Once upon a time there was a pie plate. It was purchased years ago from the Ayers Pottery booth at KC Ren Fest. This pie plate was special and really only saw action around the holidays — because let’s face it, pie crust is hard work.
Last Thanksgiving our hero the pie plate was in the oven happily holding a blackberry pie. Luckily, it was sitting on a cookie sheet because as soon as the pie was removed from the oven and placed in the car for transport, the pie plate broke into several wedge-​shapped pieces. The pie was tasty, we just ate around the broken parts.
This weekend while in Hannibal imagine my surprise when we spotted Ayers Pottery. We went in looking for a new pie plate and told the tale of the old one to the shopkeeper… who immediately offered to replace it. At no charge. Amazed by this level of customer service, we bought a second one as well.
Seriously, their products are beautifully handmade. While they may look similar, no 2 are exactly alike. And with this level of customer service, what’s not to love?

We were passing through Hannibal on vacation and stopped to enjoy the sites of this cute little town. I had seen the sign for the pottery shop and stepped inside to check out this local business. I ended up purchasing a pie plate and a bread baker. Each piece is signed and dated and the owners include a humorous brochure on the uses of the bread baker as well as some recipes for this small baking dish. My pieces were wrapped carefully so that they could make it home safe and sound. Highly recommend this business!
