able to inflate the kayak myself in under ten minutes. You do need two people though to close the clasp that holds the air in. I found that a tad difficult to do fast enough alone.
The kayak itself was really nice and perfect for the both of us. I’m glad we decided on the tandem kayak.
It was such a fun experience that I already booked a kayaking trip here where I live in San Diego. I highly recommend you doing this through them and leaving the city. It is breathtaking.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Me and Shanel S. went on our long-​awaited trip to Portland this past weekend, and this was DEFINITELY the highlight!
A few months prior to the rental date, I had already put the Tomcat Tandem deposit on my paypal account. Bryan called me a few days later to let me know he released the deposit so that I would not have the hold on my card for so long. Thanks, Bryan! Throughout the months, he was super quick to respond to my 1,000 e-​mails with full detailed answers to all of my questions.
Once the date came closer, Bryan was great to suggest some routes for us beginners new to white water. We told him we would come by at 8am to pick up the gear and head out to the Clackamas River! Come Saturday, we were exhausted and didn’t think we could make the trek out there quite so early. I called Bryan and he was very accommodating and understanding, stating that he wouldn’t be there at the time we were coming by (10am), but our gear and release form would be right by the house waiting for us. The drive was only 15 – 20 minutes from downtown Portland, and the house was incredibly easy to find! All the gear was there as promised, and all fit in the trunk of our rental car.
We drove to Barton Park where we were putting in, and Bryan had suggested a shuttle service to bring our car to the take out point (Carver). We called from the parking lot and spoke with Teresa who set everything up for us. We pumped the boat in about 10 minutes by hand and installed the seats. Everything was really easy. We carried the boat down to the river and began our journey!
Barton to Carver was the perfect run for beginners! It took us about two hours, and it was a good mix of fun rapids and easy flowing water. We had such an incredible time! We never felt overwhelmed by the rapids, but never were bored or felt like we could be doing something more exciting.
Once the day was over, we headed back to return the equipment to the house. Very easy, and the deposit was returned to my card the same day. In conclusion: Amazing service, great people, great equipment, great experience. I will definitely rent again when I am back in Portland!

My wife and I rented a couple of solo kayaks this weekend and had a great time.
I’d definitely recommend the Tomcat over the Montana. (We had one of each.) the Tomcat is far more maneuverable and tracks better with less effort.
The equipment was in good shape and easy to use. $ 80 total for the two days was a tiny price for such big fun.
We did some flat water at North Fork Reservoir to get a feel for the boats and hit the lower Clackamas the next day.
The service was friendly and they made pickup/​drop off really convenient.
We’ll be using ORR again.

I rented a couple of Tomcat Solos from Oregon River Rentals a few weekends ago. My brother and his girlfriend were in town so I took them out on the Clackamas river from McIver to Carver.
Neither one of them had much paddling experience. The river level was high. I expected some big water. As we charged into the first set of rapids called ‘minefield’ I looked back
over my shoulder.
My brother was engulfed in a wave. His girlfriend was right behind him, a look of terror on her face. But they both came through the waves unscathed, grinning from ear to ear.
After a couple of waves, their confidence started to grow. They realized they really could do this! They ran the river like pros.
After a while the river flattened out and we just let the river carry us downstream while we enjoyed the scenery — sparkling water over rocky riverbed, mossy boulders lining banks and cliffs, Mt. Hood in the background. It was magical.
They came home tired. But happy.
What a great trip. I can’t wait until my parents visit!
