Hana Maui Botanical Gardens

hmm. now I don’t know how much it cost (my business ppl booked it) but I heard it wasn’t cheap. what I got was the marine room, and it’s Hana so you have to forgive the critters, but it really is like staying at a abandoned guest house at your grandmas. the Marine room was… the most intensely fish themed room in the world I’m sure– fish on the walls, hanging from the ceiling, on the bed, on the closet and otters in the sink! it was cute! albeit dusty, the roof is tin and I could hear a rat running back and forth all night, and I swear he chewed his way into the house through the insulation at one point, lucky for me, rats don’t bother me so I went back to sleep, imagining he ate his way through the ceiling and was running free through the room. there were ample FAT geckos, the one critter that bothers me. and don’t read the guest book if you’re scared of crawly critters, everyone writes about a giant spider that lives in the bathroom named Henry.
there was a full size fridge and stove but no AC or heater and there’s a sign saying the solar is weak so don’t leave lights on, no hair dryers at all, don’t charge anything etc.
I touched a centipede when i went to turn on the light but luckily it was dead and just kinda… hanging there. the owners dog also tried to get in my door at midnight which scared me because I thought it was the giant rat panting ahha. the dog itself is kinda scruffy but cute and friendly.
it’s a cute kitschy place, whimsical but very in the elements. It’s a rainforest out there, so be prepared to sleep as if you were in a tent in the forest, exposed to Mosquitos, stinging things (something stung me in bed), geckos, rats, spiders everywhere. if you don’t like these things, Hana in General will be a little uncomfortable, and if you can’t stand these things, like if you’d die if you heard a rat or found a spider on your clothes, then cough up the dough for the resort/​spa.
there’s a car port and I hear the garden is nice though. but the check in was… sketchy. (no one was there so I just walked in the room… no locks no keys) and stayed there.

My husband, a friend and I stayed one night in the Marine room during our trip to Hana. We read some mixed reviews about the accommodations and were a bit apprehensive about what this place would be like. I’m happy to say that we were pleasantly surprised.
I think the negative reviews might come from having the wrong expectations. This is a funky cabin in a beautiful tropical forest setting. It is not fancy but it is well maintained and most importantly, clean. I think that if you come with the expectation that you are going to be staying in your friend’s uncle’s cabin out in the woods you will be happy with what you find and you will enjoy it.
The property is located down a quiet road and is about 10 minutes from Hana town. We would stay there again.
