Josh’s Bar & Grill

First visit here will not be our last. Great neighborhood bar with great food, very cold beer and friendly folks.

Josh’s Bar and Grill is just across the street from Buckroe Shopping Center. A great local hangout but this place is best known for its fantastic food. I don’t even know where to start, the Steak dinner usually will cover the entire front of your plate, its so big and delicious. You will be hard pressed to find anywhere in the area whose Nachos are as good as his. Great food and people!

Don’t expect some super fancy place but the food is awesome. Had the Reuben sandwich and it did not disappoint. My friend had the cheeseburger and said it was the best he ever had. When I went there was only one employee and about 15 patrons, but she held her own and was able to take our orders and fill our drinks when needed.

I am a unabashed lover of local Mom and Pop type of restaurants. It is not a guaranteed outcome, but, all in all, it is an expected one. I have zero expectations at any [Insert name of nationwide restaurant chain here] actually serving me anything close to what I expect.
I have exceptions to this rule. I am almost always pleased at places, that as part of their appear, go out of their way, to provide you a, for lack of a better term for it, over the top eating experience; Five Guys, comes to mind. I know that there are some that are better, but unavailable, locally.
So, I drive past the [insert name of nationwide restaurant chain here] store fronts, and haunt the local Mom and Pop’s.
I had never been to Josh’s. Hell, I did not even know it existed. I was invited to lunch there with a ham radio buddah of mine, for their Wednesday hot dog deal lunch. We went several times, and I had the dogs on both occasions, not fairing as well as I had hoped.
So, on our next trip, I changed up and ordered a ‘Josh’s Famous (cheese) hamburger’, and that was the trick.
I was served a mound of freshly cooked, hot, crinkle cut fries, that I had to dig through to get to the burger. It, too, was hot, and freshly cooked. .
I do not know if I have ever had the best burger in my life yet. This one comes close to it. I am told that Josh’s also serves a pretty good steak.
The end result is that this place has earned itself a spot onto my go-​to list. One of those end destinations that I will drive to, while driving past all of those [insert name of nationwide restaurant chain here] places, where the words freshly made, and hot, cannot be spoken in the same sentence. No red headed girls. Clowns. Or «King’s» here. Just friendly staff who learn to know your name.
Don’t let the interior throw you off. It has that son of a son of a son of a son look to it. Remnants of past owners show in the chipped and worn look to the place. Inside, with their large selection of beers, and daily specials on both draft and canned beers, along with their exceptional food, makes this a place to add to your own list.
If you see a group of grumpy old men, sitting around a table, jawing at each other, on any given Wednesday afternoon, stop by and say hello. We will save a seat for you.

My friend and I needed somewhere good but not expensive to get a bite to eat after hanging out all day at the beach and I «Yelped» and found this place. After persuading my friend that this might be worth it because of the reviews they didn’t disappoint. We are from the «North» plus African American and the town folks were welcoming and really open minded. I guess the color that is cared about the most was green lol…
But seriously the food was great and the service was even better and the prices blew my mind for the tastiness of the food. I recommend if your in Hampton, VA near the beach to stop there adults and order the Make up sex drink and whatever wake your little hearts desires. Plus you can play cot hole while you wait on your drinks and meal and finish up after your done eating.

This place is Awesome. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger well done and it. was sooo juicy and omg just melt in my mouth. My husband had the steak and he was in heaven, the steak comes out on a hot skillet. Because we both had cherry cokes they gave us a pitcher so we could refill ourselves. Awesome service.

Friendly waiter nice dim bar & grill. Began with a great mixed drink, then a fresh delicious salad, then I had the scallops (a hearty 8) with a second side. All amazing. Then friend had the steak (couldn’t finish so I had a little) it was one of the best steals I’ve had! I love this place. We left before the love band played but I think we will be making this place a regular. Love it– try it if you get the chance!
